I haven't always been a Mason fan but I think he has a good point about Packer. Until I read that article I honestly had no idea that Russell came to the club with existing issues- the stories id always heard about the guy was that he was a teenage prodigy and future captain material, so the assertion that his problems were swept under the carpet seems to have some basis. I'm still enormously disappointed that he went off the rails, because early in his career he really seed something special and really seemed passionate about the club,

Cleary and his staff were good at managing him, imo. It only seemed to be once Blues Clues took over that Packer began to go back off the rails. Of course, i'm only looking in from the outside, so could well be wrong.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the Warriors are close to signing St George and ex Bronco Gerard Beale. If so it looks like no J. Hoffman or Matai to fill the troublesome centre spot.

Beale would be a great pick up. Can cover 1-5 easily, has a good all round game rather than being one of those attacking or defensive specialists we love picking up.

If we are lucky enough to get Beale I would be very happy with our recruitment targets.

Sam Moa and Kassiano were good targets for the prop problem.

There is a critical difference between chasing people and being realistic about the fact that anyone good like Beale is a boon for the Warriors.

You can want Props and Hookers all you like, but if they aren't biting.....move along ....keeping improving areas where you can makes more sense than lamenting props.

I'd be ok with Beale as well. Good at NRL level. He's incredibly lucky to be playing test footy though.

Unless he's playing on the right wing, Beale is not an upgrade to any of our 1-5 (since Townsend at 6 - good news - means Tomkins at 1, and Laumape is a far superior centre). Even then with the Fish coming back, Fusitua & Kata coming through I don't think it's worth it. Signing a guy like Matai? Sure - that dude is a bonafide star and would definitely improve the team. Gerard Beale is a talented guy who never quite got there. And he simply does not have the defensive game to play inside Manu. Ngani Laumape does.

Some good news. At last

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/league/news/article.cfm?c_id=79&objectid=11341105

" Chad Townsend will be the first-choice Warriors five-eighth next season, after the Auckland club fended off recent approaches from NRL rivals for his services. "

"Cappy [McFadden] has already told Chad he will be the starting five-eighth for next season," Bell said. "That is something that has already been decided."

So... no new fullback
No pom at 6
TL to 14

so why was the Chad punted the last couple of games of the round ? he was streets ahead of Thomas.

Good question. I for one thought that he gave us a point of difference in attack. He also appeared to be working on his defensive frailties.

Yeah that's the big questions that Cappy has to answer for. I can honestly see our season ending quite differently had Chad stayed in that spot for the end of the season.

Good news to see the Chad as starting five-eight, the team lost it's way over the last month which may be just a coincidence when CT was dropped and TL was playing in the 6 jersey.

TL is a hooker, not a 5/8th, will be interesting to see what happens with TL OR friend off the bench or if they're grooming Havili
