Any govt funding is a temporary sugar hit at best, surely we are all in agreement with that?

And noone here (of sane mind) believes that they Feds are giving the NRL $60M per annum to fund one team. Even if they did, we are a salary cap league, so it's not relevant.

What's the plan when the tap turns off?

Difference is after the money for the Storm finished they were a profit making org playing in a state of the art 30k stadium with multi millionaire owners, one of the biggest tv audiences in the NRL leading to Australian companies falling over themselves to sponsor them and a large active fanbase with the disposable income to spend big on memberships and merch. Can you honestly say any of those things are likely in ten years for a PNG club?

Maybe they can buy some pokie dens with the $600mill to keep them going post Govt money?

Storm only average 31k viewers in Melbourne. For every person watching the Storm in Melbourne there's three of four watching in Brisbane. It proves the game is dependent upon Brisbane and Sydney.

MRS was built because the Melbourne Victory were getting massive crowds.

You're supposed to be an "expansionist" who cares about Test football. We've got the Gov funding Test matches in the Pacific and helping the game grown in PNG. You want to destroy all of thst because it gets in the way of a whimsical Perth-based team.

You obviously don't have the inside knowledge that he has. The govt are going to fund the PNG team forever. It's never turning off.

Maybe it never runs out

just because a cowboys or Perth fan made something up doesn’t mean it’s true

You didnt answer the question, will PNG likely have any of these things when the money runs out that have made the Storm viable long term:

30k state of art stadium
large tv audience leading to large sponsorship portfolio
large active cashed up fanbase
They will have the same thing that is keeping the storm alive today

a grant of five million over the cap

and I know you like to make up make believe scenarios the money could be in perpetuity

600 million would be to build pathways from schoolboys to men’s and build the nrl club into the top levels of the nrl

Just imagine what 600 million could do for rugby league in Perth

its interesting reading comments on reddit about NRL expansion. Almost everyone on the NRL Reddit thinks PNG is a joke bid lol it's also a much bigger community than LU is these days.

I want to see a strong and sustainable RL growth in PNG, not some one hit wonder project destined to fail. If they were going to fund serious jnr development and a FT professional Digicell cup Id be over the moon. Its arse about face whats being proposed, a PNG club in Cairns FFS!, and is literally only being considered due to Govt largesse which is doomed to be short term.

He’s talking about Melbourne viewers not what they rate elsewhere
Melbourne deliver massive tv audiences, much more than many NSW clubs. Thats the value of a big city club people want to watch. Donkey has shown how a tv audience can be grown in a new market.

If you think the impact of the money is different then that’s hilarious
Its less the difference in short term impact of money, more so whats next at the end of that money.
Melbourne had all the things PNG wont have when the money runs out to keep it viable.

sigh, you do realise that the grant is just part of a $30-40mill revenue that is needed to run an NRL club dont you? Will PNG have the corporate and fan base revenue to survive post the Govt grant? ie between $15-20million in FC revenue?

ah one of your predictions again lol
If you’re going to be worried about the future of any club the storm are the ones that have storm clouds about them

the future of the nrl is teams with strong junior catchments and a squad of local talent

with the dolphins taking out the storms best source of juniors they are going to be a team of scraps competing with teams like Penrith

Quite literally 2 of the 3 most successful clubs in the last 20 years are not that lol
