i just endured it
*Crowds were down 15% over the first 4 rounds
*Spoke at length about the new AFL CEO and how the NRL tries to hire him (and almost had him). Then spoke about how the new AFL CEO's press conference was so much better than Dave Smith's
*Spoke about Brian Waldron's apology
*Picked on John Grant's gaffes
*Said he was going to Brisbane this weekend to watch the Wanderers play
*Said Phil Gould was the NRL's equivalent of Eddie McGuire
*City v Country was a waste of time, said that "only" Queenslanders like it because they get to see a heap of NSW players injure each other.
It was essentially an exercise in making the NRL look like a laughing stock.
He does love Rugby League.
You can't take that away from him.
I think he's about 82 so he's not wearing badly :sarcasm:how old is he?
looks at least 70

You can't sack the media. Even removing their game day passes won't stop them rubbishing the game in print and on tv. If anything, it would make things worse.
They give them exclusives and they lap it up, then throw one to fairfax and they smash the game again. I don't know what the solutions is.
But I tend to think Kent's rant today has more to do with a ratings slump, and part of the agenda against the NRL is also the same for the DT's dwindling readership.
I'm convinced their rantings are damaging crowds and tv ratings, but it's hard to prove. Again, no idea how to fix it.

You can't sack the media, true. But like organisations professionally run such as the NFL, you CAN (pre-season) stipulate guidelines to journalists covering the game as to what is and won't be tolerated during the season. Do you think the NFL would allow journos contracted to them to rubbish the sport the way not only Rothfield, but other people like Rabs and Gus in commentary (e.g. their negativity towards international RL) do? Or what about when Raaaaaaaay stopped calling a game on radio during the 2nd half because it was "too boring", about 10 years ago or so?
I just laugh at last year when that useless C-C origin match got a crap crowd in Coffs Harbour, and Raaaaaaaay called the radio station to rubbish the crap out of Dave Smith et al. (to the level of personally attacking him). Now, if Gallop had the power and influence to remove Gus from air for a few weeks in 2008 regarding that on-air barrage one Monday night after the SBW walkout of the Bulldogs, surely Dave Smith had enough balls to really give the ultimatum to Ch9 stating they wouldn't allow them to let Raaaaaay call games if he continued doing what he did. The NRL missed many opportunities doing things like that, not just with Raaaaaaay, but most of the folk from the Telegraph.
And I agree with Oikee regarding Paul Kent's comments. It is dangerous territory
I mean how low is Rothfield, claiming NRL crowds are down by 15 percent?
Fancy using the first four rounds only to suit his horrid agenda.
Let's hope the NRL hear of this and cut this pube wig's organisation off from all future exclusives.
