What an incredible week for Phil Hughes.

If either Watson or Khawaja bother to send off a text message Hughes probably doesn't play this Test and maybe never players another Test again. Instead, he gets another chance, scores runs, hopefully saves a Test and maybe goes on to play 100 more Tests.

The 30 test centuries at this stage is less certain but if all goes well he might get #4 tomorrow.

Those two are light years ahead in terms of talent, it was the mental game and dodgy selection that mostly let them down.

Hick could have been anything... I think the hype, a fairly useful Windies attack and then some poor selections etc cost him, his test record was still ok, just not what it should have been

It's not that simple. If that "1 score" was in the 1st innings of the 8 you'd have a point. The fact that it's in the most recent is very significant. He'll play the 4th test here and the 1st test of the Ashes.

The fact that his biggest score came in the most recent innings is irrelevant. He had 7 consecutive innings where he was complete shite. Had his biggest score occurred in the first innings it still would have been the same result - 7 consecutive innings of incompetent batting.

It's not irrelevant at all. The argument could've been made that he should've been dropped before hand, but he wasn't, and now he's got some runs. It's his first tour of India, maybe he's adapting?

Keep him there, and keep him for the Ashes.

We're batting first. Big day in store from Hughesy. I'm predicting a big 100 from Hughes and solid cameo 50s from Warner and Clarke.

The funniest thing about these posts is that even after 6 innings, Hughes still doesn't have 100 runs :lol:

The fact that he got a good score in his most recent innings is very relevant. It shows improvement. It shows he's learning and improving in these conditions and against these bowlers.

If he got a 50 in his first dig and failed every time after that you could write the 50 off as a fluke. But because it came after a run of failures makes it far more likely that it's a sign of improving and learning how to bat effectively in this situation.
