My favourite part of Peter is, he does not give two craps about VFL and what they do.

If he looks elsewhere, it is successful sports like EPL, NFL, NBA etc, who cares what a game that never gained a grip anywhere but 3 small population places here.

They are not successful, who cares what they do?

Not Peter.

Now EPL, NFL and NBA will be asking us how we did it.

The AFL starts two weeks after us, when's their reduction in broadcast monies being done and the extension with Fox. I guess it will be over the next two weeks.
It's a massive difference and they are following us, no way AFL starts so soon if NRL didn't lead the way. Let's just see how AFL goes, they are still talking pie in the sky stuff which means they are still unsure, not like Vlandys.

Agreed they are talking about stuff we spoke about weeks ago, and it's always great to stick the two fingered salute up at them.

What is interesting and will be telling in the end is the deal they do with their broadcasters, all I could find is they are working on extending both deals to 2024.

LOl...you should be Pete's PR man, rally 'round the flag boys.

Really ,facts upset you. The game will be up and running in 4 days, and all you can do is whine.FYI others were involved in getting it up including those on Apollo For me wouldn't have mattered who was in charge of the game, getting it to this stage is worthy of praise.

Or do you like dicing with Tv deals hoping the uncertain future will give a better result? Sounds like you think what is happening around the world, is just a bad dream. PR mentality alive and well.

they announced a 17-game season before the actual season began. You'd think they've nutted out all that shit, considering they're now discussing the schedule.

I laugh when people say they did it without changing the fabric of their game like NRL did yet played with 16 minute quarters and are talking about a night grand final.

why doesn't he become executive chairman so he can continue what he's doing for the longer term?

i think folks here don't quite understand the limitations all the other CEOs had in the role in comparison to Vlandys. All those CEOs reported to a board who set the strategic direction. The CEO had to implement it.

Vlandys is setting and implementing his own strategy. he is the board and the executive. f**k titles. just look at the way he's handling everything. there are also currently 2 vacancies on the board. another in Pearce he has charged as leading Project Apollo so that gets him out of the way. So he basically just needs sweet talk the other 4 into accepting his ideas, which isn't too hard considering the number 1 priority is getting the game restarted.

this is a dictatorship, and in tough times, an autocratic approach is probably the best way forward. little consultation, just do it.

it will be interesting to see if he can let go down the track.

My issue has NEVER been about the start date, it's ALWAYS been about what is happening with the digital arm and why V'landys rushed to extend the deal. So please stick to the facts of what I am saying.

It's my opinion, this is a forum my opinion is different to yours.

You keep whinging about my perceived "whinging"

How long have you followed the game?

I think it comes back to security for the game. Just because Corona is slowing here doesn't mean it it's slowing elsewhere in the world and the economic impact is predicted to be worse than the virus itself.

I am speaking specifically about the deal extension not the digital arm as I think that is jumping at shadows to a degree.

What's your opinion on the extension of the deal?

What is your opinion on what should be done with digital?

We dont know what the extension looks like, what we’ve conceded or won in the deal or what Ch9 have renegotiated on the remaining two years.
The three biggest issues and Measure of success or failure will be
$ amount
Scheduling
Digital control

So far Vlandys has promisec nrl clubs there’ll be no reduction, players there’ll be no reduction and the two state comps clubs there’ll be no reduction. Makes you wonder where the cuts that respond to both the reduced tv deal and the promised saving fund is going to come from doesn’t it?

I dont mind the extension with fox as long as the $’s are right. We won’t be ready to produce and sell our own content for some years yet and that money will give the nrl opportunity to keep moving that way. The massive thing is the digital arm. If we give that up it will be a massive step backwards to getting to that goal. Not to mention the profit it currently generates. IF Vlandys gives them the digital arm he will have sold the game down the river and back into the control of news ltd,
Ch9 I wouldn’t have give them a cut on 21&22 given they way they behaved towards the game. They signed a contract, tough if they can’t run their business properly.

I think long term security in a crisis is a good thing and I think working well with broadcasters makes us more attractive to all broadcasters.

If NRL tells 9 to get stuffed what do other networks think? NRL aren't friendly with broadcasters.

As far as digital arm goes I am unsure but the future should be NRL controlling it

Oh the Queen of naivety strikes again.

Sack them all? I did not say that princess, did I ... but...

Digital arm - Vlandys- chainsaw.

Bring it on!!!!!!

70 staff is f**king ridiculous. It'll make millions more when Pete removes half the wage bill.

Go Nev Power style and cut Toddy's largesse right out of head office.

The digital arm is a great place to start. Then get stuck into the rest.

haha, so we have a high functioning business unit with a high profit margin and, without knowing how integral those staff are to this success, you would have mass redundancies for no other logic than you think the number 70 is too high? Deary me.

I've included everything I know about what's happened. The digital probably won't know for another 48 hours when Tv deal is expected to be officially announced.

If it was only about the digital arm, why bag the other aspects of getting to where we are.
Why spend time complaining about the length of the Foxtel deal, when you seem to think perhaps a better deal could happen in 2023.Regardless of whether digital or not involved ,our code was stuffed financially if we sat by and waited.

The facts are ,you made it was not that big a deal, what V'Landys & Co had done, then you stated so what about the starting date. The starting date provides the code with 2 weeks where virtually no other sport is played in this country and around the world, an opportunity to show the code.

"Rushed to extend the deal'.How long have we been in isolation, how long since ch9 went ballistic and spat the dummy, how long since Project Apollo started and made 28th May starting day? Overnight? The negotiations have been dragged out, because at times like this everyone plays hard ball, to get the best deal.
Foxtel needs us no question, but there is a price where it becomes uneconomic .They are in big debt.

All my posts here have been based on facts from various media sources ,including the ABC(listen to today's Offsiders replay). All my comments are publicly known ,not something I made up.

Memo, if it's only about digital and nothing else ,make it clear that is the case in your earlier posts.I'm as much in the dark about digital as anyone.Just say then, you were only concerned about digital.

How many times do I have to say this, I'm bagging the fact that V'landys has clearly worked with News Ltd, take away the pandemic. The same thing would have happened, Greenberg gone, News Ltd back in the box seat telling us what to do. When I see reports that Lachlan Murdoch can tell us we can have another team in Brisbane that is a concern. When I see V'landys has council with Murdoch that is a concern.

I don't think the code would have been stuffed it was always going to restart, necessity is the mother of invention. From a business side the broadcasters haven't wasted a crisis they have got a good deal for themselves.

Please stop labouring the point about the start date, it has never been an issue for me nor the revision of the deal. If need be do as the AFL will do and extend for a year or two, not 5. Why 5? It leaves me to think the digital arm will come under Fox in some capacity.

.

You have misunderstood my intention of that comment. It was in reference to the fact that being first over the AFL doesn't do anything financially or to deals etc. it's just bragging.

Whilst I love sticking it up AFL it's pointscoring at the end of the day, I'm sure you're mature enough to see that.

I think I have labour the digital point constantly (some may even call it whinging).

See I think like alot of people they have believed all the reporting in the mainstream media for the last few months. The agenda is clearly there just join the dots. Ask yourself what has there goal been from the outset.

See I actually believe if the media had left Dave Smith alone and he was still the NRL CEO he would have guided us through this quite effectively. But he didn't suit the News Ltd agenda.
