.

I'm not upset, just observant. Enjoy it while it lasts Mr. cats. In 2-3 years this team will be dismantled by the salary cap, possibly without a premiership to their name. It's already begun with Burton off to the Dogs. That scenario will be interesting to watch next year. It will probably end up like Bryce Cartwright at the Titans.

In 2-3 years we will still be producing talented NRL players at a ridiculous rate. We have a few teenagers in our undefeated reserve grade side that will stars in 2-3 years, the next Burton and whoever else may leave has probably already been identified by our development coaches from our junior grades, I can name a few that look as good as our current stars at the same age, some who look even better.

Who's bragging? I'm explaining your butthurt.

Butthurt? You're the one who reacted like a lil bitch when I simply gave my opinion in a 37 page thread, just like everyone else.

At the end of the day, you still lost the GF, just like us. Actually you were humiliated on GF day, at least we put up a fight.

That's cool that they have potential, but it remains to be seen if they can put any new trophies in your cabinet. Look what happened to the all-conquering Warriors juniors of 10 years ago.

You've also lost Gus who's the arguably the main reason for the return of your junior strength. Will it last? Penrith have always had the biggest junior base, yet it's only netted 2 trophies in your history.

So..

What is the “real” reason people have started hating Penrith in recent times..?

Envy of their success?
Gus Gould?
Ivan Cleary abandoning his bus?
Sex Tapes?
Others??

To me it would seem a combination of the top 3. They don’t seemingly have any folk who carry on like knobs on the field.... perhaps apart from the Canberra game..

That is a good top 5. Put Gus at number 1 and you have the correct Top 5.

Even the Canberra game there was trolling from both sides

Gus is on record saying he hired Matt Cameron and gave him carte blanche to build our junior development and pathways as he wanted. Cameron is the GM now so yes I think i we will be fine in that area, we have comfortably been the best at it the last few seasons and I definitely expect that to continue. We have always had the big junior base but for most of our existence we took it for granted, Gus got us to invest very heavily in developing them better as well as setting the up western academies over the mountains which has effectively expanded that junior base. I see no reason to think they will not keep coming through as they have been.

Yet even amid this information glut, the public remains ill-informed about many key aspects. This is due less to any restrictions imposed by the government or sporting organisations like the NRL, or to any official management of language or image, than to controls imposed by the public itself.

Its funny about the Penrith rise and the distain of the media. Sometimes the public defines its limits by expressing outrage. The running of a story that seems too unsettling, or the airing of an image that seems too graphic, can set off a storm of protest -- twittershiere, bloggers and radio talk-show hosts, "woke" warriors and enraged citizens -- all denouncing the messenger as an unbeliever, even treasonous. outside the religious like fervour that supporting a team can impose - In this swirl of menace and hate, even the most determined supporter can feel cowed.

People like Gus Gould or Matty Johns or Hooper or the NRL360 team or even Waleed Aly see themselves as a gatekeeper of all social discourse on issues but upset that that people don't need gatekeepers any more. As with many in corp media, he wants to be the conduit of discussion, people don't need to stop at gatekeepers these days and can discuss without the need to be herded into a view.

We respond in bad faith because we presume bad faith from everyone else we deem not to be on our side, and democratic debate simply disintegrates. The result is a public discussion that risks becoming overrun with nonsense.

In his reflections on people, teams, like minded groups, politics and language, George Orwell operated on the assumption that people want to know the truth. Often, though, they don't. In the case of Rugby League ,the many instruments George Orwell felt would be needed to keep people passive and uninformed -- the nonstop propaganda messages, the memory holes, the rewriting of history, Room 101 -- have proved unnecessary. The public has become its own collective Ministry of Truth -- a reality that, in many ways, is even more chilling than the one Orwell envisioned.

Wait Burton is now disliked? The Luai hate made sense. I thought the good ol' country boy Matt Burton was well loved by most. Can't remember him doing anything worth disliking him over other than signing with Bulldogs.

Then again all it takes is a player carving up a team once and half their fans hate him.

Yes. According to Bob Digit he's the main one. Not so much what he does, but what he's thinking while he's not doing it. As Bobby said "you can just imagine".

More than anything else I'm happy to see a board and President who are honest and upfront with members, rather than a bunch of spin doctors. There has been far too much dishonesty and treating members with disdain imo.

In the past,Too much bullshit and smugness from those who think they are better than anyone else.

But then at Penrith, Change came.

We saw an openness and transparency and a relationship between the Board and the players and the fans were they were all as one. Working together and in harmony and frankly it shows on the field.

So is Manese Fainu.

Crichton, Luai and To'o are great guys off the field. You are far more likely to find them spending their free time at an oval in mt druitt running around playing touch with local kids than in a bar or getting into trouble, they do a lot of community stuff off their own backs not things the club or nrl has organised. Say what you want about their on field stuff but anyone suggesting they are bad guys off the field is an idiot.

As a Penrith fan who went to school at one of Sydney's most elite secondary schools, I was made to feel inferior, I was laughed at and made fun of and the other children threw things at me and said you are unworthy Westie Trash. I kept myself to myself. Most of my life has been spent living quietly, very lonely, not going out much or if so, keeping to a corner of the room. Now nearing 64, I have resigned myself to the fact I will be without friends but to be honest, I prefer it that way. People let you down and I have had some nasty comments made about me from neighbours and strangers passing by me in the street when I wear my Penrith Panthers gear. At least I can return home and punch my pillow where nobody can see or hear me; plus I receive unconditional love from my cat, so all is not lost.

But now like the fiery phoenix, the Penny Panthers have risen and finally after all these years, I seem to have some value in my life. God Bless You Nathan Cleary, I hope you get to twerk your way up the premiership dais this year with your tik tok friends. We deserve it.

We are empathetic, those of us who are Penrith Panther fans and have been marginalised. We can’t wrap our heads around being deliberately cruel for sport, pretty much. Finals over the last little period are really tough and I get off of FB during the finals season as to not add insult to injury by looking at all of the happy (supposedly happy) families out there. My ostracism started when I first told my mum and dad I was a Penrith Panthers fan as a toddler and witnessed abuse. I was to be silenced at all costs. My mother told everyone about my over active imagination and that I was prone to fibbing. She set me up.. and I have managed to keep going despite her. My advice is to be a shining example of strength. They can’t kill our Penrith Panthers' spirit, although they try. I honestly believe my family would be pleased if I died so they could be comforted and receive casseroles, etc. I plan to live as long as I can now my Penrith Panthers are the best team in the NRL and just to be a constant reminder to all the haters out there, the vile haters who ostracise us, of what it means to be a Penrith Panthers' supporter.
