How did Qlnd not see his injury, he was clutching his shoulder after every tackle and his arm was hanging like a limp bit of lettuce at times! Lol at dad saying his son hid it well.
I think he meant hid it as in playing on and still not shirking in defence. QLD saw it and gave it some work. Fotuaika gave it a good test after a kick in the second half for one.

I’ve never seen a fan base as obsessed with clarifying games as panthers ones

‘Well player X was out for us and player O had a bad night sleep so really that game isn’t included’

It wouldn’t surprise me if they have their own table they’ve drawn up to show the ‘real’ standings

Don't forget we would not have been 26-0 down in the grand final if Gerard Sutton was not the ref, and Gus also agreed that Penrith were the better team.

Nathan Cleary is very important to the Panthers premiership hopes. If he goes down for the season, I could see comparisons of the Panthers with the 1993 Raiders after Ricky Stuart broke his leg. Despite talent all over the park (e.g. Belcher, Meninga, Mullins, Nandruku, Nagas, Daley, Clyde, Croker, Wiki, Walters) once Ricky broke his leg in a 68-0 walloping of the Eels, the Raiders never won another game and went out in straight sets in the finals.

Luai / Burton far superior to Burton / May.
Agreed, but the point was during the absence of the origin boys, the heat Burton copped when he was clearly trying to win games was high from your fan base. He now becomes important.

I must admit I’m fairly upset that so many panthers fans have taken this in good humor, I was really hoping for some bites. I think they got me in this round

Jerome Luai was the kid coming thru the ranks that the penrith officials wanted to build a team around and had huge raps on, much like walker at the roosters these past 2 years, (the whispers of how good that kid is at junior level) but nathan matured physically a lot more quicker so bringing him into 1st grade was a better option, which seems to be be paying off, with all the game management he has learnt on field by maloney and wallace earlier on, im sure off field with barrett too.
But its no coincidence that penrith has risen from 11th in '19 to remain in the top2 since jerome partnered him, he was/is the golden child, gus has has mentioned this previously plenty of times, it was just waiting on his body to mature to play at 1st grade level consistently, now he is an origin level 5/8th, can we win this season without nathan? maybe, but cannot do it without Romy

you should be thankful Storm put the cue in the rack or it could have got really ugly.

I reckon no team in the top 5 rely on a single player as much as Penrith do with Nathan Acne Cleary Clearasil. He is their captain, kicker, best defender and all their attack goes through him. I don’t expect the same capitulation as we see when Manly are without Tommy T, but come the pointy-end of the season I just can’t see them beating a full strength Storm or a red-hot Souths. They are in trouble if they lose another half and Tyrone May gets the call-up..

Devastating if he’s out for any time for the Penrith season. They’ve really got something special going out at the foot of the mountains.

Wow! I really feel for Cleary… he was having a booming season. Potentially costs him a shot at a premiership, a Dally M, an origin clean sweep and a test jersey. Hopefully it’s not as bad as thought

Huge implications for the Panthers season and for SuperCoach where Cleary is far and away the top ranked and priced player…

Rugby League dithers around trying to make itself relevant beyond its mainly western Sydney and Queensland base by fiddling with the rules. Meanwhile Rugby Union in Australia tries to make itself relevant….but doesn’t have the players. Simplest solution is for League to go back to Union rules. Keep the NRL and the clubs in a National Rugby League, under Union rules, and play the Kangaroos against the All Blacks. League at present has nowhere to go or grow by itself and Union is at a dead end without serious player pool growth in Australia. It’s time to bite the bullet and merge the games again!

Even the most staunch league fan is yearning for a contest and cannot argue that these floggings are not the best example of the game. My team getting pumped week in/out has dampened deep investment which has allowed to watch for the entertainment, the players and young fellas and not get too peturbed about the finals score. When Storm/Panthers play we know what to expect. Highly likely they will face each other in the GF so think of it like Bathurst, Frosty and Lowndesy are half a lap in front but the battle behind them is still provides a lot of entertainment.

People no longer are infatuated with Rugby League any more; we will just start going to different restaurants for their sauces. In reality, League is a nice simple sauce, it really should be the tomato sauce of the world, but we even have the restaurant critic (journalist) with the eccentric tastes trying to influence the kitchen and the customers (fans) are all shouting. So now what is the sauce we have??? Ok I might have pushed the sauce metaphor far enough…

Personally I put these extreme results more down to the transition of the rules rather than the rules themselves. We’re in a state of evolution, a couple of teams found themselves well placed in squad and tactics to take advantage of the new environment. Plenty of others found themselves badly equipped. But that will change, squads and tactics will balance to the new normal.

None of that is to say I adore the new rules, they may require further steps forward or back. I just think that doing it now would be a blind change, as the waters haven’t settled from the last change yet.

If you look at each of the changes that have been made to the game over time in isolation, eg. the uncontested scrum, the 10 metres, the captain’ challenge, and so on, they seem to be justifiable and even a step forward.

But when you look at where the game is now to where it once was, we seem to have lost something significant.

I’m not sure how we now can get all of the worms back in the can.

If he doesn’t do anything maybe V’Landys could be singing Disturbed’s Get Down With The Sickness…

We cannot take anything away from Melbourne though, they were coached on how they will win and their execution was near faultless. That first try to JAC was heads-up brilliance. Everytime they got in the redzone it was all eyes for Walker. And credit to the young fella that was a tough night, he got smacked repeatedly and kept getting up. It’s also probably time we started to recognise that the Roosters injuries are catching up with them. It’s a great squad but the spine are all (essentially) rookies and that has stretched to the bench. They will fight but I think it’s only the weakness of the bottom 8 that will keep them playing finals.

Meanwhile Sam Walker discovers that although the new rules may suit his game much of the time , great defence can still shut players and teams down. It didn’t look much like touch footy when the shadow on the PNG terror , Justim Olam came all too close for comfort.

I generally enjoy watching Melbourne play, and was really looking forward to a proper contest last night. But between commentators (Ch 9) calling it remotely and sounding like they would rather be in bed for the opening minute, no crowd, pumped in fake crowd noise, and the contest lacking any sort of competitiveness, it was a wildly disappointing game. When I switched over to see what the score was in the AFL between Richmond and the Gold Coast Suns ( a team where i couldn’t name a single player), i saw it was a contest and stayed with it instead.

There was the stat rolled out last night that the Storm and Panthers are both in the top 5 teams of all time for for and against after Round 15. The I’m not sick part is wow, how lucky are we to be living in an era where two of the best teams ever have emerged in the same season. The I’m not well part is yeah, right

Last night should have been one of our season’s blockbusters but it was poor.

40-14, 50-0, 44-18, 46-6, 48-0, 56-12, 38-12, 38-20, 46-4, 34-10, 38-12, 28-4, 28-6, 32-18, 46-0… these are scores from this season between current top eight sides

Penrith really need to perform tonight against the Eels to match Melbourne.

The biggest difficulty NRL supporters face is now that Cam Smith has retired they can’t blame their irrational dislike of Melbourne Storm that’s borne of their want for the league to revert to being a suburban NSWRL on him being a “grub”.
Anywho, I’ll continue to enjoy them flogging everyone year in year out. Get your programs right NSWRL clubs and you too can enjoy success year after year.

fortunately or unfortunately the media and social media outlets have transferred their dislike to Munster. I suppose all teams have a ” bad egg”. Like him or dislike him he is an integral part of the Storm success. It’s also handy having Bellamy there.

Tbh, Penrith Panthers are the only possible saviour from this NRL season from hell. If the Panthers don't win and cement their place as the worthy kings of league then the whole thing will be a hopeless disgusting joke!!!! The game itself now is bruise free and just unwatchable.
if I wanted to watch touch footy, I can go down to the local Park and watch the kids play, it would be far more entertaining than NRL. Speaking of NRL, firstly they are not national and secondly they are playing some sort of game that now has little resemblance to Rugby League.
Up until this season I made a point (when I could) to watch every game, this season I have now lost interest and I have never turned off so many games at half time as I have so far this season.
No I did not expect the Roosters to beat the Storm, but I thought that they would have made a better game of it but to come out and play like a bunch of drunk wombats left me bewildered.
Their ineptitude last night made the Storm look better than they really were. The late change of venue would have hurt the Roosters more than the Storm but they are professional footballers and should be able to handle it>
I guess you can figure from my opening gambit that I am no fan of the rule changes.
