I would say Australia has .... its an international money spinner these days (well it was until recently, might have got clobbered a little the last year) .... I imagine its similar around the world, tho not sure

you also do every f**kin thing online these days - don't have to bother turning up

researching anything is incredibliy simpler with everything on the internet now

From my experience, I agree with Gary/Pou - its more a test of your commitment and ability to stick with a workload .... though my experience is limited to me and the people I know going through uni

You may get away with that once in a blue moon. Unfortunately, most degrees are 24 or 32 units with several assessments in each one. That's a lot of times to earn a pass just based on a word count.

The test is whether merkins can cope with the boredom and stay in their seat long enough to read all the material. If they can then get that down on paper/screen in enough words they will pass. No question at all. It's up to the judgement of the assessor, and no merkin complains when they pass.

I'm speaking here from my own experience of university. I failed a few subjects and dropped out a couple of times, and it was because i couldn't cope with the tedium, not because the work was too difficult. Years later I got a masters degree, after my brain had slowed down and I became boring enough for university. I certainly didn't become smarter.

Yeah most 1st year subjects are as Pou and Gary say but once the unis have you hooked in it just makes financial sense for them to make it harder.
One of my units had a 40% failure rate. It was f**ken hard and the educators seemed to be actively trying to fail people. Humble brag, I got a credit.
On the flip side, the first unit I did was statistics and it had 100% pass rate (rounded up). Quiz every tute that was based on one, maybe two chapters of the textbook with 2 redos after practically being told what was wrong, a mid term on the first half of topics and final exam on whole unit. All open book. They changed that couple years after I did it and I had mate who did it as one of his final units and struggled to pass

I had the same. A couple of tough subjects that a shitload of people failed. Those that stuck around and did it a second time got through though and 25 years later it means f**k all. They still got their degree.

Others got spooked and ended up doing an arts degree...

But that was because my lecturers didn't give a flying f**k about educating their students.

I had to do a compulsory organic chemistry course which had a 75% fail rate - seeing the lecturers, professors, and tutors not give a shit about helping educate their students turned me right off.

In 2012 I was working for a company which was setting up a system at Sydney Uni. The uni staff weren't too keen on getting this system in as it would mean loss of jobs for them so they kept on throwing spanners in the works.

In the end, Sydney Uni finished the project like 40 million above the initial price. They had so much money, they had a team of QAs sitting their twidding their thumbs without any work for 3 months. A few them quit as they couldn't sit there without work.

I don't know how you think it was ridiculous comment. Sivo's punishment is fair enough he did damage to douiehi and gets a supension for it. If he got straight back up it would have been a sin bin and a fine.

Waqa Blake got sin bin 3 weeks ago against Manly and that looked more reckless i thought and he got a fine mainly because their was no major injury to to victim.

In my line of work, a uni degree is about as prestigious as a school certificate. The next level I did was f**ken balls to the wall. It has less old boys club about it now at least but it was still “oh you got a distinction average through uni, that’s nice…. You’ve failed this test, try again in 12 months.” (Actually I still did well enough to “receive” a supplementary exam to try and pass, and did)

And after all that, if I worked my way up Maccas, I’d be earning just as much as I am now. And then they probably would’ve paid my uni degree
