PNG's back.

If wa govt invests ten percent of what png is getting solely for rugby league the Perth fanboys will all be saying they should get a team

it’s sad our game has such low standards in afl states

They're the sort of people who believe everyone should get an award. What they're advocating is affirmative action on steroids.

I think we're more likely see a third Perth-based AwFuL team [than an NRL licence being awarded to the Pirates].

The only financially stable afl expansion. clubs is the swans the rest are basketcases which are draining the afl

without super league the swans would be In the same boat

we literally have the example of a rival code whose expansion is in tatters

we should learn from their mistakes and do the exact opposite of what they did

putting teams in places which have zero interest in the sport then spending hundreds of millions trying to make it work is a stupid strategy

The PNG government supports the bid?

No shit, who doesn't support anyone spending other people's money.

That WA should spend $200M on a stadium for a non existent team?

How drug f**ked is that take?

Perth Rectangular Stadium has two tenants. Force have been based at the ground since 2010. Glory have been there since 1996. Only a simpleton would argue it doesn't have any tenants.

Lang Park was redeveloped when it had zero tenants. Reds and Strikers played at Ballymore. Broncos played at QEII.

Of all the expansion clubs, Swans were the only one that chose to set up base in Sydney. The Lions were forced to relocate. Giants and Suns were created by AwFuL for the sake of expansion. Swans are the only one that has been successful as a business..

I'm sure PNG are spending $200 mill on their stadium before they get a team too. Surely?

Yeh, apparently his logic is that the 20,500 stadium with 14,000 seats under cover, 400 open air corporate box seats and 15 enclosed corporate boxes, LED lighting, LED advertising, two big screens etc is somehow not NRL standard, but a 15k stadium with 3,000 seats under cover and ten corporate boxes is! Welcome to the fcked up logic of donkey lol

Part of PNG's admission to NRL should be they have to sort the stadium out to NRL standard

I think the AFL sees the bigger picture that they don't need their expansion clubs to be successful individually as businesses immediately. (Lions make a profit too actually)

But they see the value in that expansion ensuring the AFL is successful as a business, both financially (they eat NRL alive there) and in terms of other core objectives such as... actually growing the game.

AFL is now relevant in places it once wasn't. It's eating NRL alive in schools and regions around the country. We can sneer at it all we want but it's doing what it wants to do and doing it better than league, which is busy hopping around in circles shooting itself in one foot and then the other.

AwFuL has plenty of money to spend on expansion into Queensland and NSW. We don't have as much.

PNG doesn't need one. Their club will be the largest in the country and have unanimous support amongst all demogrqphics. Its finances will be provided by the Gov.

Perth will be competing with the Eagles, Dockers and Force for relevance in a hostile market.

Who will want to attend Perth Rectangular Stadium to see the Pirates when the Eagles are drawing three times as many people at Perth Stadium?

I know which team in Perth will draw more revenue from sponsorship, corporate hospitality, membership and ticketing.

I never said anything of the sort. You're scraping the bottom of the barrel because you've got nothing.

National Football Stadium in Port Moresby is not better than Perth Rectangular Stadium. The thing is it doesn't have to be.
