My issue has NEVER been about the start date, it's ALWAYS been about what is happening with the digital arm and why V'landys rushed to extend the deal. So please stick to the facts of what I am saying.
There are no facts about that though, you are jumping to conclusions.

I think I have labour the digital point constantly (some may even call it whinging).

See I think like alot of people they have believed all the reporting in the mainstream media for the last few months. The agenda is clearly there just join the dots. Ask yourself what has there goal been from the outset.

See I actually believe if the media had left Dave Smith alone and he was still the NRL CEO he would have guided us through this quite effectively. But he didn't suit the News Ltd agenda.
Would have been allot better off imo. One of the worst mistakes the NRL made

Now Pete is going to attempt to bring crowds back. If he achieves this he is a complete legend.

Any form of crowds by 1 July would be massive.

Never been a big fan, but he should be made an immortal if he can make that happen.

They're the game's biggest broadcaster, how could he not work with them?

In what world does the NRL tell News and 9 "get f**ked our way or the highway" while still receiving billions from them?

Fairyland? The North Pole? Easter Bunny's place?

The world where people forget that those two organisations are actually the customer

The way I see it, for the first time in a long time we have a lot of the general NRL fan base talking up the game and people are proud of what we've achieved by the administration leading the way. This is a huge positive.

Whether or not people liked what Greenberg and previous administrations achieved, one thing is certain - the game was plagued by a lot of negative talk. How the fan base is feeling about the game should absolutely be in the top 3 KPIs each year. Fair to say we've failed that for a while, but things are currently on the up. No fans, no game is the right call.

Will be interesting to see how far PVL takes that fan first mentality.

This happens when the boss is reactionary, and led by social wankery and media pressure, and not pro-active.

Taking opinion from a girls touch footy side is Exhibit A.

The goodwill PVL is generating is something special, as you say...and long may it continue.

Well said
You could be critical if he'd had other media organisations banging on the door to buy the rights .
Simple fact there is no other
So you sit down & get the best deal you can from news & ch 9 .

No-one is telling them to get F'd. What I'm saying for the slow people at the back is renegotiate the current deal another 3 years.
Why negotiate an extra 5 years with News in such a hurry.

Again, fulfil the current deal, as they did with Nine. No need to extend until 2027.

But that's not what you said, at least that's not what I quoted.

For the confused one up the front, you said you bagged that he clearly worked with News Ltd. I'm curious to how any business gets done between companies without them working together.

You keep wanting to argue something we have no confirmation of let alone details. But if PVL reckons 5 instead of 3 I'm gonna guess he knows the score on sports tv rights, the NRL's position and multiple other factors a little better than you or I do.

My arguement is the fawning of the News Ltd press over V'landys which given their history on leaders of our game who have tried to be independent is not very good, now you'd have to agree there. I assume you have followed this sport for a long time, maybe not?

All of a sudden every News Ltd journo is singing from the same hymn sheet how V'landys is the new messiah. So yes you are correct I haven't been privy to sit in on meetings and conversations but I am joining the dots from months ago (forget the return to play) regarding the politics and broadcast deal.

From the Sydney Morning Herald
There’s been much debate about the future of the NRL digital operation in the latest broadcast renegotiation, but it appears the governing body has retained the streaming rights into the future. Foxtel and Nine had been agitating for change in fear of the code producing its own games in the future, but the NRL held firm.

‘‘Digital is unchanged, other than we are going to work with our two broadcast partners,’’ V’landys said. ‘‘We are not going into competition with them. There will be a content-sharing arrangement and we will promote the broadcasters. It’s a vehicle to complement the two broadcasters. It’s no good selling your lunch to them and then eating it yourself.’’
