Exchange Hand for Kyle Flannagan on a 3-year deal, Let both Flannagan and Sullivan fight it out for the first-grade halfback/hooker spots.

Sign two top-grade props and David Fifita on a 3-year deal.

Sack Hook. Sign up Flannagan as our head coach on a 3-year deal.

This should do the trick for next season. Gives us a competitive forward pack and depth in both the hooker and halfback positions. Gives coach Flanagan the privilege to coach his son and maybe bring the best out of hime.

C'mon it is his managers doing the negotiating not him
Wants wrong with wanting to play under a certain coach who prefers him in his preferred spot where he gets paid more.
No one is holding the club to ransom. The manager trying to get things for his players way.
Besides the club said no.
ok fair enough, but if you were Ben Hunt what would you tell your managers you want and what would you prefer. Ben could always say, I feel I owe this club something, I'm willing to accept the offer and I'm willing to play 9 and it doesnt matter who the coach is, what matters is " the Team " and what is best !!! $700k is still great money regardless plus still next year on a Mill, the final decision rests with him, you didnt hear his manager or him complain what sort of money he came to the Dragons for.

Adam Reynolds is rumoured to be on about 800k at the Broncos and similar age to Hunt. I would have Adam well before Hunt as he manages games much better, is arguably the best tactical kicker in the game, makes players around him better, is a cool head and kicks goals for fun. So for the similar dollars being talked, I would choose Reynolds every time over Hunt. It's not as if we are losing a premiership winning half back if Hunt doesn't agree to the clubs offer. We always have Bud as an option who everyone says could turn out to be our long term solution.
Spot on,
Hunt is a good player coming end of his career, reynolds and 4-5 other halfbacks are actually superior to Hunt. Its not hard to be saints best player. We have actually acheived nothing with him at the club. Reynolds would have been a much better option and still is. Its easy to lead the dally M if no other saints players will take any points away from him, and 1 good season in 5 on massive overs is not a great outcome

The real world is
Managers encourage their clients what to say and what to go for
That is their job

Fafita, Fafita, Fafita - i want his fita fa from the Dragons. We are not the Sharks retirement home.
Sign two top grade props - who/where??
There is very little quality forwards available to sign.
I dread to think who we will sign to use up our cap?

You're right-we are not the Shark's retirement home. We are the official Donkey's retirement home.

Ben Hunt situation is cut and dry.

He will probably win Dally M. He has been outstanding this year. Without him we finish bottom this year. Same as last year.

If he wants to sign on with a big cut and consider playing where is best for the team than you keep him.

We are not winning a premiership in the next two years, so failing him taking a pay cut like players do to stay on at good clubs, you move Sullivan to 7 and say good bye Ben. It might mean initially finishing near a spoon but so be it. It's a big call by the club but the right one so long as Sul stays fit.

Of course we then need the right coach but the building for future success needs to start now.

If Hunt is as content with the club he says he is then he will stay, but something tells me he is full of it like many of the other players to have pulled the jersey on.

Spot on. Very similar to what I was going to post. Keeping Hunt on big money definitely won't lead us to a top 4 (or very likely, top 8) finish over the next few years but will restrict our ability to rebuild a team from both a playing opportunity (i.e. Sullivan) and financial point of view.
What is the upside of keeping Hunt, finishing 10th-12th as opposed 16th over the next couple of season.
What is the upside of letting him go - letting a young half to develop and build a partnership with another young 5/8. Furthermore, have more cap space to buy talented young or mid career players in positions we have gaps. So with the right coach and smart recruitment we can potentially build a top 4 side in a few years time.

Well I suggested $550k - $600k for the man , the Dragons went for $700k ( if the media reports can be believed ? ), still good money for a player reaching the end of his career .

The fact is that Ben is not going to win the Dragons a premiership , we need the young guns to cement their places in the top grade and work our way up from there - with or without our $700k man .

managers may encourage but the final decision rests with the player, as james graham said he should do the selfless thing, he has been on a good wicket for the last years and next year without being of no benefit to the dragons, i dont blame hunt totally as we havent had the cattle around him either, but unfortunately they are the facts.
