99% of the time the guy playing the ball steps forward after playing it. You want a penalty every kick?I don't think the person playing the ball can move forward before the ball is kicked either though.

If he’s not involved in the kick chase, where’s the harm?
It’s the intent of the rule that matters, not the wording. Just ask the refs. They need to rework that rule me thinks.
I agree with your points but it's not what the rule says..

I didn't change the rule.99% of the time the guy playing the ball steps forward after playing it. You want a penalty every kick?
I know but the referee has to ref the game. Every decision has an ‘interpretation’I didn't change the rule.
I suspect if you take a step forward, no one is going to care, but if you start running off then Id say it will be a penaltyI know but the referee has to ref the game. Every decision has an ‘interpretation’
I suspect if you are a chaser of the kick then it will be a penaltyI suspect if you take a step forward, no one is going to care, but if you start running off then Id say it will be a penalty
I think if you run off downfield after playing the ball, then it can be safely assumed you're chasing the kick.I suspect if you are a chaser of the kick then it will be a penalty
Yeo wasn’t a chaser.I think if you run off downfield after playing the ball, then it can be safely assumed you're chasing the kick.
You don't enforce them either.I don't make the rules.
He was running to get out of the play, not to get involved in it. When attacking the tryline the bloke playing the ball needs to get out of the way quickly in case the ball comes back through the ruck and he gets called for an obstruction. He can't just take a step forward or he will interfere with the fullback.I suspect if you take a step forward, no one is going to care, but if you start running off then Id say it will be a penalty

Why does the ref blow a penalty as soon as a player is Infront of the play the ball before it is kicked? How does he know the chaser is going to get involved? Shouldn't he wait and see if the chaser is going to get involved in the play????
If he isn't involved in the kick chase where is the harm???

If he's 30+metres out from the tryline and he starts haring downfield it's obvious what he's trying to do. Maybe not to you but to everyone else anyway. How does he know the chaser is going to get involved?
If he's running toward the man fielding the kick then he is involved in the kick chase. What else would he be doing?Shouldn't he wait and see if the chaser is going to get involved in the play????

It was to prevent teams from getting their kick chase perfectly in position ten metres away from the receiver and limiting the kick return. This way they don't get a twenty metre head start.I think if you run off downfield after playing the ball, then it can be safely assumed you're chasing the kick.
I don't understand the point of the whole rule change. It seems an overreaction to something that wasn't a big impact on the game.
Yeah it's very hard. Hopefully the refs have seen a couple of games of rugby league before going out on the field. How do you differentiate?
It doesn't say anything in the rules...
