You have to earn the right to offload and the defence from both sides in the early stages was clearly the focus meaning less chance to offload and more risk if you do. Ivan wasn't the first coach to comment recently about the strength of our forward pack and theirs is up there with us as one of the best in the comp.
I totally agree but it is a balance. We can look at doing it earlier to set some doubts rather than just one outs. I mean, don't go Willie nillie but at least some.

It's like those kicks early. I actually wished we continued with that especially the one where one of our players was tackled near the line on the last

Penrith did this early in the 2nd half and probably had gassed some of our players

Just like our team, talk about a perfect match.
JFC i just went through the NRL gameday thread. Your performance last night was more vicious than a jilted West Tigers supporter. Why do you embarrass us like that ? Go to your room.

If we score 30% of our tries off kicks, that means we score 70% of them some other way.

Tries from kicks24 (30%)
Tries by Sivo15 (19%)
Tries by middle forwards (incl. dummy half)14 (18%)
Tries by spine (exc. dummy half)17 (22%)
Other ways that I cant be bothered working out9 (11%)
TOTAL:79 (100%)

Seems we have a few different and balanced ways to score tries IMHO.

EDIT: I am assuming that Sivo, our middle forwards and our spine aren't scoring directly off kicks. If they are, then of course the "Other" increases accordingly which makes it even more balanced.

51 of those tries were scored against the current Bottom 6 sides (57 against the bottom 7)
15 were scored against teams in the the Top 6.

We score tries, not from kicks, primarily around individual brilliance, not from great team work.

I'm pretty happy, tbh.

It sucks to lose, and our attack needs work - but damn, we were up for a fight last night.

And I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Lussick has been great, but we are badly missing Reed's attacking creativity.

Yep, we're missing him inside those final 10m. Lussick went for a scoot last night and nearly scored but it's the way Reed uses his forwards and he works around them that makes him so good. A crash ball to Paulo is a different play when Reed does it. Those run around plays close to the line as well.

And who did south’s have? Jackson paulo and that other Nuffie that’s now at the dogs. Plus some other no name.
You mean Corey Allen who got picked in Origin? Decent fourth fiddle to Reynolds, Walker and Cook who have all also played Origin.

Tries off kicks are still worth 4 points right?
And if you have the ability to (1) kick to a precise location (2) have the chasers there to pressure the catcher (3) have the skill to get the ball back and score from it, isn't that a valid form of attack?

Or should we just ignore that aspect of the game? Rep selectors always look for halves with a good attacking kicking game, why is that?

The tries off kicks aren’t the actual issue. The tries off kicks to a degree are masking up the the issues. We have no creativity, game plans target the opposition or attacking flare.

Perhaps one team playing each of the bottom 3 teams twice and the other team only once each has contributed to that anomoly at this stage of the season.
And don't forget we've scored a lot of tries from our halfback's kicking game, and those tries are worth zero.

Nathan is the best half in comp. He may of kicked us out of the game field possesion wise.
Sad thing is when play in rnd 25 high chance neither team has anything to play for bar injuries.
And come finals I think we finish 5th. Unsure if we get to see them in finals.
We'll play them in week two after Penrith lose in week one.

It's a worrying sign that 72% of our tries have been scored against teams outside of the Top 8, and 30% of all our tries have come from kicks.

How could I forget his name. I apologize. How did the origin star studded team (south’s) fair against the rookies of Penrith in the preliminary final? So much for having an advantage, aye?

Sigh, ....

Panthers weren't the ones out on their feet.

When.will you realise that it's not always about statistics
Gee, for a team not out on their feet they sure missed a lot of tackles, 44 to 32. It might not be all about statistics but other than video, what evidence do you have other than stats to support your bullshit analysis? Papali'i missed a tackle that led to a try? He missed three tackles all game ffs.

Or maybe our coach has no other style
We know he does, because in 2017 all our attack revolved around getting early ball to Ma'u and Edwards. We only really used our middles for defence. In 2018 it stopped working and we started recruiting middle forwards who can carry the ball. That's when we became the bash and barge team. It certainly works. We scored four tries against both Melbourne and Souths in the finals last year. We just needed to improve our defence.
