Pet hates in gyms

The new year resolution people I find slightly vexing. Simply because they quite clearly don't know what they are doing and will burn out. I know for a fact that most of them will be gone by march.

There is so much good information available for free yet its chubby women jogging and skinny guys avoiding free weights.
I really only got my first taste of them tonight, but they were f**king everywhere. Most of them are inconsiderate pricks aswell. Not using towels, spending half the nights on their phones while you're waiting for equipment, and doing their exercises in the most inconvenient spots. I hope they f**k off soon

Yep, they appear at the UNSW gym in January of every year.
A good bunch of them will give up in February.
The ones that last til exam period are usually defeated by that, never to return...until january next year.

I saw this fat ham-beast working out with a trainer this morning. Every 5 minutes her phone rang and she stopped the session to talk on it. This happened about 6 times in her session that I saw. I looked at the trainer and he shrugged and said "She's paying for the session..."

And she'll get cranky at not losing any weight and complain about the cost of it and go back to spending that money at Maccas.

What always works for me when someone is on the equipment that i want to use, is I ask them if they mind sharing the equipment which is an obligation anyway. This approach makes them aware that someone is waiting for the equipment and if he/she is still on the phone there is nothing rude about taking their towel off to do my set.My sparetime is regimented so I cant waste time waiting for slackers with no gym ettiquette as I work 12hour shifts but still have to help out at home with the family. And I never use an arrogant/aggresive bully approach when asking to share equipment, most seem to have enough common sense to realise they are obliged to share.

I copped flack the other day when I used the power rack with safety bars to do my bench press. I didn't have a spotter and basically told the dude to f**k off since he was going to use it for curls anyway. Power rack is for squats or for any heavy compound where no one is spotting you. I'm actually surprised that more people don't bench in them since at least you can go as heavy as possible and the safety bars are better and safer than any spotter I know.

Left a reputable gym in bankstown, for a 24 hour gym in Guildford.

The place is an absolute brothel. Weights everywhere, except where they need to be, and rubbish on the floor.

Mind you, on first inspection, the place was neat and tidy.

A bit off topic, are all 24 hours gyms this messy??

I go to anytime fitness in both Campbelltown and Minto. When I was at Ctown it was messy as all F*ck on a Monday night. Ever since I switched to minto (since its opening) place is spotless. Dumbbells always on the rack. ALWAYS. Can't stand them left on the ground anyone who does cops a serve. But no one is normally that dumb or lazy if u can lift it put it the F*ck back.

I was going to join a 24 hour gym but the lack of free weights put me off.

My advice for anyone wanting to join a 24 hour gym, is to try and inspect when the gym isn't staffed.

Otherwise spend the extra $$$ at a conventional one.

I went down in my lunch break and it was tiny, the changerooms were separate closets and there were no free weights, only Smith machines. Obviously they don't want someone braining themselves at 2am.

It was $12.95 a week. I went up the road to Fitness First (which I kind of loathe) and pay $19.95 a week for all the facilities.

when its extra quiet bench press from the bottom position is an excellent workout for developing more power.Simply set the safety bars at a height low enough so you have to shimy your way under the bar on the bench. Its safe but you will find that low reps are recomended and you cant lift as heavy.Of course if some1 wants to squat I give way.
You can also do this movement with squats.
