perfect pop song

This begs the question - what is pop?

Is it a band like U2 or is it Kylie Minogue or is it both?

I would say that whereas pop once merely referred to popular music, these days it is its own genre and refers to acts that specifically write (or have songs written) to sell singles and make an appearance in the charts.

Thus I would say the Kylies and J-Los and Kanye Wests of this world are pop artists but U2 etc aren't (although you could argue that they almost are, so lacking in inspiration are they these days).

Thoughts?

Justin Timberlake is abysmal, atrocious, awful etc. It's like trying to listen to a cat trying to play the harmonica with its arse when one of his songs comes on.

That f**king "cry me a river" sh*t and that "sexy back" garbage are the two worst pop songs of all time.

They make me want to go find "ring my bell" by Collette and play it at full volume into my headphones until my ears bleed..

Who buys his CD's, who, who, who?

Don't they realise it just makes him want to do more?

I think You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling is close to the perfect pop song.

According to a show that aired on the ABC it is the most played song on radio ever!

Good Question Dev.

I reckon it is down to the actual song.

Perferct Pop to me is a song that is catchy the first listen and has a hook that justs makes you want to hear it again and again...until your so sick of it you want to kill yourself.

Speaking of non pop thangs..
I saw a bunch of freaks southbound from newcastle on Saturday.
They were at a Macca's/roadhouse and they looked to be going to some heavy metal brewhaha .
..any idea what it was?

No idea. Trying to remember who's touring at the moment but I don't have my drum media with me!

Hmmmm - see, I despise pop. I hate catchy. The best songs are the ones that grow over time. If the song goes for 20 minutes, so be it.

I'm over the formulaic 3-minute verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-chorus-chorus crap.

If it's in the charts, chances are its crap

Do it then.

Won't stop JT and his rise to chart-dominance.

give this man a cigar as well.

Mathew sweets album "girlfriend " is one of the greatest pop albums ever !!!!!

Waterloo sunset is also perfect pop...I used to do a version in my band..we 90's it up a bit.

Bob Evans has some song on JJJ at the moment that sounds like the Beatles and that is a bloody good example of pop music the way I see it.

There was an Aussie band called Finiscad that did a song called "coppertone" it was almost classic.

..and who could forget "The Clouds".
