Coming to a civil settlement doesn't mean they didn't belt the bloke, you're making it sound like paying him off erases the assault.

And civil settlements don't necessarily imply guilt either. It is entirely possible in this situation to pay a settlement just to avoid the disruption of at least one more trip to Arizona for court. That's what Burgess's lawyer said.

Innocent people can and do pay alleged victims too.

And the journalist who's leading the hunt is funnily enough a St Merge supporter...

and.....?

allegiances of the reporter shouldn't come into this, unless they have a vested interest in the case (eg they were a souths supporter)..

case in point for this is rothfield, anything cronulla based people always take with a grain of salt..

You're right, how could we all be so blind.
Burgess and Sutton are both innocent.
It's all a big misunderstanding..........
I'm sure they just paid him off to avoid another trip to Arizona.

Do the human race a favor and never ever reproduce BM.

If it was all nice and innocent then why didn't Souths tell the whole story?

From Richo's interview with Rothfield

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...-the-camels-back/story-fni3gki8-1227213828571

“When the charges were dropped, they accepted how we handled it and we moved on.
Why didn't they tell the NRL that the charges were only dropped because of the compensation paid to the bouncer?

“The decision to drop John Sutton was made by Michael Maguire and supported by the board but it wasn’t just about one incident in Arizona,” he said.

“What happened in Arizona was the straw that broke the camel’s back and Madge made the decision.

“You’ve got to accept the fact there were other reasons but it is all going to remain in-house.

“John was also fined. The charges were withdrawn. If it had become a criminal action we might have handled it differently. That’s all I’ll be saying on it.”
It only ceased to be a criminal matter when the bouncer was paid off. Surely the incident is still as serious after money changed hands as it was before?

Also does this mean that Souths have covered up other incidents involving Sutton?

IU incompetence in investigating the incident doesn't change the fact that Souths deliberately withheld information from the IU

Who would ever of thought that an off season featuring souffs as the premiers would be so enjoyable.

This gets better by the day and I for one am thoroughly enjoying this including the epic meltdown by souffs fans.

Scum of the league.

Has the game really reached a point where players need to be found guilty of a crime before the NRL will step in(unless you play for cronuilla)?

It's quite funny how you lot bang on about the nines like its an epic conquest.
Not once during 2014 did I ever hear a Cows fan mention that joke of a weekend

Lmao what do Souths have to do with the actions of an individual who has left the club? That's like saying Melbourne should compensate Souths for Auvaa because he committed his crime before starting preseason with Souths. Souths take on that punishment just as manly now deal with the actions of Luke

Shouldn't it just be a week off training? That's the way Souffs would do it.

Reality is, although my club has signed this merkin, both of them should get a good spell on the sidelines and a substantial fine. Whatever they get though, it will make Au'va look very lucky with his punishment (or lack thereof).

Haha very true. Though tbh the Cowboys fans are probably better behaved on these forums than most teams set of fans.

Sigh now the hysteria over coming to a settlement. Why does that make it somehow worse? If the alleged victim is satisfied why isn't that enough. It was only a misdemeanor, even if proven it was never going to be a severe punishment.

And on a lighter note:

Cop: "Where are you from" "Australia, brah!"

Legends.
