Lack of competing sets hurt us big time. Only 44% of the ball and 65% completion rate.

Yet we still made more metres (1526 to 1517). Not by much but with less ball (147 runs to 168)

More line breaks 7 to 4. Errors (16 to 10) / penalties (7 to 5) killed us.

defence was horrible, poor attitude!

Not a great night, but more than enough for a new coach to work with next year. Don't think it's all doom and gloom with this squad. Few changes required, but a big roster clean out isn't required.

The hashtag #nrlsouthseels on twitter is overwhelmingly blaming Baz for the loss.

I would have thought that the focus should have been on 70% completions, 31 missed tackles and the noticeable drop in form or effectiveness by some highly paid players.

The blowtorch will be turned to the players.

Some of the current efforts are disgraceful.

The last 3 games we are averaging 40 points against when the other sides haven't had the first choice halfback at all during this whole period.

Last week Melbourne had 3/4 spine out in the 2nd half. Last night souths had 3 halves out, wighton knocked out 5 mins into the second half, Latrell in the bin then moving into the halves.

Our defence atm is a downright disgrace and it's mostly effort and attitude.

i think its also got to do with personnel. granted we didnt have much ball in the first 20 mins but the defensive inability of RCG - Lussik - Paulo - Hopgood and behind them as the last line Talagi was there for all to see. As a group they are just too slow laterally and players with speed and footwork get between them too easy. One of the first things barrett has to do is split these guys up and not have them all defending together. Mix in some other guys that do have that better movement.

given the trajectory of the season it might be a good time to experiment, id go with

RCG
Hands (much quicker in defence than Lussik)
Hopgood (shouldnt affect his style of play too much)
Matterson (matto and cartwright prob defensively atm the best options we have on a edge)
Cartwright
Guymer (more speed and mobility in that middle corridor)

MA (15 mins a game)
Lane (seemed to play decent last night as a middle)
Paulo (short rope)
Doorey (gotta reward good form in NSW cup)

id have gutho back at FB as soon as he is ready and put Talagi back in the No. 1 in Cup.

In all seriousness we lack grit. Our work in defense is diabolical.
Jnr if he can't fix his defense is basically a back up. Mentally we don't have a team with that real.fighting spirit. It's an issue. They want to do the fun stuff but not knuckle down and get dirty.
We may need a bigger overhaul then first thought.

Junior is a huge problem. On massive money, a so called leader who demonstrates no leadership on field , woeful defence, lazy and doesn’t make enough tough carries.

How can you fix the problems when one of the problems is tasked to help fix the mess. If they think just a new coach is going ot change things they are dumber than i thought.
