PNG is done, and the lads are scrambling to pull shit out of thin air.

Living in a locked down compound ❌️
Millionaires getting tax free status ❌️
Federal government funding❌️

PNG is a developing country. There's no pretending otherwise. But unless you've been there, you don't really know what it's like. That area near the waterfront wouldn't be out of place in a town like Cairns. Where do you guys think all the civil servants and foreigners eat and stay? In shanties?

So PNG needs:

*government funding
*compound
* convince top players to move with tax free status
*upgrade stadium
*training facilities
* elite pathways....... etc.

So all of that will be done by 2027 or 2028? We are approaching the middle of 2024.

A lot of the criticism of PNG bid can be attributed to casual racism. PNG hunters have been playing in Aussie comp for 11 years!!

There's so much work to do in a short space of time.

Athletes village is the hardest one

everything else is normal for a new team

the nrl will need to convince not just the clubs but the rlpa

that’s where players concerns will get dealt with

We can't get players to move out of Bondi
living in compounds for work is not the craziest thing. It is definitely a tough choice, but for the right offer people will do it.

example: ive got a friend from a big4 consulting firm who moved from Sydney to Saudi Arabia with his same company.

he didnt get a pay rise, but they cover cost-of-living and he doesnt pay tax

he might save $10k/month. After 5 years, he could be looking at buying a house in Sydney without a mortgage.

as a deal, it definitely has some positives
We're talking about footballers here. Who like drinking, girls and the night life.
At best you're going to get the desperadoes that no one wants to sign.

A png side is a fantastic idea in its most literal sense. Reality is this is an unworkable idea.

Umm you realise that the Saudis are able to attract players because they don't have a salary cap right? They attracted players by offering hundreds of thousands more per week than European clubs were offering. PNG doesn't have that ability.

Im not talking soccer. Think of foreign mining or construction companies or any of the foreign businesses.

if the average nrl salary is $345k, those player are paying $130k in tax.

I think a lot of players would be willing to move to a tropical PNG resort for a $150k+ pay increase.

And if you dont like it when you try it, move back to aus for let money and let someone else try…

Not sure if you are referring to me as a casual racist or not, but having a PNG team in the NRL would require alot of work.

I'd love to see a PNG team in the NRL. That would be awesome. But how does that dream become a reality in 3 or 4 years from now?

With none of that govt funding coming this year either.

Tropical Island resort sounds nice but youre in a compound with the same people all year round. Not getting away from work.
