Without knowing his full history, that seems well over the top. 2 years imprisonment is the longest the local court can impose for a single offence, and to not give him 25% discount off that or to set a non-parole period is definitely an error.
Not giving him appeals bail is a bit of a dick move as well.
I think it is over the top for a non-premeditated / non king hit attack in comparison to other sentences.
Having said that, I'm certainly in favour of magistrates taking tougher stances on violence. Thing is the next bloke that does something similar will get a good behaviour bond .

He deserves everything he got he could of killed the fella when he stomped on his head. Also after he serves his time deport him back to New Zealand never to enter Australia again and make the kiwi government pay for his gaol time as well so he is not a burden on the aussie tax payer.
