Wow, Gallop's job is to talk up league, which he is simply doing by acknowledging MJ's new show.

9/Burn's job is to look after 9's interests. Just because they are the free-to-air broadcaster doesn't mean they should get a monopoly against other channels taking an interest in league and running talk shows about it! If anything that will just parlay back into ratings for 9's game broadcasts?

Maybe the leash around Gallop's neck has been loosened with the commission seeming more likely by the day.

He might be asserting his role as CEO without some of the restrictions he has had to deal with in the past. Very good signs. I only hope he doesn't make a mess of it and burn too many bridges in the process. Mind you, money speaks in TV more than loyalty or past disagrements.

The NRL is the only thing in winter that helps Ch 9 match Ch 7's ratings on Friday nights and Sunday arvo's.
If Ch 9 want to drop the NRL, then they will get a hammering in the ratings....I don't think this will hurt negotiations at all.

seems a bit strange, whats the time slot? would be silly to go at 7:30pm head to head with NRL on fox or the Origins mid season.

I hate 9's presentation, I hate the graphics they use, the commentry, the ads, it feels really amature. Id rather it went to a different station.

I can't believe the nerve of ch9 to become infuriated at the NRL for supporting an NRL show on another channel.

Do they really expect the NRL to boycott all NRL promotion if it's not on ch9? It's almost unbelievable.

Ch9 seemed to have no problem supporting AFL even though they don't have the rights.

and don't forget it wasn't that long ago that 9 showed the AFL Footy Show in NSW and Queensland on 9HD on Thursdays at 9:30pm

So NRL fans with HD TV's had to watch NRL Footy Show on the SD channel

9 have shown where their loyalty lies and it's not with Rugby League!

It's a good thing he's showing some balls. It's not like they're not gunna bid for the rights - their jobs depend on it.

Nine handl;ed the Matt Johns issue is a grubby and spiteful manner. Now Gyngel wants to drop Gallop in it for the decision to sack Johns, when apparently he merely opined to Gyngel his thoughts.

Trouble for Gallop - and ultimately C7 - is that MJ apparently has no love for Gallop after his sacking. I'm guessing that Nine let Gallop take more credit for MJ's sacking than is deserved. It just shows how badly the whole situation was handled.

FFrom Gallop's view, Gyngels comments, plus his treatment from Gus Gould, would have them dropping down his christmas card list. I do know that a bitter bidding war will drive the price up. I also know that C9 has promoted the game a hell of a lot better than News Ltd has.

After the SL war and up until the last TV rights deal, wasn't 9 only giving the NRL 13 Million a season for the rights, and at some stages, weren't we only getting highlights on a Sunday?

News have always put all the games on and repeated them during the week plus had NRL specific shows during the week that actually talked footy didn't they?

Yeah we mightn't have got a sh*t load of money from them, but it was more than ch numpty was paying.

We don't even get HD games yet up here on WIN HD. The f#$king thing has been in a 'rebuilding phase' for the last 8 months, but even before that, we didnt get any games on the HD channel. I am sick of watching it in SD, I watched the replay of the all stars game on fox HD and I nearly blew my load, the difference is amazing.
