Penalty Differentials

Update to rd15

100 penalties conceded in 14 games.
Only 37 penalties conceded in their own half (8 vs Cowboys rd1)
20 penalties conceded inside their own 20 ( 4 vs Cowboys rd1)
59 penalties conceded in the oppositions half
32 of these inside the oppositions 25 metres
32% of all Roosters penalties conceded are inside the oppositions 25m.
15 penalties conceded inside our own 10m defending our line. That averages to 1 per game.
4 penalties in possession
For the record only 2 of the 7 penalties we gave away let night were in our own half. Guerra 26m out for holding down. Evans 5m out for "high shot".

Deliberate tactics lol

For comparison purposes, can you please provide the same stats for each of the other 15 sides in the NRL. We need to make sure we are comparing like for like.

Leave it with you mate. I'm simply busting the "roosters give away penalties on their own line to reset their defence" myth. I also like pointing out the lack of 2nd half penalties. I think many other threads have pointed out the fact that chooks have been on wrong end of count for over 15 years respite personnel changes.
And can the geniuses that think we get more 1st half penalties to compensate might like to explain why we consistently receive the least amount of penalties. To be fair I'd dismiss it to if it wasn't my team.

Refs tend to blow more penalties in the first 20min of any game and far less in second halves. Not sure it's a Rooster specific thing to receive fewer 2nd hlaf penalties.

So you're saying that the refs give the roosters all of their leg ups in the first half so they can get early momentum? Makes sense.

an Pearce gets the ball and runs left, but Cordner has already gone ahead of him so he turns around, looking for someone to give the ball to. Oooh look someone being closely marked who is standing in front of me, I'll throw it to him. Forward pass that leaves the Rooster on the floor wondering if he knocked it on or the ref called forward pass.

Advantage negated.

Would be interesting to see the Roosters totally penalty stats since the Rothfield article earlier in the year. That article had plenty of proof that the Roosters were getting slammed in the penalty counts over a long period. Various stats produced by fans have demonstrated the same thing.

If all that has turned around since the Rothfield article and the Roosters have been getting a fair share of penalties since then, that seems fairly conclusive proof that the refs do go go into games with preconceived ideas about certain teams, and those preconceptions were affected by the Rothfield article. If you know what I'm sayin.

There's been a massive shift since the article came out.

Rounds 1-7 (7 games)

Penalties awarded: Roosters 32, Opponents 53.
Penalty counts won: Roosters 0, Opponents 6, Drawn 1.

Rounds 8-16 (8 games)

Penalties awarded: Roosters 49, Opponents 50.
Penalty counts won: Roosters 2, Opponents 3, Drawn 3.

I agree there has been a noticeable shift to the point where we are actually being treated fairly. I've had no major issues with the refs for well over a month.

Amazing what one article can achieve. Even one written by Rothfield.

Not how it should be though is it. Referees being influenced by newspaper articles. Seems like proof they are managing games with all sorts of preconceptions instead of just refereeing what they see. It's no surprise though.

Rothfield is arguably the most influential figure in Rugby League, sadly.

I'm not really whinging as we're finally getting a fair go and not being d**ked by the refs. But having said that, it truly is sad how easily the referees have clearly been influenced. It gives credence to the initial claim that they enter games with preconceived ideas as to how they should referee. In effect, it's validated what Roosters fans and some other fans have been saying

Yep, the whole thing has really shown up how predetermined refereeing is

Only 1 2nd half penalty again for chooks last night.
That makes a total of 24 in 14 games this year, an avg 1.7 per game
10 games of 14 where we have received 2 or less 2nd half penalties.

The main gist of his article at the time was the lack of 2nd half penalties. It hasn't improved that much which is why I wrote this last week. I believe we got 3 yesterday which is our equal highest 2nd half penalty count this year. That now makes 27 in 15 games which is an average of 1.8 per 2nd half. Highly doubt anyone has less than that.

Yes the penalty situation has improved slightly. We aren't getting penalised as much. We still have received the least. Let's not pretend it's all good now.

The Eels have 28 second half penalties in 15 games, but you don't see Parra fans bitching and moaning about it. Take out the first 3 games where we got 4 second half penalties in each, and that makes it 16 second half penalties in the last 12 games.

But you're right, the Roosters are obviously being deliberately screwed by the refs.

Why are you taking out the first 3 games? Maybe we take out the 3 games in which the Roosters got their most second half penalties too?

The Roosters low counts in second halves span a number of years, not just this one.

I wouldn't want to give Rothfield too much credit, it did though bring it to the attention of a few other media people who were also mystified by the lack of penalties we receive (Johnny Gibbs, Paul Kent for example).

You didn't see yesterday's game? Toops has the ball batted out of his hand by a Titan loitering in the ruck, knock on called. Even a couple looks at the replay and they still packed a scrum.

James Roberts runs on the last in his own half and has his collar grabbed and is tackled to the ground, a second later he passes the ball. Titans penalty ruled for high tackle. Soon after RTS makes a break from the back and gets chopped across the face, no penalty.

Toops taken out by a guy who wasn't attempting to catch the ball when a metre in the air (for the second time in 2 weeks mind you) drops the ball and knock on is ruled.

Mind you I didn't see the replay but that pass at halftime from Jennings to Maloney looked dusty, I was surprised they didn't pull that one back.

There has been a massive turnaround in the way Roosters games have been handled since Rothfield wrote those articles

In fact, Rothfield wasn't the only journalist who made mention of it, but he was certainly the one that made the most noise

As I previously said, I don't think what was happening was deliberate, but it's interesting to see how they've handled things differently since the article was written.

I have had no complaints with the refereeing since round 7

They miss knock on and forward passes every game. There was something off with ur penalties but these type of calls are just something that happens.
