The worst case scenario is the ARLC has to foot the bill or revoke the licence. If they choose to foot the bill then the game will see a return on the investment. The players that will enter the NRL via the new pathways being established will be more than worth the cost. Test football will benefit from the development.

The game will never get a better opportunity to create a fourth tier one RL nation.

I’ve no problem at all with nrl footing the bill long term, I agree it would be a great investment. But they have been pretty clear up till now that a club has to stand on its own two feet. it would take a monumental policy backflip by nrlhq and the clubs for that to happen. Revoking the license would be a cluster f**k of monumental proportions. We’d be a laughing stock.

So In summary the two biggest proponents of this brain fart of an expansion idea are donkey who agrees it’s unlikely to be sustainable but at least we’ll have some players to show for the hundred million or so when it falls on its face, and Wb who thinks govt policy never changes and the money will keep flowing forever.

Exactly! And if nrl came out and said they are in it for the long haul and will fund png infinitum if need be then great. But like I’ve said that will take a monumental philosophical backflip from nrlhq and the clubs.
