For once we might actually do something more visionary than them! A superbowl style travelling GF could be massive for the NRL in the same way Origin has become by taking it national.

There is no logical reason it has to be in Sydney.

Sure if gets the game a good deal then keep it there, but if not then get the best deal for it you can. Use it to leverage what the game wants to achieve strategically. Be it increased revenue, stadium development in different cities or State Govt support for new NRL clubs. Its a golden opportunity.

You do realise in the 82k seated Accor only has 32k for the General Public?

It makes a killing as result it means no one will out bid Sydney, So why move it?

With the nsw govt chipping in it actually makes the most money in Sydney with the corporates, ticket prices and capacity

it wouldn’t surprise me if they make a profit of close to 20 million from most gf in Sydney

if they did open it up for bidding then that’s the benchmark they need to beat to get it

If someone did bid Higher, NSW would just out bid them yet again.

You get more people that can come here, most spend the weekend here so it makes money

err thats the point. Competitive tension and all that. You'd think Vlandys would have learnt after the tv deal extension fiasco? Put it on the market for the next 5-10 years and let the best bids win.

But again. You are assuming that NSW will lose if it goes to tender.

They won't so all you do is repeat the circus agaib

Rugby League Players Association address ACTU for the first time

Media Release - July 25, 2023

The Rugby League Players Association addressed the ACTU for the first time in their fight for a fair deal in collective bargaining with the NRL.
The RLPA briefed the ACTU Executive on their dispute and representatives of every union in the country voted unanimously to support them.
Quote attributable to Rugby League Players Association CEO Clint Newton:
“We are honoured and proud to be presenting to the ACTU Executive. This is a first for the RLPA and, on behalf of all our members, we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity and the support the unions have provided us to date.”
“At the moment, our Association is confronted with a governing body that fails to recognise the fundamental rights our members deserve in return for their essential labour. Players are currently undertaking unprecedented action in rugby league because of the failure of the NRL to negotiate with respect and fairness.”
“The RLPA recognises how important the union movement has been for workers in this country, and still are today. The strong foundations they have firmly entrenched across countless industries have paved the way for sport unions and associations.”
Quotes attributable to ACTU Secretary Sally McManus:
“The players are the game. They deserve a fair agreement which provides them with certainty, security and a fair say over the direction of their work.
“The ACTU Executive call on the NRL to immediately cease their Union-busting tactics. The NRL need an independent umpire or should support the engagement of an industrial mediator or the Fair Work Commission, to assist in resolving the dispute.
“The union movement stands ready to assist with their full support and unite with the players and their union, the RLPA.”

not if you put it up for next few years. if NSW want to outbid everyone else, great thats more money in the coffers for the game. The only way of mzimising its value is via auction.
At the moment we get an annual circus where NSW Govt know NRl isnt serious about taking it elsewhere and so we go round the merry go round year after year.

Just like those 15000 Melbourne fans that travel to grand finals?

1500?

150?

15?
I travelled up in 2017 with two of my kids. We were in the top deck with quite a few Storm fans but most of them were casual fans currently living/working in Sydney. Reckon about a quarter of the crowd was going for Melbourne. Perhaps 5k - 10k might have travelled?

A GF outside of Sydney would sell out to locals anyway.

Not at the prices NRL charge in Sydney

We travelled from perth for it. fans that can will Travel to see their team in a Gf.
In reality they could sell every ticket to locals in those cities anyway as it’s a major sports event.

Clearly they're trying to get Albo to pressure the NRL by sucking up to the unions.
