Raiders fury at Kiwi rorts - Wiki lured by 'illegal' offer?

Bit wrong (as usual) Misty. The player took a pay cut to keep Ashley Gilbert

Have you heard of Laurie Daley, Ricky Stuart and Glenn Lazarus who made the 1990 Kangaroo Tour?

Better than being run over by the Cartel from NSWRL,

Which player? I remember plenty of big names taking player cuts to keep Mal, even then they lost Gaffey, Barnhill and Lazarus.

Are you claiming that 3 players rep bonuses put the club over the cap? Like, they never allowed for that in their contract negotiations? Cutting it fine like that is the same as rorting. As if you couldn't predict that Daley, Stuart and Lazarus wouldn't make rep teams!

As for the last lame quote. LOL. How dare the NSWRL enforce their cap.

that's because it's already been mentioned in this thread 100 times over you idiot, the Raiders only went over the cap as they had winning bonuses added into the contracts of many players. It was these incentives and these incentives alone that put them over the cap, not the systematic cheating of the Warriors or Bulldogs. How many times does it need to be explained? Do we need to dumb it down for you ink?
I understand prefectly what happened with your dodgey club in the past.......you spineless grubs keep trying to justify it though, because it wasnt as bad as the dogs or warriors its OK?
At least theyre copping it on the chin unlike your weak as piss excuses.

Whenever there is a discussion about the Raiders, you always see the same opposition fans jump straight on board the anti-raiders train. Pathetic really.

Yep I do agree with Tigpie fans that indeed 89, 90 and 94 premierships were great in every aspect and that the best team won on the day, by playing hard but fair, on and off the field. And also agree that Wiki should be returned to Canberra on a league minumum and force the Warriors to continue to pay the dirty money to him, and to Ricky Stuart who'll hopefully be the Lime Green coach of 07. And also agree that they(Tigpie fans) should return to their rightful place for the past 17 or so years, as the cellar dwellers with Souths. Us Raiders fans who've enjoyed being perenially in the top 4-5 teams, are already starting to hate the fact that we've missed, what 2 semi finals series in the past 20 years?

i believe in our 25 year history we have only failed to make the semis on around 6 of those years... we've been spoilt by talent no doubt

wait for it guys...

"who won the premiership last year"

there you go guys, saved you the time of posting

still doesn't change the fact that your club is nothing but a heartless merger, and this year you will notice when prince pisses of to the goldcoast and you have trouble signing up the rest of your bradbury premiership team you will slide slowly back into the cellar where you rightfully belong :D

  Bradbury premiers, nice one!
But back to the topic at hand, at the time the Muss was obviously worried about his sister who'd gone missing. I can't blame him for leaving Canberra, as family is much bigger than sports.
Scott Prince, can back me up on that one :)

Yep well said Steven.

Are the people in charge of the Raiders now responsible for what happened in the early 90's? No.

Was Ruben Wiki brought to the Raiders using 'dodgy' money that put them over the cap? No.

Does the past in any way affect the rights and wrongs of this particular issue when looked at individually and objectively? No.

Does every whinging bitch on this forum fire up about the Raiders past and ruin threads that were discussing an interesting and controversial topic because they can't get past their f**king massively inflated ego and hate for the Raiders? Yes.

I'm far from anti Raiders.

I just find it funny how they are whinging about someone breaking the salary cap.

Maybe someone should ask Norths how they felt losing a GF opportunity to salary cap cheats.

The Clayton 1990 premiers are whining again.

The fact is, you lime c**ks CHEATED your way towards winning a title. The facts are in black and white and your boys only got a slap on the wrist. You are deadset lucky that the title was not handed to Penrith.

Good karma though....but, you have been paying dearly for years with your medicority.

Going by your logic, the Roosters were lucky the 2002 title was not handed to the Warriors

The reigning premier was the hardest hit, lumped with a fine of $150,000 for breaches of $75,000 in each of the past two seasons

http://www.thefanatics.com/category/News/34108147.html

That's a $75K breach the year they won the premiership... more than what the Raiders breached the cap by.

Look, Raiders management were stupid for writing the incentives into the contracts. It nearly cost us the team. But it is a completely different circumstance to systematically rorting the cap. The initial salaries, without the winning/rep bonuses were under the cap.

Misty, Every play in the club took a pay cut, to keep Ashley Gilbert for the 1991 season. At the end of the 1991 season, we lost Gaffey, Barnhill and Lazarus as well as other were forced to move on. If you have any information of some house extension at Mal’s place, please enlighten us.

I’m not claiming anything. I was answering your original question;
“Which players suddenly jetted to big rep careers in 1990”

Not to mention Belcher and Clyde who represented Australia a year before and Steve Walters in 1991,

Not as lame as you bringing up the Super League War at every opportunity Misty, considering your club benefited from it, 10 fold. Tell me Misty, how did Parramatta go over the salary cap in 1990 with roster that included Scott Mahon, Brian Jackson, Glen Liddiard, Andrew Leeds, Danny Crnkovich, Andrew Fitzhenry, Mark Laurie, Brett Kenny, Jason Bell, Mark Bugden, Mark Horo, Peter Sterling, Ian Gately, Joe Bartolo, Bill Greentree, Craig Izzard, Peter Johnston, Robert Muchmore, David Woods and Peter Wynn. How could you spend over the salary cap with roster like that Misty?

It is amazing that a club like Manly could conveniently buy two current International front rowers and be under the salary cap and do it all just before the NSWRL implement a player draft.

Why do you keep mentioning Super League Misty? Is it to justify Parramatta taking all those Bulldog and Shark players and why Parramatta had become so unpopular,

Pardon Me Wholly than thou Western Suburbs fans. I was wonder how Western Suburbs could purchased and introduced players to first grade like:
Jason Taylor, Jamie Ainscough, Graham Mackay, Bob Lindner, Ivan Henjak, Steve Jackson, Jim Dymock, Jason Lidden, Andrew Farrar, David Gillespie, Graeme Wynn, Darren Britt, Tony Rampling, Joe Thomas, Ron Gibbs,
In 1991, Western Suburbs were fined $40,000 for being over the cap. In 1992, Western Suburbs were fined $100,000 for being over the cap. Who was the club who helped get the draft over turned so they could get more star player to their club?
Then in 1992;
Mark Bell, Darren Willis, Terry Hill, Jason Alchin, Damien McGarry, Anthony Xuereb, Billy Noke and Kyle White………………..

The Canberra Raiders squeeled like stuck pigs when Easts approached Stuart and Clyde some years back, in fact some suggest that this was the reason superleague started. Yes the Raiders cheated in the early 90's when they won a couple of comps and yes they most probably would've lost some players had it not been for the bonuses that the players were paid. For Furner to carry on about Wiki is laughable, Canberra have never been backward in screwing the rules when it has suited them. My own opinion is that the salary cap should be scrapped. Why should the Roosters or any successfull club be held back because some clubs can't get their act together. Souths and Cronulla have been poorly managed for years so why should the Roosters or Canterbury or Parramatta or any club be penalised because of it. If a couple of clubs can't compete then so be it, that's business. The competition is not a charity. The comp thrived for 80 years without a salary cap and that was before the huge sponsorships that we see today. The salary cap is a restraint of trade and if it was challenged in a court of law it would be deemed illegal. It's time to get rid of it and let natural attrition take it's course.

By your definition, the Roosters also cheated in 2002 when they were over the cap by $75,000.

Oh, the hypocrisy is rank with this one.

The difference between Canberra and the Warriors and the Dogs is that it wasnt recruitment that lead to the cap been breached. Im not suprised a Rorters fan would be up in arms about a club wanting to keep the players it developed.
