BA said himself they could both have played but rested them because of the short turn around.

Could’ve played if it was, for example, a final. The club played it smart and rested them. It was the right decision. BA should’ve just said they’re out this week and not suggested they could’ve played.

I love David Gower - he is a true gentleman, and a great servant to this great club -, but he looked off the pace to me.

Utoikamanu looked a little pedestrian - slow, not particularly strong, or aggressive...I think we made the right call keeping Kaufusi over him. Mind you - I don't want to have a go at him; I know he's a rookie. But I would have expected more of a presence from him last night.

And RCG is simply not human - I hope games like last night demonstrate why I say he is probably more vital to us than Junior...he was unbelievable last night.
I honestly don’t think we are really losing a great deal with him going to Tigers!

Exactly. That would have worked for me:
"Matto desperately wanted to play and is furious with me for not picking him because he knows Manly are our mortal enemy and we desperately want to win this game but I have made a decision that he cannot play because his finger could have fallen off and he needs it for the Tigers game and the rest of the year"

Maybe BA gave Matto and Fergo the game off because they both needed an opportunity to clear their injuries before the run into the semi's. There are 10 games to go and both of them have played pretty much every minute of the season so far (Matto played only 75 mins against the Knights). These 2 are so important to our go forward on the right hand side, that if you wanted to make sure they were fresh for the second half of the comp, you do it against a side that might be a little underdone. Last nights loss doesn't ruin the season for us but it does hopefully bring Fergo and Matterson back into the squad without the niggling injuries they have.

Yep, our attack was similar to previous weeks without Moses but defence got us home. But tonight it was extremely poor for 15 mins.....

That’s what concerns me about BA as coach. We have a great track record of turning to absolute fairies when it matters. Was beginning to think we’re moving on from that, but not so sure. I guess a favourable draw may of given us false hope

In the grand scheme of things I agree with you. One win or loss doesn’t make a season. As I said last night, practicality wise if we are going to play poorly at least we did so when players can recover from injuries. But I think in hindsight:

BA should’ve just said they’re out this week and not suggested they could’ve played.
We all hope it doesn’t leak through to the performance on field but it did feel at the start of the match, we were there to not play very hard and give us time to clear up some injuries. In hindsight, it would’ve been the ideal game to recognise that and put more onus on Field, Stefano and the like to really rip in and shoulder some of the condensed season

so the other 9 games so far this year didn’t matter? We have been the best defensive team of the year to date, pretty good for some fairies!
We had a right side last night who hadn’t played together before in taka, field, Blake and Gennings! Which let in the try off a kick before half time.
Lane was anywhere but Brookvale last night and was at fault for two of the tries, his lazy 4th tackle penalty was the reason for the above try.

The “fairies” of old would’ve ended up conceding 50 points last night. We kept them scoreless in the second half!

I think you’re being pretty harsh to the seasons effort so far

Well he’s only played 1 + 11 = 12 minutes, but watching him in the sheds, on the bench and on the paddock, he has the Feleti Mateos Krisnan Inus about him. Needs an angry face. :rage:

I think I would have rested Matto but played Fergo. They are both key to our attack.
I would rather rest players at home than on the road. I wouldnt rest two key players at the same time unless it was totally necessary and the terminology gave the clear indication that it wasnt completely necessary.
We were coming off a couple of pretty average games.
I am bit worried our confidence will be down. It will be a test of Mahoney and Browns mentality next week.

It’s been a very good effort thus far but I’m not convinced we can match the heavyweights. If you’re convinced that great. I think we have a soft underbelly

It’s probably been said but Reg played 80 mins at full intensity.

NRL.com has him at

28 runs
297 m
47 tackles

He made up for Gower and Steffano who only played 11 minutes each.
I think it was courageous and a difficult situation when we lost Nrown, but poor RCG was knackered and got less effective ... he probably needed a short rest

Is our draw really that favourable?
There are only 5 or 6 teams that will make an impact this year. Us, Storm, Panthers, Roosters, Knights and Raiders.

We have played 4 games against these teams (not the Storm) and lost just the one.
Panthers have played 4 games against these teams (not the Raiders) and have lost 1 and drawn 1.
Roosters have played 4 games against these teams (not the Knights) and lost 3.
Knights have played 4 and have lost 1 and drawn 1.
Storm have played 5 games (incl. Raiders twice) and have lost 2.
Raiders have played 5 games (incl. Storm twice) and have lost 2.

So us, Panthers, Roosters, and Knights have all had a similar draw against the top teams and we have the best results.

Yes it’s very favourable. Not only talking about who we play but where we play. We’ve had the luxury of bankwest all year.

Home ground advantage with no crowds is not an advantage. Cardboard cutouts don't have much influence on the referees.
It is not like 1980 where we get to train there everyday and get used to the place.

Id go so far as saying Gennings was better than Sivo

Sivo shits me to tears when he takes the first hitup after a kick return. He times his runs so poorly, he receives the pass about 8m behind the play the ball.
