Salty MF, no matter how much you toot your pessimistic horn, this is an excellent opportunity to take money from the govt, who were never ever going to give it back to the Australian public regardless of were you think it should be spent, and spend it on a sport we love, reward a country that has RL in thier forefront of their focus, rather than see it spent on the f**kwits that are sprucing up the gabba and the Tasmanian AFL team no one has asked for.. for all the whinging you do you cant see past the fact that we are getting this team and it will be useful, it doesn’t even have to be successfull, like a new team in perth or nz would need to be

It's a short term sugar hit at best, and then suddenly the NRL is left with a white elephant that has to be funded with zero increase in TV, gameday or sponsorship revenue.

That money is being spent on AFL regardless of this scenario, and they are all shit outcomes.

Anyone else find this a strange statement in the article? A few weeks ago Hill was saying how they will be a png team and playing all games in Port Moresby and will aim to be fulltime based there within 5 years to this:

“Barlow Park has hosted a number of high profile matches, but for regular content it would be pretty obvious to say it needed improvement if it is to attract a more permanent NRL tenant,” he said.

“Cairns is going to get a good chunk of money invested into Barlow. If invested right, it could put pressure on us to play more than one or two games.
