He does love Rugby League.

You can't take that away from him.

He (and others there) just loves pushing his hateful agendas more.

Sad, really.

Whenever I feel this bellend can't stoop any lower.....

I'm confident that crowds can finish up on last year as well.

Wouldn't that be sweet.

i just endured it

*Crowds were down 15% over the first 4 rounds
*Spoke at length about the new AFL CEO and how the NRL tries to hire him (and almost had him). Then spoke about how the new AFL CEO's press conference was so much better than Dave Smith's
*Spoke about Brian Waldron's apology
*Picked on John Grant's gaffes
*Said he was going to Brisbane this weekend to watch the Wanderers play
*Said Phil Gould was the NRL's equivalent of Eddie McGuire
*City v Country was a waste of time, said that "only" Queenslanders like it because they get to see a heap of NSW players injure each other.

It was essentially an exercise in making the NRL look like a laughing stock.

Yep, what about it was just an real shit heaping exercise, he never tried to defend the NRL or pump it up. When he was given a free kick at AFL, with the Buddy Franklin stuff, he basically soft balled it and even though he said he predicted Buddy would be trainwreck previously, didn't really put much shit on him or the AFL.

What about his claim about WSW selling out "every" game, they aren't even the top drawing team in there code FFS, its like saying Melbourne is the biggest drawing club in the NRL.

He does love Rugby League.

You can't take that away from him.

The guy has nothing but hate in his heart for the game, I wish him illness and severe head injuries.

The NRL has to put a stop to all these old dinosaur reporters and media has-beens who for whatever reason think they have the right to sink the boot into the code.

Paul Kent just said he would rather watch the local round over test footy.

That is dangerous territory right their, why do the NRL put up with these wankers, sack him.

You can't sack the media. Even removing their game day passes won't stop them rubbishing the game in print and on tv. If anything, it would make things worse.

They give them exclusives and they lap it up, then throw one to fairfax and they smash the game again. I don't know what the solutions is.

But I tend to think Kent's rant today has more to do with a ratings slump, and part of the agenda against the NRL is also the same for the DT's dwindling readership.

I'm convinced their rantings are damaging crowds and tv ratings, but it's hard to prove. Again, no idea how to fix it.

These journalists have lost relevance as the NRL and clubs don't need them to release there latest scoops anymore as they can now do that via their own webpages and through social media. The only way these journos can get any attention is to rubbish things

Compare it with the Melbourne media's treatment of AFL and you can see that things could be a hell of a lot more respectable and better for both parties.

God knows I hate AFL, but I'm envious of how supportive of the game the media is down here.

Yeah I agree. I don't know what it is about Sydney media. I think News are just so ego driven after having the game taken away from them and now they seemingly have no sway with the powers that be anymore. Once upon a time Frilingos, Hadley, Rothfield or Wilson would call Gallop and tell him to do something and he would. Now they can't. It's gotta hurt and the only avenue they have to react is this.

It will end when they realise they're talking to no one anymore. How long that takes and how much damage they do in between is anyone's guess.

You can't sack the media, true. But like organisations professionally run such as the NFL, you CAN (pre-season) stipulate guidelines to journalists covering the game as to what is and won't be tolerated during the season. Do you think the NFL would allow journos contracted to them to rubbish the sport the way not only Rothfield, but other people like Rabs and Gus in commentary (e.g. their negativity towards international RL) do? Or what about when Raaaaaaaay stopped calling a game on radio during the 2nd half because it was "too boring", about 10 years ago or so?

I just laugh at last year when that useless C-C origin match got a crap crowd in Coffs Harbour, and Raaaaaaaay called the radio station to rubbish the crap out of Dave Smith et al. (to the level of personally attacking him). Now, if Gallop had the power and influence to remove Gus from air for a few weeks in 2008 regarding that on-air barrage one Monday night after the SBW walkout of the Bulldogs, surely Dave Smith had enough balls to really give the ultimatum to Ch9 stating they wouldn't allow them to let Raaaaaay call games if he continued doing what he did. The NRL missed many opportunities doing things like that, not just with Raaaaaaay, but most of the folk from the Telegraph.

And I agree with Oikee regarding Paul Kent's comments. It is dangerous territory

The relationship between the players and the telegraph, the fans and the telegraph, and the NRL and the telegraph, is the most toxic it has ever been atm, their 'journos' more closely resemble shock jocks and in the last 10 years with the proliferation of sports magazine shows have become celebrities in their own right, it's little wonder they think they are bigger than the game and there is such a big disconnect with the fans. It's really just an example of a wider problem, of a struggling print industry that is desperate for ways to maintain relevancy and that's unfortunately through controversy and appealing to minority opinions. It's a scary prospect for society if it becomes the permanent business model.

I mean how low is Rothfield, claiming NRL crowds are down by 15 percent?

Fancy using the first four rounds only to suit his horrid agenda.

Let's hope the NRL hear of this and cut this pube wig's organisation off from all future exclusives.

Why should Smith do anything. If Hadley wants to abandon a game, he does so at the detriment of the company he works for. If Hadley were suspended by the NRL, then we'd be doing his network a favour.

Since the days of Peter Frilingos, the Daily Telegraph has become a media sludge pit, with some of the most poison penned rugby league journos ever allowed to hit a keyboard.
How anyone within the rugby league community from admin to fans can take their perpetual rl negativity, point scoring seriously is beyond me.

Bourbon Bec is a Swan's ambassador or was ,and continually fawns over them. Her agenda is anti Grant/Smith/the commission/rl internationals/crowds/membership,and geneflucting before the name Gallop.

Rothfield reminds me of the kid who continually gets sand kicked in his face, because he is a sook, who cant handle the fact he doesn't get scoops from the ARLC now.I know of no fan or player who would give him the time of day.His continual venom aimed at the game, is there day after day.
An absolute disgrace for a supposed rl journo ,working for the paper "We are for Sydney" the "Rugby league paper"LOL.
And you can put your life on it,Rothfield will be singing the praises of the A League G/F.

Massoud/Hooper not even worth giving them the time of day.C grade journos.

I miss Chippy. One of the only true Rugby League journalists. Yes he sometimes was a pain in the ass (all journalists are) but you could see his love for the game in his articles
