ha .. to think Richmond got an additional 1600 members in one day when they signed druggo a few days back ...

.. which reminds me I should apply for my first Collingwood membership interstate package

baby steps mate
there is a culture in AFL, if you're a fan, you're a member, its just what is done. And the code is all the better for it... Leaguey's have never really embraced the membership culture, it's only just starting to dawn on people that their membership money is vital revenue. It'll take some years, probably decades before league has membership numbers like the AFL

Good to see 1600 people had genuine committment to their club.

Anyways, we got 400 new members in the last 2 days after signing absolutely nobody. :D

Have noticed membership is up to 2.7K ... I suspect we'll fall short of the 5K.

Would be interested to see how this compares with other NRL clubs.

Not sure what the bumbies will attract but it will be more than the Raiders ... discounting the fact that the bumbies have a recent history of success I can never understand how Canberrans are attracted to Union ... much like I cant understand how Canberrans generally vote Labor.

We Canberrans are an enigma wrapped in a riddle Bay. I could answer the Labor thing - but won't go there right now (other than to say it was the "conservative" capitalist greed that got us into this financial mess). ;-)

"conservative capitalist greed" .... :) :) .. good one Chachi.

I suspect that if we didnt have the libs in for 13 straight years we'd be in the real sh*te atm with the economic debacle surrounding us ... but I wont go into this right now :)

JH and PC worked long and hard to erase ALP debt and give the country an 11 odd billion dollar surplus, it's taken Rudd just a single year to erase that

what a twit.

And dont let any socialist twat tell you otherwise Nickster ... this country will ride through the current economic problems with far less pain than most other economies due to the platform that the previous government established over a 13 year period to rectify the problems of a union run socialist government.

Anyway enough of this .... we are now up to 2.9K membership ... I dont think we will get anywhere near the 5K target ...

... most of the regulars would have renewed by now ... if we allow for a 10% churn rate and a 10% natural increase and a 10% abnormal increase due to recent media advertising we are going to be lucky to reach 3.5K ... and quite frankly I think that is piss poor ...

... but that of course is only my opinion ... which a lot of people live by on this and other forums :)

Ye of little faith bay
we've still got 2.5 months before the season kicks off, i think we're on track to reach the 5k

we'll be above 3.5 by mid febuary :D, then a rush at the death by those who put it off and off and off will get us over the line :D

I dont think so Nick ... 5K is out of the question ... but again I repeat not out of the question for the bumbies.

Maybe a real successful season will give us those numbers in 2010.

IF we have a real successful year bay, our membership will double instantly, ignoring the real diehards like yourself, the canberra public are fickle and will jump on a winner in a big way, if we won the comp, our first home game in the next year, baring a snow storm would be a near sell out

 Gotta love that coalition! I might have to start calling you BayGuantanamo from now on. ;-)

I reckon we'll get around the 4,500 mark - ready to crack 6,000 in 2010 if we have a good season this year.

OK ...

Bay56 ... 3.5K
Chachi ... 4.5K
R69 ... 5K

Lets see who comes close to the final tally.

PS Chach I couldnt give a sh*te about Guantanamo ... I take the attitude that if looks like a duck and quacks like a duck I'll do what is required at the time and ask questions later ... but enough of this, we're discussing Raiders membership here !!! ... what's concerning me is the stock market atm which is pissing me off seeing the value of my wealth decline by the day.

:) :) :)

Nick the Canberra public are no more fickle than most other supporters.

The only club of any code that will get their supporters to games and buying merchandise irrespective of their position on the table are Collingwood fans ... like them or hate them they are the most passionate of supporters in Oz.

I guess the thing with Canberra is that there is a fairly limited population, but when you compare it to the sort of crowds some sydney teams get with a far greater population then we come out looking quite good. Brisbane is a one team city so there's no comparison and Newcastle don't have a rival code playing at the same time of the year.

I get the feeling that the Bumbies golden era has just passed. They might still be quite successful, but the hype of having a decent team while their code was getting good press is starting to die off.

If we can nudge a decent start this year without the negativity of coaching defections and star player misbehaviour then I think we may get some crowds pushing the 20,000 once again.

But, the proof will be in the pudding and we have to perform on the park first.
