All sounds a bit Halliburton contractors and blackwater mercenaries living in the green zone.
Nah it was Aramco, the compound was in Riyadh which I guess is green zone. I went over when I was 17 and loved it. Use to get the car checked for bombs when going back into the compound. Rode quadbikes over massive dunes and saw locals race horses in their range rovers. All cool shit for a young bloke. Mum and little sister went over and didn't like it as much though lol.

No, not at all really. The season only runs 7 months and you're literally flying out every second weekend. They could easily give players a couple extra days onn those trips and even though the week.
Some players may actually prefer a more focused environment around their playing schedule as well.
Fair points. It's gonna need some great management to make it work and successful.

I've soured on PNG as a side but compound living isn't anything new. My old man spent 8 years in Saudi(most of it post 9/11) living in a compound because of the tax free carrot. Can easily see players going if its tax free. We're talking nearly double their contract.
Your old man isn't the same as 30 toey humans, their coaches, managers and assorted family living in a tiny area.

The players just went through similar living arrangements during Covid and they all hated it.

Who is building this compound also?

Imagine the optics of some rich footballer living next door to extreme poverty and crime.

Luckily for us it's not happening. No Australian government is going to survive one election cycle by giving the rich elite tax free status.

Mate, what do you think FIFO workers do all the time? Same thing with players not agreeing to a trade window when every other sport on the planet does it.

But I agree the tax free thing won't happen. Its a non starter from the electorate and the clubs.

Lots of people do it.

But it's about choice, they do it because they earn the sort of coin they can't working in Australia in their chosen profession.

Whose chosing Port Moresby over the 17 other options?

They are going pretty far down the process to then suddenly flip against it. It’s likely it is going to happen now whether we like it or not. It is the same as those claiming that despite V’Landys saying that Perth is on a hit list for expansion that it is all just a ruse.

People can only go by what it is said by parties rather than suggest that people aren’t meaning what they are saying.

honestly, every location has a different cost of living or other advantages/disadvantages.

if we are going to block that then bring in the draft. My Knights are at a disadvantage because no one wants to live in newcastle, we will need to fix that too

I agree Newcastle, Canberra and a few others are very unattractive relatively speaking but they are like Bondi compared to PNG.

The only real way a location like this could work is probably through a draft and a higher salary cup.

Did I miss something? What has been announced recently that's changed from a few days ago? (Which was basically a step back)

Do you mean the amount of reports indicating that it is going to be the next side(or at least the next two sides) is not enough for you to think that it is more possible than not? The best anybody can say, until it is actually announced, is whether it is likely, and you or I can only go by what is said. With that in mind, by the comments made by all parties, it would be more likely to happen than not (heck the act of even negotiating with the government) suggest that it is on the agenda.

I agree with you wholeheartedly in that I think it is a really really daft idea but you are saying that isn’t going to happen (i.e. 100% not going to happen). What evidence have you got that it is definitely not going to happen?
