Post Match Function - Eels v Bulldogs

It's our home game, so I suspect it won't be for all games at other teams grounds.

It's a Sunday arvo game, just happens to be at Homebush. Good that the club is sticking to what they started mid last year with the return of after game functions on Sundays, even when our home ground venue is not Parra.

The Homebush Eels just aren't the same.

It's a pity we piss away the Sunday home games. Why not move the TV games on Friday or Saturday night, rather than Sunday arvo?

Giving away your home advantage is not worth it.

Agree. But I'm guessing the clubs get no say in it, and Ch9/Foxtel set each weekend's playing times. Hopefully that will all change when the NRL negotiates the next/new TV rights deal - think that's in 2012?

All our ANZ games are the Sunday afternoon games. This is no fluke.

sh*ts me. I drive the family across Sydney to see the Eels play on Sundays - but I wont waste money on going to ANZ. Don't even bother taking free tickets to the place anymore.

The club obviously does have a choice and has chosen to give away Sunday afternoons.

Why any sporting team in the world would play home matches at an opponents home ground is beyond me.

as parra have won their last 4 games against the mutts at ANZ/Telstra, the mutts would probably have more to complain about parra moving their home games to ANZ. :D

I am sorry but that is plain wrong. Our Next game at ANZ which is a Parramatta home game is a Friday Night. The game before this one was St George was a Sunday afternoon, but the one before that was a Saturday 5:30 game.

Well that's your choice, I am a member at ANZ and can honestly say I think it is a magnificent venue.

No the club has no choice, The Club can choose a few things like weather they prefer to play a team at home or not, but every 2nd year that gets changed. The scheduling of the games is down purely to TV broadcasters and what games they think will draw the biggest ratings.

I can think of over 200,000 reasons.

Mark, what does it cost the club per game for the stadium, and what would be a ballpark average price per head be for supporters. Do you know the final figures on the crowd at the St George game, as that was a fair crowd. Mark lets say there were 20,000 people at the game the other night, and for argument sake lets say they paid $10 each, giving a $200,000 gate. Lets work out a maximum on ground costs, security, overheads, insurance, tax, catering etc. lets say that comes to $100,000? does that not leave the club 100k in pocket for one game. Your 200,000 reasons mate dont hold a candle to what the ground could produce for us, and supporters are close to the game, players actually have an atmosphere, and we have a home advantage. TV will go to any ground for a game, they just have a say in which game will be televised, not venue.
The one thing you may correct me on Mark is this, our ground sponsors dont get any value with us being at ANZ, or are there portable signs taken out there for each game? Mark the Stadium is a great ground for player and fan alike, its our home and we should be making it a graveyard for other teams, not flittering advantage away. Mark I think it was yourself who put forward in a post a few weeks ago, that last year 160,000 people attended the stadium over 10 games? not a bad average, and at $10 a head is 1.6 million dollars. What were the profit and loss on the ground last year Mark, do you have an idea, ballpark.

I dont know any of the figures, but I know for the Tigers, they would have to fill Leichhardt oval 3 times to get the same gate as the incentive they had to play at Homebush.

Is their deal similar to Parra's, and how many games at Homebush are they playing to receive that deal?

But is there more risk with the Parra Stadium numbers that we have to wear, while the $100k that we get from ANZ is guaranteed, regardless of how our team is performing or what the weather is like.

Ok lets keep everything the way it is, negative to any thought of pride and passion of our home ground, and play in empty olympic stadiums.

Judging by the Stadium annual report and knowing that we signed a new agreement with the stadium if 110,300 is the budget over 10 games at Parramatta would be $11,030 a game just for hiring the Stadium we have yet to include thing like corporate boxes or anything else which could see us paying something like $100,000 a game, before income and expenses on the Catering and Liquor.

The Final figure was 19,017. Now the Average Ticket cost is about $25 dollars if the stadium was full and everyone paid full price. Also remember you have to subtract from that the approximately 5 thousand or so Season Ticket Holders who get in for a greatly reduced cost per game. Still it would have been a nice little earner for the club, if we could get it every week we would never have to go to ANZ.

For a full house, you are right, we might come close to making $200,000, but what happens when we don't get a full house? What happens if we have to pay and not make a cent on a game?

Lets say for games of less that 10,000 people the club makes a loss, using your averages then yeah $100,000 is not helping the club, indeed it is making a loss and we have to spend money and take a punt to make that loss. Where as at ANZ Stadium we have no costs, plus the Money earned per game, plus I know from people at the Rabbitohs and the Bulldogs, if the crowd numbers go over a certain point, the clubs get profit sharing.

As to Atmosphere, I was at ANZ Stadium for our game against the Rabbitohs, I had my sports ears on. The sound coming from the Stands was awesome. The best I have heard from any game in a long time. Last weekends Dragons game came close but ANZ Stadium against the Rabbitohs gets the win.

BTW our Record at ANZ in 2008 wasn't to shabby, We played 5 and lost 2. Where as at Parramatta Stadium we played 10 and lost 5. So while those intangibles are there, we don't seem to be taking advantage of them any rate.

TV will go to any ground for a game, they just have a say in which game will be televised, not venue.

Yes, as far as I remember the are some portable signage for the areas that are visible, especially behind the in-goal. So again money for nothing for the Eels as the Stadium covers the costs involved with those hoardings. Sponsors Boxes are taken care of at ANZ and there are many more of them allowing for more sponsors to come on board, unlike Parramatta Stadium which is normally full.

Indeed TV will go to any ground but they get the choice of when the go to which ground.

Yeah no doubt it is a great ground, but we don't seem to win there even when we have that advantage, the crowd you mention at the top of this email, was predominately St George Illawarra Supporters. I strongly believe we will get will in advance of 20,857 (Parramatta Stadium Maximum) this Sunday because the venue is capable of holding more and has many more advantages for fans than Parramatta Stadium I am sorry to say.

No it was not me.

I have no Idea for the Profit/Loss in 2008, 2007's annual report sees the ground was 5,300,000 in the black after a 5,454,545 million dollar grant so in effect in 2007 they lost $150,000.

Interesting points mate, thanks.

To the nasty little fella whose post about me was just pulled by the administrator, please come out and tell everyone who you are. How about repeating what you said in public?? And yes Harry Hudson was a great friend of mine, and I was very proud to know him whilst he was alive. Why dont you start telling everyone how you are going to fix the club instead personally attacking individuals. Obviously out of ideas are we?
From memory you gave my old mate Harry a taste of your bravery also.

You're suggesting that it was a member of the current board or CEO ? Can you substantiate that claim 7's ?
