Plane Crashes Into World Trade Centre

a "final slution" could well be on the cards willow. there are many pakistani volounteers involved in the taliban and by all accounts the pakistan govt is very sympathetic to bin laden and his gang.
personally, i think that the taliban and alliance are as bad as each other. i would either introduce a large and powerful U.N peace (?) keeping force or pull out entirely and let them wipe each other out.

so ,a well placed neutron bomb would probably be the best alternative.
i got room for gav and his clan.........

Only last week many US commentators were concerned the war was going too slowly, with little sign of progress. The speed with which it has turned around is stunning. I'm sure we are getting mainly the US and allies side of the story, but surely the scenes of people in Kabul and other cities, celebrating their liberation from the Taliban, are not staged. Hopefully the UN can come in quickly and set up a workable government situation, and prevent too much retribution by the Northern Alliance troops. Obviously that won't be easy, given the past history and the different factions that will now try to assume power.
One report today on CNN and other networks said the US bombed a building in a southern Afghan city where high up Al Quaeda leaders, possibly including bin Laden. The news networks are talking about the US ground forces starting to close in on him, now that the war seems to be won. Although the war may still continue for a long while

Ah yes Ozbash... but that would make Gav & Co refugees. I'm all for a bit of queue jumping.... because lets face it, after we implement 'the Ozbash plan', we're gunna have refugees coming out of our ears.
But lets not stop with the Afghanistan and Pakistan. Those buggers in the Middle East have been fighting for generations. Lets put them at ground zero too. As a matter of fact... what about Northern Ireland? Now thats what I call a conflict that has been 'running on instinct' for far too long.
Come to think of it, you could draw up quite a long list... the only problem being that you might run out of Neutron bombs.

The laws of fundamentalist moslems is that the war on terrorism will never end.
The only way that it can end now is if osama bin laden for gives the U. S. of its misdeeds (thats srictly as he sees it) other than that these misdeeds will be carried by the families sons and their sons and so on until may be in a thousand years time one of his prodigeny may just say " f**k this I'm sick of itIforgive you" and then it will be all over.
That would be my guess as to why bin laden allowed the stating and televising of his 4 young sons at play with military weapons.
The reality is that, thatis most likely the only thing coming out of Afghanastan that is not propaganda.
On the subject of the Northern Alliance, then of course there is going to be atrocities. These people have just spent the best part of there lives living in a drought stricken desert(could some oneplease explain that) and suddenly they are conquerors of their own country. That would be better than any of their finest home grown hash to them, their bound to be off their melons. No excuse of course, its human nature for any one with an imbalance and those sorts of deadshits come in every race of human existance.
The political scene is not nice either. The Northen Alliance is not to popular with Pakistan and that leaves the U.S. with a dilemma, because if the Pakistani react by electing a government with fudamentalist sympathies then we would have a terrorist safe haven with nuclear capabilities.

Ten late news shows the 2 christian missionaries held hostage have been released.
2very, very lucky people.
I must admit that I gave them absolutely no chance.
Very best of luck to them and all the best for their futures.

It is good news feral.
Today, German authorities were reporting the release and the ABC ran a news item about it on the midday news. Alexander Downer, the foreign minister hosed it down saying he didn't believe it. About an hour later it was confirmed and Downer said he was acting on advice from his office not to get the families' hopes up.

It appears that the taliban saw no value in keeping hostages who for all intents and purposes were given up for dead.

Apparently the Taliban have issued another threat to the U.S... they want to destroy America

Maybe they would want to keep their homeland first....

Cheers

There has been speculation today about possible involvement of 'bin laden supporters' in the plane crash in NY earlier this week. It was mostly made on the opinionated shows that Fox News runs, but it makes for interesting thought...
The Taliban are seemingly on the backfoot. But as i said 10 posts ago, only one side of the story is getting out and that means there is undoubtedly propaganda in the news reports. I don't think they have played their last card yet, the fear of the unknown is the greatest fear of all...And like it or not, the actions of Bin Laden and the Taliban have put the world in a state of fear. So did he succeed in his objectives?? Its an interesting question....

I saw the same story MFC. According to the show, there is a cover up going on. The tail wing fell off because of sabotage.
Crazy thoughts? Well perhaps... but the US airline industry is desperate and I believe this was the basis of the conspiracy theory.
They did show the tail wing being hauled out of the river and as the guy said, it didn't looked damaged... it definitely looked as if it 'fell off'...as if it wasn't correctly fastened. I don't know enough about this but it did look questionable.

If it is true, that the US govt and airline industry are covering this up, well I'm not sure if I can really blame them. Similar cover ups happened in all the time in WWII. The reasoning being industry needs to have the confidence of the people. But also it was seen as important that the enemy wasn't getting any credit for lowering morale.

I know why they would do that Willow, but isn't that an example of how state run papers operate? They only report select matters. It is a free society, i don't think there should be restrictions on truth...
Look at all the cover-ups in the past. Most of the time, it just leads to further trouble down the track. I don't doubt that alot of stuff is being covered up at the moment, to be honest, i have little doubt that American and British soldiers have already been captured and/or killed. But as i said before, only one side of the story is getting out, the sanitized and 'american slanted' version of events....
Im not sure about the airline confidence point. A plane crash is a plane crash. I don't know if knowing why it crashed would improve my confidence in planes at all. Whether it be faulty engineering or terrorists, its still planes crashing.
By the way Willow, do you watch that show on Fox News (about 9-10pm in Oz), its the American breakfast show. The hosts are amazing, the male presenter with blonde hair would have to be the most irritating person on television that i have ever seen....

MFC: Do you really think the British and American governments woud cover up their own casualties. What about the families of such soldiers? They would have to be told and the news would be out. I don't think you can hide that much from the American press for long.
Meanwhile, good news today. Bin Laden's second in command has been reported killed in an airstrike. They may be closing in on bin Laden himself soon.

No MFC, I saw a different fella talking about it. I'd say that there a number of observers spouting the same theory.

"Im not sure about the airline confidence point. A plane crash is a plane crash. I don't know if knowing why it crashed would improve my confidence in planes at all. Whether it be faulty engineering or terrorists, its still planes crashing. "
I can't say I agree that a 'plane crash is a plane crash'. The events of September 11th have shown just how much effect one plane crash can have. I'm not just talking about the loss of life, I'm also talkng about the enormous consequences and the fear it has generated.
I think people can ultimately live with accidents and sloppy workmanship... but to know that someone is deliberately out to get youcreates a completely different mental viewpoint.

If the recent plane crash in Queens was immediately proven to be another terrorist attack, the ramifications would have been more far reaching than the reported tragic accident.

There are unconfirmed reports that the Taliban have surrendered.
This is contradicting other news that Taliban forces have been firing on the Northern Alliancein Kabul.
At the very least, it appears that sections of the Taliban are giving thmselves up.

Also, the USA have offered $25,000 for any info on bin Laden's whereabouts... I would think that would represent about 10 years wages in Afghanistan and most would jump at it.

This thread has been inactive for a while. It'll never get to 700 at this rate.
Today the US announced they have found a tape in which Bin Laden says the damage to the WTC towers was even more than he had hoped. He thanked Allah for helping them. This obvious admission of guilt would seem to justify the US actions in going after him and his terrorist network. Hopefully reports that they are closing in on him are true.
A side benefit seems to be that the country of Afghanistan is being rid of a horribly repressive regime, and they will be better off in the future if the peace talks in Germany work out

Its been weeks hasn't it. Almost plum forget.

The video thing it supposedly going to show us evidence that bin Laden is almost certainly responsible for the Sept 11 attack.
Excuse me, but I recall that the US government had already shown other world leaders what they described as 'compelling evidence' that bin Laden was behind the attacks. This was revealed in September but never made public.
I question why the US has to re-affirm it's position with this evidence. Are they saying that they didn't really have evidence before now? I'm confused by this.
The video footage which was found in an abandoned house apparently shows bin Laden being very happy with the attacks and happily surprised when the towers came down. A lunatic no doubt but I thought we already knew this. There were already reports that he was happy with the attacks.

I guess this is just something new but once again, it remains to be seen if it will ever be released - and if it is, will it be unedited?

I think the difference between this and previous evidence is it's VIDEO evidence of him commenting directly on the attacks. If true, and if they show it, it will have more impact than whatever evidence they already had. It doesn't mean their previous evidence wasn't valid. Has any government except the Taliban expressed doubt about the previously revealed evidence?
A "lunatic" Willow, yes, but a lunatic who masterminded these terrible attacks.
