Cairns is 100% Cowboys, only dopey Sydney siders think its not.

They aren't going to support a PNG team.

Luckily it's not really a concern, as there is no stadium in Cairns and won't be for at least a Decade.
Its funny that you think catchments are still a thing, with keebra park being affiliated with Souths, and north sydney being affiliated with the Storm,
Cairns again is over 4 hours drive to QCB stadium, thats like saying the Raiders are in Penriths catchment, or Wollongong is in the Knights catchment (both are actually closer in distanced drived)
The only reason Cairns is being used as a hub for the pasifika idea, is purely NOT to encroach on any other teams and to be the closest town to port moresby on Australian soil, since the aus govt are footing the bill, they want a safe haven to live/train at

Announcement would be in 2025,
For a 1st season start 2027

So at least 14 months away, by which time everyone will have forgotten this journalist’s big scoop if she’s wrong. Well played.

If they are so sure it’s a one horse race now they’d announce it sooner, PNG needs all the time they can get to setup NRL standard pathways and infrastructure.

Hang on, didn’t Penrith recently invent junior development from their big catchment area of Juniors?

Big difference between junior and second tier pathways/links and who the locals support in those areas. Keebra Park link up means next to f**k all. Souths aren’t suddenly going to have thousands of fans in Townsville or Titans fans in Ipswich.

Its not a "catchment" its Cowboys country. through and through, you cant walk around the streets without seeing Cowboys jerseys everywhere. They are the North Queensland Cowboys, not the QCB Cowboys. And you trying to apply Sydney siders driving times to it, is laughably naive, and shows how ignorant of the area you are.

They aren't going to support another half arsed transplanted team, especially one that represents another country.

And why are you using the phrase "Pacifika" that's not been mentioned in this recent press, just PNG.

If the government is going to build a stadium no one wants in Tassie, they can build a stadium no one wants in Cairns
The funniest thing about this forum is rugby league fans will cry when the govt wants to spend money on our game but when our rivals get more govt money they don’t bat an eye lid

eh with fans like those who needs enemies

the cba disaster meant they got delayed or it would’ve been announced this year which affects their lead time

2025 is too soon I really hope albo gives them more time to prepare

I think Perth will be announced in the next six months for entry two years after png but they will have more lead time to sign players

once Vegas is finished they will concentrate on expansion but png will be announced early next season if not sooner

The Cowboys represent Cairns though and every other town in "North QLD" from just south of Mackay and up.

Nrl grant 17.5 million
Federal govt grant 20 to 25 million

total fc revenue 37.5 million to 42.5 million

add corporate revenue up to 5 millon pa

this club will be a powerhouse

no man’s land

but If the dogs get their new ground built there they will push into Campbelltown

What new ground are the Dogs pushing for ?

I don’t know if there is a Liverpool junior club…. but the Moorebank Rams play in the Canterbury League and that’s next suburb…

As long as the Tigers aren’t playing there

They came out with this but it’s bs

if the arlc invest in funding the new stadium the tigs may well play there

Like the tigers neglected Campbelltown and now the dogs are moving into Liverpool

they should’ve at least played some trial games there
The Cowboys have played numerous trail games in Cairns.

Barlow Park isn't suitable for more than a one off NRL game though.

Haha you’ve got no clue! The govt grant will likely go to the nrl, of which most of it will go to the png club as the grant. PNG aren’t getting $37-42mill in hand outs lol
with a png club being of virtually no value to the nrl in terms of revenue increase they arent just giving them $17mill from their bottom line.

Yeh I somehow doubt Cowboys fans are jumping ship in Cairns or Mackay because Cowboys don’t play enough trials there. When I was up there Cowboys did plenty in the areas outside of Townsville from Sarina up, they hardly neglect the area.

The Cairns mayor has been pushing this agenda for years, hardly representative of what the people want. If Cairns had an NRL standard 20k stadium Cowboys probably would play there more, but they don’t so why would the Cowboys who average 18k in a new stadium take anything other than a trial game to Barlow Park?

If the Cairns mayor expects more than that someone should tell him every regional city with a shit stadium isn’t entitled to professional sports games.

Nothing stopping png playing games at qcb

obviously cairns want a place at the big dance because they felt left out by a Townsville centric cowboys that paid them lip service

I fully expect the cowboys club to complain about this bid but it is what it is

PNG government is bid as well, They'd have some data to back it up.

The Easier way is to team up with Easts Tigers or the Bears.

Again though I don't see them being next up but whoever comes in next will have a solid business plan
