From what I can make out, you don't "just give a run" to a player in origin. It's the highest grade Rugby League in the world, you don't muck around with selections on potential, you pick what you think is the best combination at the time. When you select "willy-nilly" you get "The Phillip Duke Syndrome".
This is what i was getting at Einstein. Gasnier was playing sh*t back then, he wasn't even in the top 5 NSW centres. If you're gonna proclaim someone as the best ever, then that player should be consistently great. Gasnier's while being a very talented player, has only had about 4 good seasons. Players like Mal, ET & Renouf were sublime for thier entire career. Thus, I rate all 3 higher than Gasnier. Daley & Fittler were very good in the centres also. I'd probably rate what both of them did at centre, higher than Gasnier's 4 good years.

Yes, Mal did get picked from center until he was 34, and then turned around, after being "gifted" his last tour, to say "What has Rugby League ever done for me??"
OUTSTANDING !!![/quote]
The big man wasn't gifted anything. He was awesome in 94, and numerous Mal highlights pop into my head from that season.
As for the Super League comment. It was taken out of context. Mal isn't the best public speaker...look what happened with his political career.
