I remember Paul Fitzsimmons was invited to the Footy Show years ago, and took part in a discussion about the future of the NRL. Fitzsimmons was asked about were there too many Sydney teams and what to do about the problem. Fitsimmons suggested that he thought there were too many Sydney teams, and the answer was too scrap the salary cap and make a contest of the strongest survive. The Sydney teams that went broke, would be let go, and the more prosperous would continue. Rather then kicking teams out of the comp or forcing mergers.

Also Billy Moore was asked about it when he was at the time playing for the North Sydney Bears. He suggested a relegation system, similar to England. If your club made it to a certain position on the table, your club would not be turfed.

Guys don't flame me, these are their ideas not mine. However, their is no easy solution, doing something about this problem is like pulling teeth at the dentist.

Doesn't anyone else see what's going on here? Now that the Sharks are out of the danger zone, Slothfield is trying to f**k the Tigers off so his club will be off the chopping block radar for years to come.

Why doesn't he just roll over and die already FFS. The Tigers and Sharks do NOT need his input. Both clubs have been through tough times before and have come out of it just fine!

Needs more Bali Bongers and Koh Samui Full Mooners... Imagine all the crowds that they will get from people who would flock there. Schapelle could be the mascot for the Bali team.

Can I just say that I'm against relocating any team. Why should a new team/new city be forced to wear the colours, and logo just for the sake appeasing an old fan base which most of them probably won't continue following the club.

If I had choice in 1995 between the name the North Queensland Cowboys, or the North Queensland Sharks or Tigers. I know which name I would choose.

Forcing Perth, a second Brisbane team, or a second NZ team from having take the remains of an old club is going half hear-ted in terms of expansion. It's as simple as that.

If Carney is successful with sueing Cronulla, bye bye Cronulla..

You do realise he breached his contract don't you?

You also realise the Sharks are set to rake in millions with their development proposals?

He'll get them on termination process not his actions, if he is successful. The development is drip feeding them money now, do they have $3mill in the bank? Maybe tne pizza man will help them out again?

This f**king bullshit again? Rothfield and every other merkin who keeps bringing this up can go f**k themselves.

Let's look at the recent history of the current 9 Sydney clubs 1998-2015 (the NRL era; the result of 3 mergers, 2 clubs being killed off, and one coming back).

Canterbury - 2004 Premiers; 1998, 2012*, 2014* runners-up; 2003, 2006, 2009 preliminary finalists; 1999, 2001, 2007, 2013, 2015 finalists.

Cronulla - 1999*, 2001, 2002, 2008 preliminary finalists; 2000, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2015 finalists.

Manly - 2008, 2011 Premiers; 2007*, 2013* runners-up; 2012 preliminary finalists; 1998, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 finalists.

Parramatta - 2001*, 2009 runners-up; 1998, 1999, 2000, 2005*, 2007 preliminary finalists; 2002, 2006 finalists.

Penrith - 2003* Premiers; 2004, 2014 preliminary finalists; 2000, 2010 finalists.

Souths - 2014 Premiers; 2012, 2013 preliminary finalists; 2007, 2015 finalists.

St. George-Illawarra - 2010* Premiers; 1999 runners-up; 2005, 2006 preliminary finalists; 2001, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009*, 2011, 2015 finalists.

Sydney Roosters - 2002, 2013* Premiers; 2000, 2003, 2004*, 2010 runners-up; 1998, 2014*, 2015* preliminary finalists; 1999, 2001, 2008 finalists.

Wests Tigers - 2005 Premiers; 2010 preliminary finalists; 2011 finalists.

* = minor premiers

7 of 9 Sydney teams have won a Premiership since the last time the media and Queenslanders went full genius about culling Sydney teams. The two that didn't have combined for 2 grand final appearances, 3 minor premierships, and 9 preliminary final defeats.

But of course we know media memory only goes back 6 months (except for the Queensland media, which never forgets the slightest perceived injustice emanating from Sydney), and an all-Queensland Grand Final clearly means Rugby League in Sydney is dead and there should only be 4 teams in Sydney.

He'll get them on termination process not his actions, if he is successful. The development is drip feeding them money now, do they have $3mill in the bank? Maybe tne pizza man will help them out again?

I hope you never see a Perth team come to reality. You don't deserve it for your constant sniping and death-riding of existing teams. Now f**k off and learn what a shower is.

Agreed.

May I just ask though what does the * next to some of the team years stand for?

haha
he writes it like he has a clue too.

The development is going gang busters.
all current stages SOLD OUT.

I thought it might do ok but even the most confident person would never have predicted the incredible demand for the real estate and the shopping centre rental space.
I see McDonalds have a massive billboard stuck on the side of the stadium now.
Looks like they want to get in on it too.
What other NRL team will be getting paid rent from Macca's?
