Like he actually had some very good points. It’s inarguable that they have managed themselves a lot better over the last 30 or so years.

Then he had some pretty weird tangents like this and the one about fumbleball taking over Newcastle and the Central Coast

As a poster said Rugby League had Super League set the game back 20 years. The ARLC being setup has started to get the game moving forward again.

Really interested to see how the Dolphins go. When talk of a second Brissey team began, I assumed it would’ve been a Crushers-type new club but given how well the Broncos are established now, they’ve decided to go for an existing club with an established fan base like Adelaide have done with Port. Weather that’s a deterrent to attracting new fans from outside their district remains to be seen.
It’s a no brainer

they’ve already got a sponsorship portfolio that’s one of the biggest in the nrl

committed 2 million pa on juniors own a shopping centre and a leagues club

and that northern coridoor is forecast to have major population growth

throw in south western Brisbane as team 19 and qld will be offering growth for years

Brisbane in the centre, dolphins north, jets south west and titans south east

Initially yes but with nrl bosses who were too weak to take on the clubs or guys like Phil Gould eg grant or Beattie

vlanyds gets it done that’s the difference

Clubs too were stuck in the past, Take Memberships. Early on Gallop wanted teams to push them, Clubs thought that fans being a member of the Leagues club was enough.

Even growth of Memberships NRL are well behind where they should be, All due to its own doing

Oh and Perth is about to get an nrl team too
Those issues are related to horse racing in general, not specifically the Melbourne Cup. Gambling is scourge on society, and the cruelty issues are more prominent in today's society. Horse racing will eventually die off or be banned, but not for many decades. We have covered this already.

And don't get Perth Red too excited, not sure a Perth team is coming on Pete's watch.

In the quest to increase Tv revenue we have compromised our active fanbase growth. Somehow along the way we managed to fall way behind AFL in active fan base measurements AND now have managed to fall way behind in TV revenue AS WELL! That's some doing.

I am not talking TV money until we get actual figures.

It wasn't that long ago that every game wasn't shown Live on TV, To not have games doubling up then need new time slots. New Event games are needed and slowly building this side of the comp up

Where are you predicting the next side will come from then? Another QLD side? Another NZ side?

And that's the compromise we have made for Tv revenue, but we have failed to generate the tv revenue of our rival, so in effect we have compromised our ability to grow revenue from fans and still ended up with less money.
And you dont have to look forward if you want to stay in your denial, you can look back and see the impact of this. $2billion revenue difference between the codes in the last 10 years since the ARLC took over the game.

Why are we looking to a rival with different setups?

Where is RL placed now compared to when the ARLC came to be in 2012?
That is where you judge how the game is improving, Especially when it is coming from further back then it should be

Because that's one of the ways of measuring your success, are you in front or behind?
After ten years of independence you'd hope it'd be in a better place, especially as we we were coming off a measure of conflicted ownership, structural turmoil, clubs merging and disappearing etc. Probably a better question would be where is the game now compared to at its peak, arguably the late 80's and early 90's. Is it stronger or weaker? Its got a lot more money coming in but has that translated to a stronger game in Australia?

To average over 70 000 + viewers per game and 25 million more per annum does not suggest an `active fan base measurement ` deficit. A pessimistic view once again.

Kayo has really been a game changer in regards to TV ratings

Total memberships in 2011 was 169,465
2021 memberships were 294,884 with a few teams still not reporting

That is huge growth and income coming into the game

guess if you consider couch potatoes active lol. I'm talking active as in putting money into clubs pockets by buying memberships, merch, attending games etc. We've seen in this latest TV deal just how valuable those 25million extra audience views are to the NRL.

Yes it`s a tricky one, League fans are no where near as fanatical on those fronts as fumbleball fans are, although as even Wookie himself has admitted memberships in fumleball are pretty meaningless. We just haven`t caught up to their level of subterfuge yet. But as pointed out above, we are learning.

with a revenue heading over $850mill a year they certainly can lol.
Thanks for confirming yet again that you are a fan of the Anglo-Irish game, and know doubt your fans on bigfooty will be happy with you being in there corner
Being a pom can you tell us where the GB AFL grand final is held in the UK. Lords? The Oval? Trent bridge? Old Trafford? Headingely? or Clapham common? LOL
Perhaps a list of professional and semi professional fumbleball clubs out of Australia? LOL, and don't say they don't want to expand because they do, as in the past they have held competition point matches in New Zealand and even took blood money from China, a country with a terrible human rights record, but you fumbleball fans won't mind that because you have no morals when it comes to money
