Penrith's draw this year...

There's a couple of flat track bullies out there.

Eels, Broncos, Titans early on.

The big 4 haven't hit their straps but a full strength Roosters absolutely smashed the Eels and the Storm look shot.

It's going to come down to Roosters, Sea Eagles, Rabbits, Bulldogs although look out if the the Storm make the 8 at full strength.

Panthers have consistently being improving and the first encounter against the Rabbitohs wouldn't be representative of our chances against them now. Our attack is slowly improving and our combinations are starting to click. But we still know that we are playing nowhere near our potential despite winning 4 in a row.

They play the Dragons, Titans, Sharks, Raiders and Knights - aka the 'Fab Five' - twice each.

And they only play the Roosters, Rabbits and Manly once. And also the Cowboys and Broncos once (both at home).

Who did their season draw, Phil Gould?

Look, they're a solid team who are well and truly on the up. But that's borderline match fixing!

They're the Gold Coast Suns of the NRL.

f**k me, would you like some cheese with that whine?

I'd like to apologise for unfairly beating the (top 4 placed) Titans and Eels...

... And yet, if the Dragons were to beat us next week, the headlines would read "dragons beat 1st placed Panthers" without batting an eyelid...

There's a lot of Panthers fans with sand in their vagina in this thread.

Yeah Tommy, that's why we started this thread to begin with.

2003 still hurts, hey Tommy?

In all seriousness:

We've got a long way to go.

We've shown a lot of strengths. We've shown a lot of weaknesses. There's a lot we've yet to be properly (and regularly) tested on. Most promising of all, we haven't reached our potential.

For what it's worth, I don't currently view us as genuine title contenders. Yet. That doesn't mean we're pretenders either.

I won't judge our contention credentials until the close of rd. 26.

This is the most complete Penrith side we've seen in years. No matter where you stand, things are on the up and up at the foot of the mountains.

I think blaming our position on a weak ladder/draw is a cop-out (as the few rational responses to this thread have already demonstrated). I cant imagine many clubs would have wanted to face the knights rd. 1.

And if we are complete, undeserving pretenders, I'd ask why your club isn't leading the comp instead? It's far to early for us to get carried away, but it's equally ridiculous to criticise our position and players. They've worked hard and deserve their position as much as your club deserves its position.

Are the Donkies (to use an example) really struggling because of the unfavorable draw? :

Serously. You want to see a fixed draw... the Broncos having 7 or more days between every match except one for the opening 18 rounds. That's a ridiculous leg up on the competition and gives them a headstart on nearly every single game.

Rounds 11, 12 and 13 they have 8 days from their last game, then a bye before going back to a Saturday night game in Round 15. 6 day turnaround for Round 16 against the Sharks, then a 10 day turnaround before having to face the competition leading Penrith Panthers.

They only have to play the Panthers, Roosters and Eels once. They get to play Dragons, Titans and Knights twice. Deadset I would trade Panthers draw for the Broncos draw in a heartbeat.

And, if we aren't quite the real deal - probably the most sensible post in the thread:

Happens every tear to different teams. If you don't make the finals because of the draw then you were never going to win it anyway. If you do make the finals because of the draw then you get exposed when it counts. Like the bounce of the ball, sometimes it goes your way sometimes it doesn't.

Here is nrl.com's pre-season analysis of the draw:

http://www.nrl.com/how-tough-is-your-teams-draw/tabid/10874/newsid/75666/default.aspx

Under our system, each side was assigned a "difficulty ranking" as opposition based on where they finished in 2013, with the minor premiers and eventual champions Sydney Roosters assigned a maximum 16 out of 16, and wooden-spooners Parramatta assigned the lowest score of 1 out of 16. We've used those rankings to determine the toughness of each side's run in 2014 – though obviously there is no guarantee a team that was deemed "easy" in 2013 won't improve in 2014 and vice versa.

2014 draw difficulty (hardest to easiest)
1 – Wests Tigers
(difficulty score of 225, six repeat games against top-eight teams)
2 – Eels (223, six)
3 – Broncos (220, six)
4 – Dragons (218, four)
5 – Sea Eagles (208, six)
=6 – Bulldogs (204, four)
=6 – Raiders (204, four)
8 – Roosters (201, six)
9 – Knights (200, four)
10 – Storm (199, four)
11 – Panthers (198, four)
12 – Cowboys (197, four)
13 – Titans (193, three)
14 – Rabbitohs (192, four)
=15 – Sharks (191, four)
=15 – Warriors (191, three)

2013 draw difficulty
1 - Warriors (224, five)
2 - Raiders (222, six)
3 - Tigers (213, five)
=4 - Eels (212, four)
=4 - Rabbitohs (212, six)
6 - Bulldogs (211, six)
7 - Titans (208, five)
=8 - Dragons (201, four)
=8 - Cowboys (201, four)
10 - Sea Eagles (200, four)
11 - Knights (199, four)
12 - Storm (196, four)
13 - Broncos (195, four)
14 - Roosters (192, four)
15 - Sharks (190, four)
16 - Panthers (188, three)

Here is nrl.com's pre-season analysis of the draw:

This shit is so f**king stupid. You can never know in the pre season how last years top 8 are going to perform and that has been proven already mid season. It is entirely speculative and therefore pointless.

The Warriors and Sharks have the easiest draws this year, do they? Well that totally explains their current positions, doesn't it...

I Bleed Moron makes a good point.

If the team coming last has the easiest draw, then the team coming first must have the hardest draw.

Are the Broncos really struggling though ? Coming into this round they had the same number of wins as Penrith.

Struggling was the wrong choice of word. Really meant to just say not leading the comp. Was too lazy to come up with my own example so pinched mx's. ;-)

I think we deserve to be where we are now, just like we'll deserve to be where we are come round 26, and if we're given the chance to play finals footy and don't have the mettle to compete with the top sides, we'll be exposed and we'll deserve that too. Hopefully, whatever happens, we'll learn and come back stronger.

It's a shame the Rabbits don't get to play Penrith again.

An easy 2 points for us like the first game.

They had nothing.

In cricket terms - flat track bullies.

I'm really going to enjoy watching lol@souffs choke come finals time as usual just because of this post and Bunniesmong's mindless dribble that he carries on with.

From one more game. They aint struggling though, they are a good side.

Chances are you will, in the finals. I wish we could play the Rabbitohs again too. It would be a good gauge of the improvement in the side.

It is only because of a favourable draw that Penrith is first in the NSW Cup too :sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:

I guess we'll have to beat Roosters and Manly to convince some.
Maybe then the wise one will beam himself the f**k out of here.

Panthers are going great but the mighty Eels did carve them up the first time we played them when the special one played, the 2nd time when the special one didn't play doesn't really count

OOooh sour grapes?

Your Rabbitohs led the comp this time last year. How many posts can you find from Panthers supporters begrudging you that position at that time? So what is your problem?

The Rabbitohs would have led this year too, but they've lost five games, while three other teams have lost fewer games than that.

We've beaten the Bulldogs, Eels and Titans twice. All top 8 teams at the time of beating them, and the Titans and Bulldogs were even competition leaders for a bit.

Our 4 losses, two of them we were well and truly off the pace. But that was also before we had found any form or consistency, and the Souths and Eels were on fire at the time. The loss to the Storm was actually one of our best performances all season and more an indication that we could be a threat this season then some of our wins are. A bit of luck and the referee not calling a fair pass forward and we probably win that game, likewise our other loss could have been a win with a bit of luck.

I don't care what quality you rate the opposition. Playing 12 games for 8 wins, 2 close losses and only not being a chance in 2 games all season isn't bad. Especially when all of those losses were while combinations were still new and we were nowhere near our best... and we still aren't.

I thought this thread would be just Dragons fans bagging out Penrith because of Soward but imagine my surprise when I see it's mostly the Rabbitohs fans who usually go off early after a good win in the Charity Shield and you don't hear from them after week 2 of the finals.

???? You making stuff up?

Ftr I don't rate the Titans. They're being shown up for what they are - a quintessential 12th-14th placed team.

Aha I read that as twice each. More commas lol my mistake.
