The criticism of Madge for the way we played our football this year is a little unfair. At the start of the year with ball playing backrowers on each edge and our first choice spine on the field we played some really attractive football. Injuries to Sutton, Stewart and Reynolds meant the game plan had to be simplified. We never got the consistency of personnel required to get back to the more expansive type of football we played in the first few rounds. The ball playing backrowers on each edge were key to the way we were going to operate this year. How many games did we play with both Stewart and Sutton in the backrow? It wouldn't of been all that many and that's were things went wrong.

I gotta agree with this post, and we still managed to beat the cowboys in Rd #23.

I think it's possible doyen will see it as an excuse.

Sths went in that night in Rd.23 up on the Cowboy's home ground knowing that they had to play with some flair & more open style to have any chance at all--& they did!!

It worked a treat. It's a pity they didn't have that mindset more often. Then they amazingly dropped away from that form within a week. GI was in top form at that stage.

When do we hear about signing Sam,Teo ,Taupau etc. it's seems to be a long time coming--it's about 2 wks since we were going to hear within one week!!

Grevsmuhl - Missed 3 games (22/25) Debuted this year
Tom - Missed 0 games (25/25)

Turner - Missed 19 games (6/25) Carried injuries
Gray - Missed 13 games (12/25) Debuted this year, Carried injuries
Lowe - Missed 11 games (14/25) Carried injuries
Carter - Missed 21 games (4/25) Mid-season signing

Olive - Missed 24 games (1/25) Debuted this year

Only 3 players played every game. A bench prop, a rookie winger and an in and out centre are hardly key players.

11 players carried some form of injury, whether it was ongoing each and every game or put them on the sideline.

5 players were suspended at some point of the year.

Weird how people can see things so differently
I thought the win over the Cowboys was a throwback to the aggressive bash and barge style that worked so well for us in the 2014 finals.
Auva came back and and made a nuisance of himself in attack.
Luke and keary were also playing with real aggression, luke getting a roll on out of dummy half
Guys like stewart and turner were stinging in defence.
Turner had his best running game since coming back.
But what won us that game was the twins. It was easily their best game of the season. And all.the did was run straight with aggression and purpose. Their bash and barge style of play left the Cowboys forwards on the floor, and enable the fast play the balls that had us playing a bit of attractive football.
It was getting the bash and barge perfected in that game that got us the win.

Unfortunately we no longer have the players to play that bash and barge style anymore. In 2014 it was down to Inglis, the twins, sam and teo that had us playing that style. With inglis getting older and injured and with a slightly different role in the team, plus ben and sam gone the whole bash and barge fell to the twins this year and it was to much. Both were targeted easily and both had runs of inconsistentsy through the year.
So hopefully maguire has something planned for next year.

This is all interesting but--

Sths commenced last season as premiers, world champions,9s champions, one of the favourites to win the p/ship in 2015.

This favouritism was based on Sths top rated squad & what most experts saw as superior depth----the depth that holds you in good stead when injuries strike!!
I would like to stress that we supposedly had good depth to cover injury.

Excuses can be made for our failures but the facts are that we were in extra good shape compared with most other teams when the season kicked off.Especially in the depth dept!!

Injuries true,we had them--like nearly every other team. eg the Panthers!

JT was on life-support for his last couple of games but he soldiered on & won the Clive Churchill Medal.

With our squad/depth for 2015 it is very hard to make excuses for an awful season.

Especially when the for/against is a 226 turnaround from 2014[226!!!!!!!].Surely it shouldn't have been anything close to that when one considers the strength of our club.

Yeah I tend to agree, when you look at that list theres no excuses, its not like we anybody out for the whole season, we had injuries but so did everybody else.Too many players did not step up when given opportunities in 2015 that cannot continue in 2016 if we are to be any chance.

There has been mention elsewhere of a cracker signing, don't know if it's BS or not.
