Next up - Halfbacks.

I'm only going back as far as the early/mid 90's for these as thats as early as I remember as a young Sharks fan and 30 years seems a good spread.

Note below that games played is total number of games played for the Sharks and not the number of games played at Halfback.

How would you rank this lot specifically as Sharks Halfbacks?

PLAYERGAMES PLAYED
Paul Green95
Blaine Stanley28
Preston Campbell54
Brett Kimmorley140
Scotty F'n Porter22
Tim Smith19
Chad Townsend146
Jeff Robson92
Braydon Trindall42*
Nicho Hynes28*

I digress. Mitch Healy and Adam Dykes are missing from the list. I had a lot of time for both of them.
Dykesy did a great job filling in as half back when required and it was noted that halfback was his preferred position.

As for those listed, Nicho, Green and Preston are the standout natural talents, and we've seen glimpses of what Trindall can do when he's in a starting lineup.

Then I'd group Kimmorley, Chad and Jeff Robson as tryers, but nowhere near the natural talents of the above 3, Jeff Robson seemed to play well every second game, possibly because his body was no longer up to the week to week grind. Kimmorley lost his Mojo in 2005 after throwing that intercept pass in a State of Origin game and never seemed as sharp again.

That leaves Blaine, Scotty F and Tim Smith, fill ins at best, solid reserve graders.

Yeah Healy and Dykes will go into the 5/8 thread when that rolls around.

You'd have to have Noddy in a class above Chad and Robson for sure wouldn't you?

initially Kimmorley seemed like a real world beater, but the wheels seemed to fall off in mid 2005. Later on he had a high work rate but had lost his attacking nouse.

For me it's Preston noddy and greeny...

I'm excluding nicho at this stage but I think he will be the best by far soon

Preston
Hynes
Green
Kimmorley
Robson
Trindall
Porter
Smith
Stanley

Although with more game time I expect Trindall to climb the ranks quickly.

Kimmorley should be marked for his success as a field goal exponent in the dying moments of a game.

How many did he miss ? And, a lot of them were sitters.

Kimmorley was harshly judged, we had some dam average players around him at the time.
Yeah as he got all the money we had, could only afford so much help.

I appologise again Preston, for your treatment.

Did not work, Chad is the only Premeirship winner.

Greeny was a good little half.

The rest meh

Nicho and Braydon I find hard to judge until complete, cannot wait to see them together.

Still really pisses me off the way Preston was treated
I catch up mate who is a Sharks fan and this comes up each time. No matter how many times we catch up or what we talk about it always lands back on Preston and 01/02/03 Panthers what if. f**k.

In answering the original question

Nicho - Most dominant Shark I have seen.
Noddy - I didn't love him. I'd take Preston over him but he kept us in games for a long f**king time after Opes left and we had a shocking team. 05 origin ruined him. He was annoying as f**k. But he carried some really bad years.
Presto - Made me fall in love with the Sharks after heart break (99) plus coming from nowhere was insane.

Greeny I would say I am too young too appreciate. He is part of my early memories but I was a kid. I will give Chad credit for some good starts to seasons in 17, 18. Other than that he sucked. The rest you can't rate. Trindall especially as half those games have been from the bench.

Porter was epic in some of the 20s games I saw with Travis Burns. I thought they'd be legit. If you have seen Porter lately you need sunnies as he is a different shade of... I don't know what to call it.

Jeff Robson sucked before we signed him. When Sharkcast said "I see a repeat set and I go wow what a good play" I laughed and thought yeah because of 92 games of Robson kicking it dead.

I see Tim smith only 19 games, first thought was ‘that many’. I liked watching him at Parra, then when he joined us he was amazingly hot and cold. I could never work out when he was on his medication or off it. You never new what you were going to get. Just my thoughts. So.

Early nineties we still had Barry Russell running around. Another Rothman's medallist. He was a magic little dude
