He has contributed guitars to at least one track for this G'n'R Chinese Democracy album, but Axl has gone through literally dozens of songs in the making process for the album (which I don't even think has been finished yet has it?), so it's a track that may not have been completed, and even if it has, whether it'll make it to the album or not ... who knows!

Last I heard, Chinese Democracy was supposed to be released in March / April, but that was a while ago I read that.

Axl is a perfectionist, wouldn't be surprised if he decided to re-record all the songs again.

There are plenty...... Freddie had a great voice, no question, he was one of the best, but RJD, Hawkins, Bruce Dickinson and Axl i reckon have his measure, those blokes have range outta this world, however none of them are showman which what also reiterated the point of Freddie being a great front man.
Axl has the range of a dinner plate RJ

with all due respect to Axel I think Freddy was by far superior singer.

Axel could nail the rock thang
...but freddy could do it all.

Freddy, for a long time, and it may still be the case, was recorded to have sung the highest ever note by a male.

And when you listen to Crazy Little Thing called Love, you can hear Freddie singing quite low as well.

Axl could beat it, his sh*t is high, RJD has more overall range then both singers. Boooo at Unit!

Axl's voice sounds like Tommy Raudonikis after a night on the turps and gaspers.

I got nothing against Axl at all, quite like a lot of his work with gunners, but c'mon RJ, any person with functional hearing can quite easily tell that Freddie's voice was better, his range far exceeded that of probably almost all other male vocalists, past and present.

Just because you're jealous he never gave your oil well a good drilling is a good enough reason to make these outlandish claims. ;-)

After some digging around in my music books at home I found the following:

"Freddie Mercury possessed possibly the greatest vocal range a male vocalist has ever produced, his recorded range alone reached four octaves." I highly doubt you can list anymore than 5 male vocalists who can top that. Axl can handle about 4 notes, throaty high raspy, raspy, growly, deep raspy

Biographer David Bret described Mercury's voice as "escalating within a few bars from a deep, throaty rock-growl to tender, vibrant tenor, then on to a high-pitched, almost perfect coloratura, pure and crystalline in the upper reaches."

The big O had a similar range.....freakish for a man.

And yet RJ believes Axl Rose has a range not only comparable, but bigger than the big O and the big homO

tell him he's dreaming!

Freddie didn't even have the highest reachable pitch within Queen itself. Roger Taylor could actually reach higher notes. But yes, Freddie has reportedly one of the widest vocal ranges recorded.

One of Freddie's solo albums was an operatic album ('Barcelona') he did with a Spanish singer Monserrat Caballe. He wrote the songs and sung them initially to show her what he was after (he recorded both his parts and her parts). She listened to him, and believed that his natural tone was in the lower end of the scale. She encouraged Freddie to sing songs on this album in this lower tone, so he did for the most part.

If you listen to this album -and in particular songs like 'The Fallen Priest' and the song that became 'Ensueno' ('Exercises In Free Love')- you can hear Freddie's deep vocals.

There is a website somewhere where someone has measured Freddie's vocal pitches and can tell you exactly how high and low he reached in any recorded tracks, both in normal range and in falsetto.

Roger only managed that for about 8 years though, after that he was only able to sing the lower pitched notes. Now he sounds like Rod Stewart lol.

Freddie reached some very high notes in Bohemian Rhapsody and Under Pressure to new just two off the top of my head.

Yeah, but Roger has always sounded like Rod Stewart! But yes, I agree, he hasn't been able to hit those heights since he was a much younger man.

That inclining vocal run just before the 'Insanity runs, Under pressure we're cracking' line in 'Under Pressure' came to my mind as well for the pitch Freddie reaches at the top end of this run, but I have a feeling (from what I can remember of that website that worked out Freddie's highest and lowest recorded pitches) it was 'Somebody To Love' that had the highest pitch he reached of any recorded vocals ... probably the bit towards the end (around the 4min32sec mark).

I've just found that website again (http://www.f-mercury.com.ar/eng_characteristics.htm) for those who are interested.

Oh dear Ron, all that respect you gained in my eyes for your love of c**k rock is quickly slipping away in one thread ....

Freddie is and always will be the king.

And although I love Gunners and Axl, Freddie could also write an album in less than 10 years.
