Haven't you said repeatedly that it's coming out of the existing aid budget? Like here

You want money for a 3rd world nation to be diverted to a professional sport.
This is correct, that money would never be coming back to aus shores regardless

How many kids in Australia go without clean drinking water? Why would you think I was suggesting it would be coming back to Australia?

Why do you think it's a good thing for aid money to be taken from people in a 3rd world country to be given to elite sportspeople?

I don't give a f**k what you think really, you just seem to want to throw a tantrum on every post, what happens to the foreign aid budget and how its spent is not something we can change, all we do is pay our taxes, you seem to think that the sum of 600 million dollars or whatever sum the Australian government decides to handover is magically going to change things, it won't. Once you start with handouts, it never stops, no matter what the sum is.
I don't care that a portion of that foreign aid money builds a team from scratch, it will eventually become self sufficient, you only have to look at the oil and mining companies in the region, besides it seems more of you are upset that this is a foreign 3rd world country getting a leg up rather than somewhere like Perth or Adelaide, who are simply not interested in the sport... i hope it goes well, I'm a believer that its a charitable concept, even with the Karen's here poking holes into every fibre of the bid

It is something we can have an opinion on though.
Its a fair discussion if foreign aid should be going to rich professional sportsmens salaries or to actually helping out the people of the country its intended for, especially when that country is missing the basics.

Theres also an argument that sport can be a great social change agent and that an NRl team and stronger schooling through Rl is a good thing for a developing nation.

A team full of mostly Australians and Kiwis living in cairns playing only 75% of games at best in Port Moresby may not be a great outcome for PNG though if the second position is your argument.

My main problem is its long term viability. Saying that when the money dries up we just take back their license and give it to someone else isnt a good enough outcome imo. If NRL was willing to bankroll this club forever more then Id be all for it, the idea is very exciting, if not somewhat ludicrous to have a developing nation in a top tier sports competition.

A fraction of that money creating a FT professional Digicell cup competition with games shown in Aus may be a better investment long term?

1 money won’t dry up
2. If it does they will already be a powerhouse

1.It will, its inevitable, and as a business case just saying 'it wont' is hardly a guarantee.
2. How? Unless they are allowed to take some of that money and invest it so they have ongoing revenue somehow then how will they be a powerhouse?

Their costs will be higher than any team, the stadium only holds 15k and most locals cant afford NRl ticket prices, how many people in PNG can afford a $170 jersey? Corporates, seemingly reliant on some mining companies showing some benevolence forever more. How exactLy will they be a powerhouse?

1. It’s not certain it ever runs out

2. The 600 million Invested will create pathways and build a sustainable club like the storm had

60 million pa in Aussie dollars is zillions in png currency

just imagine you have maybe 2 million males who could be nrl players in png

average wage now is 20 bucks pa
Or 300k as an nel player

And the png team will build a large corporate roster probably the biggest in the league

and they can still sell games to cairns if needs be

so many options

Its Govt funding, theres nothing as certain a sit wont last forever!

Pathways wont pay the bills, with a small stadium and an impoverished fanbase where's the ongoing revenue coming from?

lol PNg players will get the same wages as other NRL players, be it in Aus $'s or PNG currency

Thats some serious supposition, theres little evidence PNG is awash with rich corporate companies juts waiting to back a NRL club, not in the $7-10mill range at least. The stadium has very few corporate facilities for starters, where are they going to sell the boxes for this corporate support?

Lets be honest if what you are saying is true PNG would have been the faves for club 18, they werent even close until Abdo came along.
I wish NRL was more like AFL when it came to long term investing in growth but alas it isnt so long term financial viability remains the biggest issue for a PNG club imo.

Just google large Australian mining companies in png

the stadium is getting upgraded and it’s already on par with your dump of hbf park

300k to a png kid is like an Aussie earning 50 million pa

the money will transform pathways forever and obviously to the benefit of the whole game

you want the wa govt to invest 5 million on total in wa juniors

here we have a government investing 300 million. Plus in juniors and you are saying it’s a bad thing

give it up you’ve lost badly

No its not, there has been no stadium upgrade announcements at all.
Sure apart from the fact its 5k less capacity, has no cover and has even worse corporate facilities, which is saying something!

not if they move to Australia its not lol Besides whats your argument here? PNG NRL players wil get the same, club will have the same cap and will therefore need to earn the same revenue as other clubs

No ones arguing that point, though like most things when the money dries up so do the projects and initiatives

thatd be nice, whats your point?

Im not saying its a bad thing, beyond the argument about if it would be better spent giving kids the basics like clean water rather a rugby ball and a pair of boots. What Im saying is as far as an NRL club its not a sustainable thing

lost what? its not the schoolyard. I'd be all for PNG if the NRL had a long term strategy and willingness to fund it, but a quick cash grab, basing and playing a PNG team in Australia, lack of long term sustainability planning and pretending this is a great outcome for PNG, nah not the model I support.

From what I can see there's been over $100mill Aus tax money spent on "RL" in PNG over last decade. Has it transformed it?

So five million invested in wa juniors will magically transform how many wa nrl players will be produced but 600 million into a. Nation that actually loves rugby league won’t

never change buddy this is hilarious

WA is already producing more NRL players than PNG, despite all that money flowing into PNG over last decade.

No-ones arguing that this wont improve pathways and hopefully produce more PNG NRL players. Sht for $600mill it better do!! The question is what happens to the club when its gone? What's the business case for self sufficiency? Will they be an Australian based club forever playing more and more games in Cairns to make ends meet? Hows that good for PNG?

Andrew hill has already said the goal is to be based in png in five years

maybe reading the articles about the bid would help rather than just making up random negative points out of jealousy

png will be a powerhouse they aren’t going anywhere

Funny because this weeks article he has totally changed his tune and was talking about permanent tenants and more games in Cairns.
