Rank the Brisbane bids

I see it as a two horse race between the Dolphins and Jets.

Both have clearly defined regions they will represent, whereas the Firehawks are inner city hipsters.

In the perfect world both bids would be granted. Jets to draw their fan base from Logan/Ipswich/southern Brisbane suburbs and Dolphins from Moreton Bay/Sunshine Coast.

There would be zero support for rebranding the Titans. The Bears were fought against hard back in ‘17, and I can’t see it being any different again. Plus we are on the up and up, and this time with the right people running the show, there is no need to change anything. Finally, changing the colours would be the worst thing to do for a Coast club, the colours are exactly on point- sun, surf and sea- royal blue has nothing to do with our beautiful city!
The Titans logo is of a gladiator, like the Fortitude Valley Diehards. If they keep the name Titans then maybe they could make their logo a bit like the gladiator design of Valleys, then fund the Fortitude Valleys Diehards to play in the Queensland Cup. Having some sort of link with the Fortitude Valley area could bring money into the club. If it helps them pick up players and supporters in Brisbane then that's a bonus.

Or not do anything, I've always wanted them to incorporate a giant with the titan, to relfect both their beginnings aswell as their present

Maybe just add that diehard helmet

It's starting to make more sense now the Western Corridor & Bombers bids have coalesced into a strong single bid.

* Jets and Dolphins both don't impinge on Broncos and Titans territory
* NRL would need 2 expansion teams to create a 9th game, and income towards expansion.
* 2 new Queensland teams is logistically easier than 1 Brisbane and 1 Perth team.
* South-East Queensland would be sorted for a decent while, allowing the NRL to shift focus to expanding to Perth, NZ2, Adelaide etc.. whether that's new teams or relocations.

So Brisbane Jets takes in Ipswich, Brisbane Firehawks takes in Logan and Dolphins take in Moreton Bay?

Broncos are already on the western side of town with plenty of fans from Ipswich. Just change their name from Broncos to Western Brisbane Jets based at Red Hill and Leagues Clubs there and at Ipswich, add Southern Brisbane Firehawks with Leagues Clubs at Coorparoo and Logan, and the Northern Brisbane Dolphins based at Redcliffe. Then we can add Perth and NZ 2 around 2030 and have a 20 team competition.

Western Brisbane Jets. Green, gold and white.
Southern Brisbane Firehawks. Gold, blue and black.
Northern Brisbane Dolphins. Red, white and silver.

LOLOL the Broncos are the biggest Rugby League and Rugby club in the world, why would they rebrand to "Western Brisbane Jets". Go tell there CEO and shareholders, they will fall on floor laughing

It's genuinely amazing how quickly a bad idea can spread in an echo chamber.

Putting two extra teams in Brisbane is still just as dumb as it's always been, and for all the same reasons that it's always been dumb.

If you want two more clubs in Brisbane then you need to lower the amount in Sydney, otherwise you are putting to many eggs into to fewer baskets and restricting potential growth in other markets.
In other words another team in Brisbane means that somebody else has to miss out on a spot in the competition, and unless that group that misses out is from Sydney that means that an important large market is missing out so Brisbane can have 3 clubs, and there's simply no way that you can justify Brisbane having three over having a presence in places like Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Christchurch, etc.

If Brisbane, or anywhere else for that matter, gets three clubs without rationalisation of Sydney, I'll honestly give up on the NRL's hopes of being a commercial product that can compete with the AFL and international sports going forward into the future.

Yeah, because those morons are doing such a good job at running the club. All the resources and advantages in the world and they put together a team that runs last and hasn't won a premiership since 2006. A few years ago they had to get Easts Tigers to come in and save Broncos Leagues Club.

Brisbane is the world's 2nd largest RL city. Without it and its decorated history there wouldn't be State of Origin to promote the game into new markets. It has earnt the right to have 3 teams to make up for the loss of the 9 that gave way for the Broncos after 1987.

Perth deserves a team because it has actively grown RL from the bottom up by people who care about the game. NZ deserves a team because it produces so many RL players and needs one to grow the game in an RU dominated landscape.

I'd love for Adelaide to have one, but there's not enough interest at the grassroots level and its population is small compared to Brisbane and Perth. The lack of demand and limited commercial opportunities in Adelaide put it at the bottom of the pile until it grows its grassroots and becomes a bigger city. The best bet for Adelaide is relocation of a Sydney club, but that will require an ARLC throwing a massive amount of money at a club in financial stress to relocate on the basis it gives up all ties to Sydney.

Would you be willing to send the Raiders to Adelaide?

Adelaide is 3 times bigger than Canberra and a metropolitan area that's included in the 5 city TV ratings data, so logically it would make the Raiders more important to the NRL and broadcasters. They could always play 3 or 4 games a year in Canberra.

To be honest, that's the difference between what I'd *like* to happen (Firehawks & then Pirates) and what I *expect* to happen (Dolphins & then Jets).

To be honest, my hopes aren't high for anything but eastern seaboard expansion teams. Given the NRL's track record & V'Landys rhetoric, can you blame me?

Funny when A league expanded they brought in two new teams in Sydney & Melbourne. Not gold coast, Canberra or Wollongong. Each city now has 3 teams.
Big cities generate biggest audience, more sponsorships & rivalry.
Say what you will about Ipswich or Redcliffe but games against fellow qld teams will be big deal.
Who's watching Perth vs Gold Coast??

Bombers and Western Corridor were more than likely 3rd and 4th in the bids process. And with only about 4 mths until the successful Bid team is named, their only realistic option was to merge to remain viable. For starters Brisbane Jets (With hopefully a similar jersey to the Ipswich Jets) sounds a whole lot better than the god awful Brisbane Bombers moniker. Reading between the lines, it appears they are looking at a Springfield home/training base.

IF player depth was not an issue, a 20 team comp would be perfect. But it is an issue so this is just day dreaming.

2023-2025
•South Queensland Jets
•East Coast Dolphins

2030+
•West Coast Pirates
•NZ2, Melbourne2 or Adelaide

Rivalries created:
Jets vs Dolphins - instant cross town rivalry if brought in around the same time
Jets vs Broncos - new club In town vs old club
Jets vs Titans - Titans fans may see the Jets as a threat
Dolphins vs Broncos - new club in town vs old club
Dolphins vs Titans - south east qld
Dolphins vs Pirates - east coast vs west coast
Dolphins and Roosters - easts vs easts

In my opinion expansion to 20 teams is possible and desirable if it involves growing the game in NZ and the islands with a plan to take over Rugby's dominance (why not its a garbage game).
