Thats the best argument

Since 1982 we have lost

Newtown
Balmain
Wests - Played at Lidcombe
Bears
Lost Souths
The general vibe around RL was low in mid-Late 90's

As a result Swans ( AFL ) took advantage
RU around that time was very strong too.

Swans kept it, RU didn't and areas who kept a team are on the up still

Aren’t people on here suggesting that the only way a Perth team could work would be by bringing a Sydney team back from the dead and plonking them there

The whole argument about or for the Bears is only being looked at from the supposed importance of the north of Sydney and not actually the benefit to the area they are supposed to represent.
So playing 2 games at their spiritual home and 10
In Perth makes them a Sydney team lol.

fact is no nrl leader has talked about a Perth team in almost 30 years

vlandys is just about to not just talk about he’s going to do it

so i don’t get the nitpicking tbh

Newtown didn’t seem to hurt that much imo

the fact they had no money and their area was surrounded by other clubs probably explains it

They've had no success. When they win something, the crowds will flock to games, just like with the Wanderers.

Their best ever finish was 4th in 2017, and guess what? They had a higher average that year than the Panthers.
Lmao they have loads of success

That is simply untrue lol.
Every leader has going back to gallop in 2011. none of them were dumb enough to suggest it should be a fifo Sydney team though lol

I was literally going to say exactly this

byron is where the border should be

they are building a light rail going from right nest to tweed heads all the way up past main beach in surfers
IMO QR and Transport NSW should get together and pair resourced to extend the Gold Coast railway line down past Coolangatta Airport (as is proposed) to connect with the old line to Murwillmbah. The biggest obstacle after the airport is a small river at Murwillumbah requiring a bridge. From there, restore the line to Byron Bay with a Qld narrower gauge rail installed and they could run Brisbane- Byron services that would be competitive with coach services. Likewise, Transport NSW could run a Gold Coast service that went all the way to the airport- would be a big boost for people in northern NSW wanting to fly out from Coolangatta or trip up to the GC for a weekend getaway.

But I digress.

Swans wouldn’t have had those averages though if they weren’t successful on the field (or oval or whatever the hell they play on)

It’s pretty obvious that over the time of their existence their crowds have fluctuated based on their on field performances and there is clear statistical proof for this. The same with the Lions in Brisbane or the Storm in Melbourne. As with every other team in the NRL and probably fumbleball as well.

Sydney doesn’t just operate in some weird alternative reality where logic doesn’t apply.

The Giants have had loads of success? What?
Consistently in the finals
Loads of priority draft picks

israel Folau on 3 million dollars a year to help them win the battle of the west and get all the Polynesians playing afl

Kevin sheedy going down to pubs giving away free tickets

it was supposed to be a disaster for rugby league in western Sydney

lmao

No money, traditionally low support, little success and the inner west was already changing demographically by the early 80's. Hipsters weren't around yet to make them popular either.

They have missed the finals more than they have made them according to this

Notwithstanding, I actually agree with you that they won’t ever be a success and definitely not in the same ballpark as the Swans

They made the AFL Grand Final in 2019. Implying their best ever finish was 4th (even if that was their ladder position at the end of the 2017 regular season) is disingenuous. They made the 2019 GF and Sydney was collectively indifferent to it.

It all goes under the inner West banner though, That with the people being more open to new things.

This, GWS have had mild success.

What is it 4 finals series and a GF in 10 years? You as a Tigers fan would likely sacrifice a loved one for such a run

Played finals last year... crowds return they draw 6k

Parra ( Also in GWS territory ) ran 4th drew more

Bulldogs drew more than GWS.

WT drew more than GWS

So even in their good year RL was better supported

And that year they had better averages than 3 Sydney NRL teams.

The year after a grand final, when clubs generally see an increase, was played with no crowds from round 1, so we really don't know what crowds would have turned up.
