WA govt won't care if its the Bears or the Pirates , as long as its a WA franchise. The NRL will see the value of the Bears brand , logo & colours being reborn again in a new team from Perth.

Some old Bears fans will get along to away games they play in Sydney & elsewhere , might even buy memberships etc

How many old Bears fans are likely to still be left and passionate enough to attend games?
Considering it’s been almost 25 years since they were in the comp and they only averaged 8-11k home attendance in their last couple of years.

I know its just to get some coin from the Govt but NRL would be much better investing in the digicell cup and jnr comps, a second PNG QRL club and supporting scholarship program's for PNG players to join NRL clubs. Whilst its an arbitrary argument the need for greater participation and player development if we are to increase teams should be the NRL's priority.

If the NRL decided to put $10mill a year into NRLWA instead of paying a grant for an NRL club I'd be more than happy.

Difference being Perth will bring them revenue, PNG wont beyond whatever Govt of the day is willing to stump up. Perth wont need to be based in a totall different country, and however hard it will be to attract players to Perth it'll still be a damn site easier than getting anyone to sign for Pacifika.

Depends on how much, and for how long.
I can’t imagine there being too many commercial opportunities in the region so it will need to be FAT indeed.

That will cover cost of the club, but thats not helping close the $150mill gap with AFL. To do that needs Australian metro city reach and new markets that will get Australian tv excitied. Games in PNG/NZ wont be doing that.
