Poor Ben Hunt

Does everyone think Ben Hunt is the 1st player or captain to have a chat to other clubs we are done for the year but we have Lattrell Cam Munster all having a chat to Redcliffe so the papers say and both these players are big chances of winning a G F so whats worse . remember just because its in the paper doesnt make it true.
Gould may have said he met with Hunt but was there any indication as to what it was about?

you know one thing I'm really sick of hearing is the catch phrase " I have to do what is right for my family and earn as much as I can" . Pulling at heart strings doesn't cut it with me anymore when you have been a million dollar player for multiple years and close to a million for the rest apart from maybe when you first started. You are earning a salary that us mere mortals would have to work a lifetime to even get 30% of what these guys earn. I would suggest that if you havent been looking after your family when you have been on these multi million dollar deals, then you need to either change your manager or get some really good financial advice, but stop feeding us this crap. I'm all for young fella's doing the best they can early in their career to set themselves up, and if you make it well done and good luck to you, at that point you are on your own and between you and your manager should have the knowledge to look after yourself in the latter years. Dont get me wrong I dont like clubs trying to extort players either but when its a fair deal and you are trying to manipulate and put unrealistic demands on the club, then leave and find greener pastures somewhere else.

Agree Justa, I also hate when they say they only have a small timeframe to earn their money before they retire. Well if you earn say an average of $300k over a 10 year career, that's obviously $3m. Life doesn't stop when you stop playing league. You can join the workforce like the rest of us plebs and still earn money. You don't have a right to be fully retired and financially secure by your mid 30s just because you played in the NRL or any other elite sport.

Absolutely Trifili, I give you the example of Jason Nightingale, always gave 100%, never complained about money contracts etc, loved the club and the fans, was nowhere near the money Hunt is on but yet is thoroughly enjoying life with his businesses after league. Give me Nighty every day of the week over some of these mercenaries that think they are entitled to everything, or even a Lance Thompson, RIP.

Justa , agree 100%.. If you have to take a job at age 30 like the rest of us fair enough. and if you have earnt say even 600 000 in your career ( 4 years at 150k ) then your still doing pretty good . I remember when Bmoz went to dogs on a reported 600 , 000 a year . At that stage i was earning 60 a year and putting in 50 plus hours . remember commenting to work mates takees me 10 years to earn what he does in a year , he also loves his job , gets educated , dietician for health and other benefits ,,, so yes they may lose their perfect job but how many of us can stay in 1 job entire career . If they choose to waste their hard earned its their fault and they can drive forklifts or be couriers like a lot of ex players do

Ben was pretty crap yesterday , no Dally M points I suspect
Maybe he is realising he isnt going to get a big pay day 24-25 and maybe he also knows Hook is gone either next year or at best the year after
More and more media talk of significant unrest at Dragons
Even with a win yesterday we were absolute rubbish against probably the worst team in the comp, that says it all

There will be some pain initially with Sullivan but Bens not going to even take us to the finals with Hook in charge
Im happy to tell Ben 23 is your last and good luck, play Sullivan at Hooker for a while , it should improve his defence and can switch them around Hunt/Sullivan between Hooker and half thru the games and see how he goes

Exactly Trifili that's life and even the really rich still like to work by choice to keep the brain cells active and for social contact. They have got to be very grateful that they are able to earn good money for as long as their careers can last.

I'm guessing that quite a few of the players are studying and doing tertiary courses to be able to do stuff after footie life. Others, become assistant coaches, trainers, coaches, fitness guys, broadcasters, journalists. So much available to do, just gotta go for it because life doesn't stop in your mid 30's.

Totally agree Dave, I do get that early on in the League years life was pretty horrendous for a footy player, not much money, bad behavioural standards, I get that, but these days there is so much support around life after footy that no-one really should have a drama, educational degree's just for starters. If you have fritted your money away these days with really poor judgement i guess there is only one person to blame.

Yeah hunt said that in the presser, it wasnt much really, and as for Su'a well if you said that mate, that you are frustrated after a poor performance for one year, try being a supporter and dealing with it for 10-12 years, at least you are getting paid for your frustrations !!! pull your head in !!!

It's Business these days, if he can jag a contract which helps him retire early or not to have to work a normal job after footy good on him, i would do the same, if im getting $700k from Dragons and Dogs offer me $1m Woof Woof where do i sign, any teams that offers the $1m i would sign for.

You are right, of course. It is a business, and you can't blame players when they try and earn the most they can while playing football.

I suppose it is why us fans will look back and appreciate a player like Jason Nightingale, who gave his all for one club and was rewarded with success, while Ben Hunt will be considered an ok player but not with any fondness.

Then again, if I'm paid $1 million per year, I could put up with not even being remembered!!!

I can’t really blame Sua.

If I had to play edge back row in our awful attacking and defensive structures, I’d be fielding offers to get out too.
