The widespread sorrow amongst all athletes from all sports from all countries has been beyond amazing.

I'd go as far to say that its unparalleled

speaking for myself here, but many other fast bowlers have agreed with me on this.

As a fast bowler, everytime you bowl a bouncer, sometimes you just know when it's going to hit the batsmen, and things seem to be in slow motion as you watch the ball career into the batsmen.

This is the one thing I've been thinking of in my mind over and over, all the times this happened when I bowled a bouncer and hit a batsmen and realising that any one of those could have killed the batsmen.

And then hurting for Sean Abbott who will no doubt not only have vivid memories of that ball, but that it will be haunting him, quite literally, by being in slow motion in his mind.

I hope that he is able to overcome this terrible time, but know that it won;'t be swift, nor will it be easy.

I've never bowled a bouncer with the intention of hurting the batsman, its always done to get them out or get them out next ball.

I've been trying to write this post for 2 hours now, in between doing work and mental blanks as to what to say.

We got a message from our association last night requesting black arm bands and a minutes silence before play starts. The option to cancel the game was also given.

It was pretty sombre at Cricket training last night with a few blokes just sitting on the sidelines with a beer instead.

This has hit me harder then I thought it would and I've shed a couple of tears both yesterday and this morning while watching a tribute to Phillip on Fox Sports News. I never met Phillip Hughes, in fact the closest I got to him was watching him train at the WACA for NSW and Australia.

Could be the fact that I've been hit in the helmet playing Cricket myself. You just never think it's going to end up in an injury like this.

Possibly also because Phil's best years were ahead of him.

Shit stirring BM aside in the now closed thread it was only a matter of time until he got don the Baggy Green again, you don't hit 26 First Class tons without talent.

Thoughts definitely are with Sean Abbott. Chin up mate. This was nothing but a tragic accident. Reading that Phillip's sister spent a lot of time with him shows that no one blames you Sean, also shows the empathy between everyone involved. (If that's the correct way to say it).

R.I.P #408

You will certainly be missed.

you'll be hard pressed to find a pace bowler who ever wanted to hurt a batsmen with a bouncer.

But sometimes it happens.

And those are the moments I speak of.

A better idea would be naming a day of the test matches in Sydney and Adelaide permanently. I am thinking day 2, and the proceeds can go to a charity of the family's choice. It is realistic, and it won't change the fabric of the game.

Settle folks, we're all running on emotion at the moment.

Sit yourself in front of whatever it is that you access youtube from, bring up some videos of the little guy at work, doing what he did best, and more importantly doing what he loved most, and raise a glass if you're that way inclined.

I did just that last night, and while it hurt to watch alot of it, it made me appreciate just how talented he was, and just how much pain and sorrow those who knew him must be going through.

He won't be forgotten.

Vale Phillip Hughes, may you rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. You had so much more of your international cricketing career to go.

I also hope in some way Sean Abbott can get over this tragedy.

Australia and the cricketing world are in deep, deep shock with grief over this loss. of a champion.

I'm not a cricket fan and I'm not going to pretend to be one, but I knew the Phil Hughes was a genuinely nice bloke (like many crickets past and present) and, as Australians, as one, we should never forget him and ensure that what he has achieved for our nation in our national sport thus far should always be remembered through his legacy.

People are just brainstorming ideas. I don't think anyone needs to be criticized just for having an idea.

But the sentiment is right, he was never an attention seeker. He never said anything controversial despite having a couple of good reasons to at times.

In Australia, an NSW-SA trophy in his name. Funds from the first day of each test summer going towards brain injury charities and maybe in an unofficial way having 63 become a special number in cricketing folklore. I think those things strike an appropriate balance.

Most bowlers don't Twiz. I know I never have. I've only ever employed it as a tactic to stop a batsman camping on his front foot, a variety ball to get him second guessing or trying to get him flailing for a scoring opportunity when he's stonewalling everything on the pegs. It has it's place in the game.

You get the odd thug who just wants to knock someone's head off but it's rare.

How about the main gate near the members stand being named in Hughes' honour? A lot of people are leaving tributes to him at other cricket ground gates. Build a memorial gate to Phil and for years to come people who go to the SCG will tell each other to meet at The Phil Hughes gates.

Not a bad idea at all.

Out of all the ideas so far, these are the most realistic imo:

1. Phil Hughes day, day 1 Gabba every year.
2. Phil Hughes gates at the SCG
3. NSW v SA play for the Phil Hughes Trophy.

CA could put some $$$$ to doing up his home ground in Macksville and either naming it or a stand after him

it really depends if it is already named after someone as you can't change it if it is
