The bunker is equally to blame. They should have ruled a knock on, and also told the ref to negate the Henry penalty among other things. To rule a penalty for an offside at the kickoff may be technically correct, but the challenge was for a knock on on the other side of the kick off. Absurd to say the least. I also think that they called the push in the back penalty at the end.

I hope you were being sarcastic as this was his 60th first grade game. He was the referee who called the phantom sin bin against Penrith a couple of years ago!
I wouldn’t say he was biased, but too easily influenced by the crowd and totally incompetent!
He has previously refereed TWO games making this his third game as ref. I would hazard a guess that he was demoted after the 'phantom sin bin' incident that you refer to which would make this his 'come back' (and probably last) game. His bio is below.

Occupation: NRL Fulltime Match Official

First Grade Games: 59 (2 Referee, 57 Touch Judge)

First Grade Debut: Referee - 2019 Round 17 St George Illawarra Dragons v Canberra Raiders, Win Stadium. Touch Judge - 2018 Round 6 Penrith Panthers v Gold Coast Titans, Penrith Stadium

International career: World 9’s Final Australia v New Zealand Touch Judge 2019, 2019 Fiji v Lebanon Test Match Touch Judge, 2017 Women’s World Cup Referee

Achievements: 2020 NRL Grand Final Touch Judge, State of Origin Touch Judge (3 Games 2020), Russell Smith Medal NRL Rookie Referee of Year 2019, 2019 NRL State Championship Referee, 2019 NSW Cup Grand Final Referee

The grind didn't happen with the forwards being outplayed and half the roster looks injured.
The grind did not happen because we kept turning the ball over.Several intercepts and we kept doing it.we are not a flash side we rely on mistake free footy

Todd Smith has definitely been referee for more than two games or I have phantom memories.

Like he's a running joke in the main forum.

Looked like players had one eye on the bye with how they played tbh. They’ll learn and hopefully be better in a fortnight vs Tigers

May has yet to show anything other than being a really strong ball runner.

Which is better on the wing anyway.

According to NRL he has only reffed two, but can NRL stats be trusted? Wouldn't be the first time that NRL has stuffed up...

We are averaging almost 8 penalties per game, we have lost the penalty count in 4 of the 5 games. Last year we averaged 5.1 penalties per game over 27 matches. We are getting sloppy and Clearyball is built on momentum and opponents starting their sets on their own 20.
I don’t think we have the players to match and beat sides that are more disciplined and motivated like we have previously unless we are 100% committed. However we have 1 or 2 games every season like todays hell we used to have a game every week like todays so Sh.t happens. If we don’t get 2 points from the bye we worry.

Not suprised by the loss.

Extremley hard start to the year is over.

Bye hit the refresh hopefully get soro and cleary back and move on.

Was probably one of the most disappointing loses over the last few years. Boys looked to lack hunger and their usual drive.

Only positives really is dyl Edwards. The bloke will go down in top 5 panthers or all time.. big call but i will argue it out. I have him equal with yeo atm..

Its funny how so many wanted critta fb. Were lucky cleary knew what he was doing cos the 3 peat doesnt even go close without this bloke.

It's hard watching a lose but its not to concerning tbh. We looked un panther like today. The hunger wasnt there. The line speed was avg. Even ivan taking yeo off and keaving laurie on.

It all just seemed like the lads were primed for a loss.

Anyway hit the reset. Give the boys a few days off.

Hopefully nath and soro are fit for next game.

Its essential luai and soro get the reps up. Soro been a bit quiet to start the year. As has marto.

And laurie on the bench needs to be changed.. smug will hate it but fact is peach is the beast 14 man at the club.

Anyone who says they saw Edwards as a future Panther great in early 2019 needs to see a doctor for a refresh of their medication.

Go back and read my posts mate.

Quite easy tbh.

I knew back then hed be one of our best. In fact if youd watched him come through the grades youd know.

To many people (most on this forum) see flashy and get star stuck. Critta could do flashy.

I was one way back in the day that actually watched what he did off the ball. What a fb does off the ball is way more important than with.

90% of a fbs job is off the ball. And that 90% takes huge effort.

Dyl would easily be the hardest worker every week.. forget the lame telestra tracker or vb hardest worker or whatever its called. I can guarantee that bloke covers the most meters and highest output week after week.has for years.

Saw him as a future great... yep. Feel free to find my posts. Have said it forever on here.

Dyl edwards is penrith. People froth over yeo and cleary and fish. Truth is dyl is the real mvp. He just doesn't have a shit game.. he just turns up week after week.

If im a sg ball or matts coach i get edwards in once a week.. hes the exact kinda bloke we need moving forward as a fitness coach.

Hes the kinda bloke that would run rings around and embarrass the young fellas as a 40 yo.

To many on here see flashy and think wow.... when in reality whats made penrith what is pemrith isn't the flashy... its the hardwork off the ball. No one and i mean no one, nath and yeo included do hard work like dyl.

Proof you may ask.. watch him without the ball.

I have him already top 5 panthers of all time.

Cleary
Brandy
Gowie
Yeo
Edwards

Anyone that doubted him just didn't actually watch him. They jusy watched the attack and thought yeah he cant pass or kick...

Been going in to bat for dyl for years.

Not biased, do love the bloke but just honest.

That loss was out of character for Penrith.

Discussion about Laurie has been had. But what about our choice of 18th man? We came close to activating it yesterday. It's rarely spoken about because you almost never see them used but it needs some thought.

It could be Peachey's permanent job.
