PNG bid for NRL

If this true, like you say it is then show us it.
You deadshits don't want to know about it. You'd rather make ignorant assumptions about the entire country based on the fact that it's "poor". You already argued against and NOW you want to see the facts. Says a lot.

it ain't a deadshit assumption saying port moresby is a basketcase. As Beave said, it's fine and dandy going over there in a hotel escorted by a convoy of guards with machine guns (even that don't feel too safe tbh), different kettle of fish living over there permanently.

So what? The people living there permanently aren't bothered. As I have said, people don't even know what the bid team has put in place to deal with every single issue. But they have and if anyone took any interest in discovering the facts they'd see that this bid has more going for it than all the others and most of the teams already in the NRL. But it's easier to just dismiss the bid without knowing anything about it.

Are you stupid?

I argued against it because in my research over the pass 18 months there is nothing that suggests to me that PNG will be ready for an NRL team in the close future.

You then say that people that argue against this bid don't know what they are talking about and are ignorant. Somebody then asked you to provide the information (that you surely have seen to be so confident in your opinion) and you don't provide it? Instead you lash out?

That shows a lot.

Final say, if you got the facts and evidence that they are ready to run an successful NRL bid in the coming years please provide it right now, or stop arguing against other people opinion of the bid without the informtaion and making large assumptions.

Firslty, I never said they would be ready in the next few years. And secondly, as I have said before, if you were willing to discount them before you even knew what the bid entailed I'm not going to impart the facts now. I'm quite happy to let the folk who go off half-cocked without the facts stay in the dark, where they belong.

In other words you have no idea and will look for any excuse out of posting up the facts.

As I have said, I've followed all expansion teams forthe past 18 months. It's not like I have discounted this bid without doing research, as you say we do.

And ECT, you still won't answer my question, honestly, have you been to PNG???

Its nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. The government will pay for everything and the tickets will be cheap.

k1.25/day, the price of tru kai, tin pish and ox and palm must of gone up.

I've never been to Australia.. Clearly I know nothing of the NRL..

What's your point?

They plan to build a stadium like Skilled Park and right next to it a camp for visiting teams. This is their biggest obstacle at the moment. If they get that done, you view them as any other team, in terms of revenue and crowds.

They have sponsors in tune of around 1mil AUD. They have full government support.

They have a fan base of 6 mil people, fanatics for the game. I'd be surprised to see their crowd average below 20k if they get in.

TV deal value - UNKNOWN.

Massive untapped talent pool means it wouldn't bring down the quality of the comp.

free houses............. yes, I am sure that will be 'cap exempt'.............

Probably not but the rent might be as cheap as $90 a week.

Anyway their cost base would be very low, so the grant would most likely cover all expenses.

Utter ridiculous post,

You can watch the NRL on the internet/TV and view it regularly and form an opinion on teams and learn the rules via various means as well.

Are you going to do that with a few webcams set up around PNG so you can 'get a feel for the place' and witness first hand how much poverty, crime and corruption is in the joint??? No, until you have been to the country and seen it, dismissing what a few of us are saying it futile. All of us want to see the game prosper and I would love nothing more than a team to run out from Moresby and be highly successful but it's a pipe dream at this stage.

The government over there is one of the most corrupt in the world, Somare will put the money aside for a new stadium and you can bet your bottom dollar one of his 'wantoks' (look the word up on the net) will be in need and the stadium won't be as per the architects designs................... take that whatever way you want.

It's irrelevent. If you'd seen the bid and what they have planned you would realise this. But you haven't. Some typical army jerk making judgements about a people as being "all poor" rate very very low indeed on my credibility scale when compared to a document written and prepared by eminent members of the PNG government, prominent Australian and PNG business people and prominent Australian and PNG rugby league administrators (all of whom HAVE been there). And you've already dismissed the comments of a PNG RESIDENT on this thread so it seems even you only consider first hand knowledge of the place as relevent when it suits.

army jerk remark??? getting personal are we now???

I'll give you the tip champ, I'm not in the army ;-)

So I'll take it you haven't been there with your deflection when I ask you have you been there, so thanks for clearing that up. So you have absolutely no idea what it's like over there and don't really know just how poor the joint is.................

I've read countless articles on the PNG bid and it's not going to work. Unite the tribes????really, the football team is going to make all the squabbling and bickering go away? Most of the country are not going to be able to get to the games FFS, the joint has no roads, how the hell is someone supposed to get to a game??(HIV awareness is commendable mind you).

And if the first hand account includes a story about people in Moresby being rich because they can 'drink like fish' I think I have every right to dismiss and point out flaws in his post. There's communities in the Northern Territory that the people drink like fish too, let's put a team there as well shall we???...........

The NRL, if they expand, it will be Perth and a 2nd QLD side. PNG is a pipe dream and until the country sorts it's own shit out, you can forget about a team there. I will say AGAIN, I would love nothing more than a team up there but it's not going to happen for a long time. The crux of my argument is the country is highly impoverished and should be spending the money on health care and hospitals and schools. Not a footy team.

Mikali-Eagles was right. Colonial attutude. A white man telling the fuzzy wuzzies what they should be doing with their own country. Papua New Guinea is a sovereign nation and they can and will do what they like to improve their country and if they identify a social need and want to do it some dickhead from Australia who thinks he can fly in and label everyone in the country as poor and dismiss them because there are social probems should get as much credibility as they deserve. And when someone who is ACTUALLY FROM THERE tells you you have NFI you dismiss that too. What a nerve. It's 2011, not 1911. You have no right to tell a sovereign nation what is best for it and to think you do is the most arrogant, condesending, biggoted thing I have seen on here for a long time.

The bid won't really work, it would have to be heavily subsidised by government (or mining companies through tax incentives).
It adds nothing to the TV deal. Junior pathways are good, but surely theres a better way of going about it.

I think first step for this bid would be a stable QRL Cup team. Build on that, get more players into the NRL, get a stadium, get some money, find ways to generate income for the NRL through the bid.

A PNG NRL team is 10 years away at best.

I know you have NOTHING when you start trying to get personal.
