You continue to fail to justify why with more valuable content the tv deal comparison has gone from 10%-20% historic gap to 30-40% from 2025?
With all the concessions and new content nrl offered this tv period the gap should have closed, not doubled!
you continue to fail

You are justifying your predictable comments by trying to make ignorant comparisons. You don't really know the cash components, and journalists are hardly reliable sources .

One more time for the whiner from the West, 18 team fumbler comp operating and still does , 4 qtrs advertising space more opportunities to sell products ,their fumbling games a whole lot longer for viewers to pop in any time, they have teams in every state even though in 2 states few give a rats to watch, time of negotiation bearing in mind a 17th team was in line for the NRL(the NRL wanted certainty in the midst of COVID and sitting around on their a*se waiting for clear air was too risky, expiry dates of both code's negotiations also will impact next deal.

Channel 7 was/is more flush with funds than Nein and there is zero way 7 was going to sacrifice AFL for NRL.They only wanted to cherry pick with SOO.

As for CH10, if you have been keeping up to speed, Paramount has been cutting back its workforce 25% due to competition.
But of course you with all your medical knowledge just knew COVID would get a whole lot less effective when AFL did their deal. And the NRL should just have taken a punt and waited.
Conversely if COVID had gotten hell of a lot worse in 2021/2 ,then the AFL might just have to have a bigly cut and you would have been looking for a place to hide.

And the irony of all this sh*t you complain about Tv deals , then in the next breath bag the NRL for trying to secure additional funding in the U.S.

It really isn't that difficult to understand, Though we are dealing with a special kind of simple here.

Re ch7. Kerry Stokes is from WA, Most of the board are Victorian.

In those states AFL is massive. So they can maximise the qtrs. 30 secs after goals etc

They aren't an option for NRL.

Leaves ch9 and ch10 ( who have issues with their regional coverage) as the options

You have been told are a too dumb to understand.

How many deals have gone 9 years into the future?

A couple of sources have stated NRL is cash only. Whereas AFL hasn't.

IF true ( no one knows, Despite you thinking you know all) That adds 10% to the deal - Using the ch9 split that we know.

At 3% growth. You can take 27% off that 2031 figure and you get deals that sit where they always have.

So once again you are full of shit

It's because Foxtel, who is 65% owned by a $20bn company (News Corp) and 35% owned by a $50bn company (Telstra), desperately "needed an asset". Some say they were so desperate they were even begging! So Vlandy's, rather than taking advantage of this once in a lifetime position of leverage, drastically undersold the TV rights. That's just a testament to what a nice and generous person he is, which is why all the News Corp journo's are so unanimous in their love and praise for him. Then he renegotiated the Channel 9 deal mid contract for a lesser amount so Ch9 could go and use that extra money to purchase the rights to the NRL's main competitor, rugby union. What a shrewd negotiator!

It's very important you believe that this was all based on incompetence though. Whatever you do, do not notice that Vlandy's got the position of NRL Chairman on the back of a very aggressive News Corp campaign and think that he might be a News Corp plant acting in their best interests by underselling the NRL rights to them. Rupert Murdoch would never do anything unethical like that to benefit his own organisation at the expense of rugby league.

Again easy to say with nothing to back it up.

Fox sports only has 4.5m subs - So what limits what they can spend

It’s apretty accurate guess on cash components , and I’m being generous on the nrl component and you know it,

and again all of those difference have existed for the last three tv deals. All of which carried a 10-20% gap. The nrl has added more content and an allegedly valuable second brisbane team, as well as other concessions such as closing digital media down. And with all that the gap has doubled!
Spin it how you like the stark reality is we have added more value for tv and somehow ended twice as worse off!

Even best case scenario and we got $395mill cash avg, which I highly doubt, we know afl got $570mill cash inc telstra. That would be around $530mill cash from tv, so yep on avg a difference of $145mill ayear for 25,26&27. Not to mention the $60mill gap in 23&24.
still waiting for those Vlandys tricks up his sleeves! Maybe Vegas is the trick we’ve all been waiting for? Penn and Teller style?

He said he undersold the TV rights?
Pretty much, or do you think the fox cough line was him saying we got a great deal?

his responses were laughable.

”We will be negotiating our deal pretty soon to take us up to 2031. We’ve got a few things up our sleeves, which I can’t say too much about it”

“But I’m not concerned because we will be negotiating. We did them a favour, now they’ve done us a favour. We will be maximising our rights now.”

“At the time, Fox needed an asset on its sheet to continue its viability. If we didn’t come into play, there’d be no Foxtel.”

“If Foxtel coughs, all the codes catch a cold. When COVID-19 hit, they were the only ones. If they went under, there was no-one else available.”

On what fox paid: “There’s a confidentiality clause in all our agreements. What does it matter anyway?

There is a big difference between bleeding the networks and getting a good deal for both parties.

Lets break down the deals

Ch9's who's figures we know, 100 games roughly and are paying $115m cash. That has them paying over a $1m per game they show.

Due to deal with Fox Sunday and Friday games struggle to even get 500k in viewers. Origin is where they can make cash back

There are no extra games for them, The games aren't into quarters to allow more ads. When refs let the games flow there aren't even a lot of stoppages to insert ads into general play.

Fox/Sky - they show 204 games while we don't know the exact figures. Whatever figure is used it still is again $1m a game.

Dolphins did come in and Fox upped their price, But there was no new content created.

Like with Ch9, Games are still in halves. There are no ads during play. So no new sources for ad space.

This is without the production costs, Maintenance etc

Fox has released overall Sub numbers, Of the 4.5m that have Fox sports.

How much realistically could you raise sub fees and keep existing customers?

What about getting new ones in?

You make them pay out more then lose subs and then they can't pay in the future. The plans are for 3 more sides in the current and next tv cycle.

The more viable options the more chance those extra games bring in what they should. Killing Foxtel now to make them not a player may of brought more now BUT less next deal.

As I said to the other poster it is easy to say the deal is bad and should be more but reality tells a different story.

Perth red is being pretty disingenuous here

we know the afl offered an extra round of games to broadcasters and it’s pretty safe to say they also added an extra team as well as part of their tv rights

unlike the last two afl expansion teams which are an absolute failure and tasmania won’t be better the nrl has added a team which is already in many metrics a very strong rugby league club

team 18 whoever gets it will also be stronger than gws gcs and tasmnia

the reality is even with a 20 team afl comp it will be dwarfed by an 18 team nrl competition

the platform vlandys has put in place will pay off for the game for decades

afl will be stuck with 3 expansion teams which are a basket case and the lions and many Melbourne clubs not that much better

It really was 9 extra rounds in total.

That also doesn't mean NRL got a bad deal, It works out as 7 extra games with Dolphins for $20m.

Which goes with the equation for the rest of the deal.

It won't just be team 18 though. IF they do manage to have 20 teams for 2032, That makes the next deal worth far more.

No doubt the same whingers still won't be happy
