$6.8m includes marquee and long serving player allowances.

I think the problem for 2017 is that a few contracts are back-ended. Mullo was reported as being on 550k a year, but it may have been structured as 400k (2014), 550k (2015), 700k (2017).

Akuila Uate 500
Chanel Mata'utia 175
Dane Gagai 575
Danny Levi 100
David Bhana 100
Jack Stockwell 175
Jaelen Feeney 100
Jake Mamo 250
Jarrod Mullen 550
Jeremy Smith 200
Joseph Tapine 130
Kade Snowden 400
Korbin Sims 350
Mickey Paea 200
Nathan Ross 100
Pat Mata'utia 125
Pauli Pauli 130
Robbie Rochow 200
Sam Mataora 100
Sione Mata'utia 450
Spare Cap Space 175
Tariq Sims 600
Trent Hodkinson 625
Tyler Randell 125
Tyrone Roberts 200
Adam Clydesdale 90

Taking a guess with Mamo, Rochow and a few others. Pretty sure the Matautia's get $750k a year between them...
And we've got 2 guys in the top 25 we're paying to play for other clubs.

Are you sure about that?

https://www.nrl.com/nrlhq/referencecentre/salarycap/tabid/10434/default.aspx

What players can earn outside the salary cap:

$600,000 - Marquee Player Allowance - any or all of the Top 25 players at each club can share in payments made by club sponsors seeking to use a player's intellectual property. These may be guaranteed in the playing contract by clubs.

$100,000 - Motor Vehicle Allowance – a maximum amount of five motor vehicles may be provided to players in the Top 25 outside of the salary cap. (Valued at $20,000 each).

Unlimited - Players can earn unlimited amounts from corporate sponsors who are not associated with the club and who do not use the game's intellectual property (no club logos, jerseys or emblems) provided these are pre-approved. These agreements may not be negotiated by the club as an incentive for a player to sign a contract, nor can they be guaranteed by the club.

Unlimited - Tertiary education fees, approved traineeships, medical insurance costs, relocation/temporary accommodation costs are not included in the cap but must be approved.

I think you are right about the 300K veteran allowance coming under the cap:

http://www.nrl.com/nrl-announces-salary-cap-changes/tabid/10874/newsid/78232/default.aspx

Chief Operating Officer Jim Doyle said the changes follow a comprehensive review of the salary cap rules involving consultation with clubs, players, player managers, corporate partners, fans, media and other stakeholders.

Mr Doyle said the changes, to take effect from 2015, will include:

• Making it easier for clubs to put long serving players into careers with those clubs as they approach the end of their playing days;

• Increasing the veteran player allowance by up to 50 per cent. This move recognises that clubs and players should be rewarded for long service. The allowance will now apply to players serving six years with a club (previously 8 years.) The allowance will be on a sliding scale with a maximum $250,000 per club in 2015 and $300,000 in 2016;

Freakin Tariq needs to earn his dollars this season.

Ah yes, forgot we are paying for Tyrone (thanks Wayne) and Clydesdale.

Thanks to Wayne also for his brain fart when signing Aku up for squillions.

How on earth is this team over the salary cap so bad one of our best players needs to take a pay cut to stay?

What an incompetent position...

Just on all the cap conversations here...I was just thinking about how much the NRL have now skewed the player market by the change from the under 23's to the NYC model and expectations now of unproven 20, 21 and 22 year olds?

As the old model had the blooding and development of up and coming kids serving their 'apprenticeship' through the ranks of the under 23's, the expectations and pay scales for those that had yet to prove their worth was based much more on their existing ability versus their speculated potential which is now what the market is being driven by to secure any potential talent that is yet to be fully proven (particularly by the way player managers are now negotiating).

Am I wrong or do others think this has had an impact on the how player market is now operating?
