Do you think Yates has enough upside to make the effort of developing his weakenesses worth it?

Sigh, FFS...
I'm not the one supporting the move of Gutho to 6.

And to answer your question, I think Russell and Yates both have the potential to be solid first graders, but I watched Russell off the ball in last nights game and despite his running metres being what they were, there are a lot of fullback things he doesnt do naturally.

But that's just my opinion. You probably know better than anyone, given that if someone doesn't agree with your opinions you seem to get exasperated with them quite quickly.

This is why i dont get the club and the backups. Why wouldnt u have Russell playing Fb at nsw cup to give him experience and pick up things.

I only get exasperated when people question an opinion without stating theirs or an alternative. Thank you for (belatedly) putting some context to why you had even asked your earlier question. Having said that your earlier question seemed quite silly, for reasons provided in my response.

I agree that Russell isn't ready for NRL fullback in 2023, but that wasn't being discussed in the thread. It's about his potential to fill a gap at fullback in 2024 - which after a presumed year in the "first choice" 13 he'll be better placed to have learned the things he needs up close off Gutherson. Just as Hayne was learning those things about fuulback play while only a winger - Hayne hardly came as fully minted NRL fullback at the ready (which your question kind of implied should be the threshold for discussion Russell's possible futures).

We missed the boat on that late last year. And this year it's too late, because we don't have enough quality outside backs in the squad to afford Russell not being in the first grade line up somewhere.

Yates, Cini and Greig did well i thought, other youngsters looked ok but will definitely get better.

I'm concerned on the back up halves though, Rankin looks slow and old.

Just on Cini, the Fox commentators kept going on about how he didnt get a go last year, I could be wrong but I dont think he was allowed to be used because he wasnt in the top 30??

More importantly why did Wests Tigers let him go lol

Do you mean like the context of my original statement, that you then responded to?

Stop playing the man just because it makes you feel good.

Russell better learn how to make one on one tackles and how to follow the ball as it moves across the field or it wont matter how many tries we score.

I'm sure that's part of the development plan. It was something Jarryd Hayne had to learn when stepping up from being a winger back in the day too.

Russell reminds me of Edwards needs to learn to play fullback. Edwards was not that good when he first started for Penrith at fullback but developed.

Rankin isn't even in our NRL top 30 so he is basically just taking up a CUP spot until a Jnr comes up.

One thing I took away from the game was the kicking team should never get six again unless they actually come up with the ball. That one play where they showed several replays to see if it did whatever was a crap shoot way to get a repeat set.

Not playing the man... even with that original post and my reply, your question after that was a bit silly, you'd have to admit. I mean what was the other possible answer than to "of course" - unless you think the whole premise of junior teams and pre-NRL development is pointless?

Lumelume was decent and had alot of pace but we dont use our wingers that way
He got really involved early in sets and made some strong carries, and the guy I was sitting with made a comment about his pace off the mark when he scored his try... not something we have had an abundance of in recent times.

I was also impressed with the dig he had in defence and he made a couple of good hits that stood out for mine.

Besides the pace, i was impressed with the way he moved. It was like he wasn't trying
