The issue is the two weeks quarantine coming back and the quarantine (if any) in the UK. WC’s are nothing new.

If the players are willing to forego their 8 weeks holiday & drop it to 4 weeks like the rest of us, then this may not be an issue.

COVID is a good excuse to use but the RLPA’s enforcement of 8 weeks break under the guise of “player welfare” is what the issue really is.

They can organise player welfare breaks during Origin without it being an issue.

I should have been more specific. What role did Vlandy have? Was it a players ?
The clubs are the ones against the RLWC because it will eat into their pre-season. COVID-19 is just an excuse they're using to justify keeping their players wrapped in cotton wool during the rest break so they can train the shit out of them from week one of pre-season.

PVL should stand up and tell the clubs to bugger off.

The players should tell the clubs to bugger off! Be great to see a rebels "All Golds" side go and take part!
Vlandys is bowing to the clubs as he doesnt believe in international RL and this gives him a bot of a IOU on them, if it cant turn a quid he doesnt care. That's what you get of you put a gambling industry man in charge of RL. Its all about the money.

I'm sure the world cup will be a rousing success without Australia and New Zealand, a bit like opening a pub without selling alcohol or food.

Hell, the poms might even be a slight chance of winning it.

The Trump of the sporting world just continues to deliver for our game. Saint Peter is going to make rugba leg great again…in refurbished boutique stadiums in Sydney, without wasting any attention on rusted-on AFL states (Melbourne Storm, never heard of the f*ckers) or rusted-on soccer countries. No rugba leg is a conservative man’s game and we all know the most conservative state is NSW, with a gold standard government that is the envy of the socialist states of Australia. So NSW is where Saint Peter is going to spend his time and money on, because anything else would be considered progressive ugh.

The fact he didnt consult with the RLPA on the Covid issues and he even said that looking back that he should have.

Then he comes out and says that the NRL wont be sending players over to the world cup again without consulting the players or RLPA shows he doesnt have a clue or learn..

hey @Gourley's Socks ... Trust alls good with you mate.

You might need to update this. Namely Rapana>Sivo.

There may even be enough footage over the last month to make a sequel. Although as I'm not watching NRL games at the moment, you could always ask some others. perhaps always greenier could help out if needed. He's always watching.

Cheers.
I was definitely tempted to produce a sequel but given the way the game is being governed, it'd end up being a longer running franchise than Police Academy. And no one wanted or wants that.

The RLPA should tell the players they have their blessing to play in the RLWC and will take legal action against any club that stands in the way.

I think it will be he best RLWC in 50 or 60 years because there will be about four or five countries who can win it. Australian and New Zealand representatives who are eligible to play for Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and PNG will help those teams compete with England.

Seems Vlandys learnt absolutely nothing from the debacle of the rule changes and not consulting key stakeholders. I can see a major player revolt happening at some point if they keep getting treat like sht.

“Players were not consulted before Australia and New Zealand withdrew from the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, a director of the Rugby League Players' Association (RLPA) has said.
"The major reason given was player welfare but the body that represents the majority of players was not consulted."
"I was thoroughly disappointed [with the decision]," said Christian Welch, a Melbourne Storm and Queensland prop forward.
"Having had discussions with players, they were really excited about the opportunity to go to England and participate in the World Cup for their nation.

Vlandy got the NRL up running again, no thnaks to the QLD gov which wanted to stop it. Regarding the world cup- I think it's a good idea to let the other nations compete without super powers like Aust, and NZ. Even GB won't be a shoe-in! It's wide open for a new world champ?

more floggings.

the game has become a joke this season.
Given they have abandoned the head high crack down, no reserves and six agains have become as random as a roll of the dice (and now being counter balanced by blatant offside defences) its hard to know what is the main reason for all the lopsided games. It has turned into a sht show though and made most games boring this year. 66% of games so far this round have been blow outs.

On Vlandys he is doing a great job keeping the game running in extreme circumstances, fair play to him and the commision on that. Doesnt change that he is narcassistic myopic autocratic flat capper who will ultimately do more harm than good in all probablitly.

The thing that shits me is the whole "we have to make the game fast, entertaining, attacking with lots of points" - mantra.

No, it doesn't. I enjoy a hard-fought match with a scoreline of 16-10, than the shit that's being served up week-to-week at the moment.

You leave the game for a couple of weeks and find out rule interpretations have turned on its head when you come back to it. It's not the same f**king game week-to-week, let alone what it is compared to 2 years ago.

My interest is significantly waning, when it should be through the roof during these restrictions.

Granted, the bloke did a great job being first to get a professional sport back on during the initial hit of the pandemic. and that's a big one which gives him some grace and cancels out a few of the blunders he's presided over as well.

Thing is, that grace is wearing out, and hasn't done anything else that's been beneficial for the sport.

Nothing is ever black and white and his bull in a china shop approach has been useful during these crazy covid times, and he has progressed expansion further than anyone in a long time, all be it a half hearted expansion.
On the flip side his messing with the games rules, his 'the world is caving in' rhetoric over concussions, his antagonizing of non NRL states, his removal of all transparency in being able to measure how we are going by removing stats and revenue figures from annual report, his fixation with suburbia despite the evidence to the contrary, withdrawal from the RLWC etc are less appealing from a leader.

Vlandis was better off letting this round die on Saturday as the QLD govt intended, rather than push this shit forward as an excuse for a professional comp. As long as the money is coming in. Well done Petros!
